KtK Caption Contest and Poll update ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2006 17:35:04 -0500 From: Sierra Mayberry <bluefaerymagick@a.......> Subject: KtK post typo, latter=former lol Wow, before jumping all over something you might wanna ask yourself was it a typo. I edited the post before sending, and i meant 'former' not 'latter'. In other words i meant dairy was cool, and slaughtering the cow was tasteless. So that's good it was for dairy etc. Quote: "Heifer International is a WELL KNOWN, international help and aid organization that believes you can give a man food to eat today, or you can give a man the means to raise his own food and he'll eat for a lifetime! Excuse me, but it is HARDLY in "poor taste" to give a starving person anywhere in the world a cow from which milk will provide nutrition and whose offspring will continue this food source." Next: in reply to the writing e-mails message, i didn't mean people were too busy to send an e-mail about FK on dvd. i said in the e-mail that people get busy and get behind on the digests. Meaning they don't know about the e-mail request until it's too late. I'm often about a month behind on the digests. ~Sierra ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2006 18:36:02 -0500 From: Bonnie Rutledge <llamababe@c.......> Subject: Re: Raising $$$ to Promote FK--Re: KtK poll comments LaNancy quoted from the KtK website: <snip>The most recent beneficiary was Heifer International, a charity devoted to giving needy people around the world animals with which they can earn a living. <snip> Heifer International is a charity I've donated to personally, providing llamas, honeybees and chickens to areas of the world (including the US) that are struggling economically. Susan Sarandon is one of their celebrity sponsors. The organization's mission is of the "Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime" philosophy. Whoever was worried about the gift of a cow, this was not auctioning off a steak meal. It was auctioning the education and supplies for an impoverished family to become dairy farmers. The end goal of Heifer International is to reduce world hunger by providing people in need with, not a meal, but long-term solutions toward generating sustainable food sources. It's like getting Nick on a protein shake regimen where he doesn't make faces! Now, he wants to be mortal again, to repay cattle for his sins, to emerge from his world of lactose-intolerance, from his endless Forever Dairy.” Sorry-someone had to say it! KC ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2006 17:15:07 -0800 From: Libby Singleton <libratsie@s.......> Subject: the history of FK charity The newer fans on the list may not be aware of the very long tradition Forever Knight fans have concerning charity. I can only start with Bridging the Knight charity auction as I joined the lists shortly before that. I've forgotten how much the auction raised, but it was an unbelievable amount for the limited number of fans who were allowed to attend (they'd preset a number of attendees). It was in the 10s of thousands. Part of the money went to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the rest went to a Pediatric AIDS clinic in Canada. I recall seeing a thank you posted from the AIDS clinic saying how we'd literally stopped them from being forced to close their doors. There have also been numerous blood drives, not to mention individual FK clubs' auctions to raise money for their actor's charities. We've also helped out our own. There was an urgent plea years ago asking if anyone would be willing to help a badly abused woman escape from her abusive husband. Of course no name was given, but I heard through the grapevine that the woman was shortly thereafter safe and sound. There was a woman in Florida who lost her entire house in a wildfire. All she had to her name was what happened to be in her car. We held a sort of on-line shower and were so generous that she finally asked us to please stop<g> We've found a fan who was missing and a suicidal risk. When my ex left me pretty much without warning, it was a listmember who called me as soon as she heard and stayed on the phone with me until a real life friend arrived at my house (by chance, also a fan). I kept insisting it was the happiest day of my life, but she stayed on the phone anyway! <g> We have support groups (lists) such as Rainbow-Knights for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and trangendered people (and friends), and once even had an FK weight-loss list! We've cheered up at least one of the actors following major surgery. We've supported the actors and others associated with the show in their more recent projects. If I'm not mistaken, we've even "bribed" the Sci Fi Channel receptionist with chocolate after realizing how many calls and letters from us she was having to handle. (I could be wrong about who received the chocolate but I do remember us sending it) On the fannish side (well, the chocolate was that), we've run beautiful advertisements in major media publications, driven TPTB crazy with requests for videos and now DVDs. We can do both, and we should. We are not a fandom that sits back and watches life happen, like our favorite television characters, we make things happen (whether we intend to or not<g>) --Libs Libratsie@s....... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2006 23:58:52 +0930 From: Dorothy <jennii35@i.......> Subject: Story Parts Hi all, Can somebody help me please. So looks like the ad is the strong leader!! lets keep the votes coming in!
