I'm looking for theone where Nick is accused of beating up (a suspect?)
because they were gay. At the trial Nick says that LaCroix is his 'partner'
in order to show that he would have no reason to be homophobic. Does anyone

That story concerns a young man who is murdered for being gay, but
other than that does not fit the description of the story you're
looking for.
But don't let that stop you from reading it, because it is a very,
very good story.
