Subject: FK Alumni UNtogether It was wonderful seeing Ger and Ben at the Shakespeare Theatre's 'Meet the Cast' Unfortunately it was announced this week that Ben will be stepping down and Hank Stratton will be playing Berowne. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 May 2006 18:28:30 -0700 From: Amanda Berendt <debrabant_foundation@y......> Subject: CERK Site - the grade is in!!! Woo Hoo!!!! I got a 100 on my final project!!!!!! Thank you guys so much for all the help. I am in the midst of reworking my own site, so although I plan to spiff up the CERK site to make it a little more 'fan friendly' instead of 'good for class', I can put it up as is so people can check it out. Amazingly, the store page is a little tempremental (doesn't always send the stuff to me) but, hey.... Let me know what you guys think of the 'as is' idea. Hopefully, by the end of the weekend I can put it up, then when I get the chance I can tweak it. -Amanda "What princes of the moon we'd be, Two blazing beacons in the dark Desire drives me to take him now, No force on earth will ever tear him from my heart." http://www.darksideoftheglass.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 May 2006 21:41:08 -0400 From: Stephanie Kellerman <stequina@i.......> Subject: Re: CERK Site - the grade is in!!! Can't say that I'm new here cause I mostly lurk but this would be my first time posting. Anywhoo, I know that most of you know that Ger played in a movie called Cube 2 along with Kari Matchett (Alyssa). But did you know that Sandi Ross (Grace) had a cameo in Cube Zero and Andrew Miller (Andrew: STF) and Maurice Dean Wint (Frank: Francesca) were in Cube? I'm sure there might have been others too. If any of you haven't seen these movies, they are low budget but pretty good. Have a great Knight! It's common sense that a person who doesn't love himself can't love another. The attention/affection of another would be interpreted as misguided/desperate/weird. Nick is so full of guilt and self hate he pushes Natalie away. And yet in those moments where he accepts himself he pushes her away even more. It's a no win situation. I'm beginning to think that their relationship was doomed from the start, not as much because of his vampiric nature but rather because of the way he doesn't want to inflict himself upon her. 1) How much do you think Nick's self hate influenced the lack of a relationship with Natalie? 2) Did Natalie take the right steps to convince him of his worth? What did she do, exactly? 3) What should she have done in your opinion and how would that have helped? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 May 2006 10:12:04 -0700 From: "David J. Duncan" <dante0220@y......> Subject: Re: Nick's self hate Hi Everyone, In terms of Nick's feelings toward himself, remember he's a creature of his time--the high Middle Ages. He would aspire to the light, not the darkness. There are the double betrayals of his beliefs--in Ireland (his uncle and the bishop)as well as I'm sure the hypocrisies involved within the Crusading movement. Perhaps he feels guilt that he survived imprisonment where so many others died. And then, there is his everlasting torment as a vampire. I don't think he currently (meaning Seasons 2-3) loathes himself. It's the condition he loathes. (I think that Jeanne d'Arc (re: Joan) helped him with the whole faith and self-belief thing.) This is where LaCroix also comes into play. As the paterfamilias, he feels that Nick is a commodity as well as son, companion, friend, slave, whatever. As such, he abuses Nick, reducing him down to 'thing' status. (As in Constantine-flashback: "I don't want a new one. I like THAT ONE!") And this brings up the whole pushing people away. Nick won't allow himself to get too close because: he might hurt them AND/OR the Community (esp. LaCroix) might hurt them. (See the nun, the ballerina, Alyce Hunter, the Harp woman) Natalie, to her credit, stood against LC in pumping up Nick's ego and self-esteem. Those were some of my favorite moments in the series. But even she experimented on Nick once too often, saying that 'I know what's good for you even if you don't care'. In the end, she should have let it drop, telling Nick 'that's it--you want a relationship, fine. I'll take you as you are. But I can't do it.' And I think ultimately, as we saw in the series, even if people offer someone all the help in the world, s/he has to want to take it before it becomes effective. Just a few ramblings... There's a difference. There may be times that he thinks he hates himself, but I've always gotten the impression he hates what he is because he hates what he's capable of doing (as well as what he's done in the past). --Libs ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 May 2006 14:40:01 -0400 From: Deborah Hymon <debh@e.......> Subject: Re: Nick's self hate I have to agree with Libs on this. I never got the impression Nick hated himself, but always felt he hated 'the beast' and the lack to control it at times, and what the vampire was capable of. He hated his past, and felt sorrow for the lives he'd taken, and hated the evil of the vampire. I always felt Nick the man was a giving and caring man, but the vampire, the beast, was evil. I always loved the scenes where Nick, the man, fought for control over the vampire.
