Subject: Question for writers on the list

How many of you are also also writing non-fanfic work
and either
A) Are published
B) Intend to try to become published

If A, where are you published? (I'm interested in
books and articles that aren't academic or
industry-specific i.e. a scientific research paper for
the NEJM)

If B, do you have an agent or have you submitted to
publishers?

I'm writing an article on becoming published which is
why I ask. Please reply off list unless you want
everyone to know :)

It all depends why he is being investigated. Is it to do with his cover
story, or something like that? Because, if so, then it would indeed be
Internal Affairs.

However, a police-related death or serious injury (e.g. in a shooting, or an
accident during a car chase) would be investigated by SIU, ie. the Special
Investigations Unit. About which you can learn more at
http://www.siu.on.ca/home.asp.

Hi Y'all!

I think it must've been all the smoke from the birthday candles for the
first four days of December obscuring things on the birthday list.
That's MY story anyway and I'm stickin' to it. <G> I need to make a
slight correction about the last two birthdays I announced.

Cloud's (clouddancer@c....... ) birthday is REALLY December 5 and Robin
Tidwell's (robinchristine79@a....... ) birthday is REALLY December 6. But
I'm sure if you just keep on sending those birthday wishes they won't
mind this little mix-up.

Let's see if I can get the rest of this year's birthdays right!

Well, he supposedly coerced a confession and the guy filed a complaint,
I now have to find out if this is SIU territory or not. Anyway, thanks
to everyone who wrote, your help is appreciated. :-)

Subject: Re: Question for writers on the list

Published is a term that has many variations. There is unprofessionally
published and professionally published.

For example, I've been fortunate to have had several short stories published at
Bewildering Stories (bewilderingstories.com) that are considered non
professionally published as I was not paid for them -- however they do count as
a publishing credit.

I've placed two writing contests which resulted in short stories being
published. One, at Descending Darkness (descendingdarkness1.com) was a magazine
subscription while the other at the review where I won first place was a
monetary prize which counts as a professional publication even though it was
online and not printed.

Where you get into the issue is in contests such as L. Ron Hubbard Writers of
the Future where it is designed for those who have had minimal or no
professional publication.

There is self publication as well, however there you will find how many copies
are printed is what constitutes a professional publication in some areas.

Sometimes it's the noprofessional publication that can get your "foot" in the
door to the professional version or opportunities 8)

In the end it is lots of fun to try and try again.

With my Tales of the Weird Wild West, I intend to have them published
professionally as either a book of short stories or a complete story of the
melded shorts.

being a kid, I always thought he was secretly referring to the

He was only on a year or two.
I know I'm dating myself but I also remember Rick on GH. He played the young
brother of a Doc on GH that was in love with Monica. Later in the show Rick
went off to do missionary work, Monica later married Alan Quatermane when she
couldn't get Noah's older brother . {Noah's OLder brother later married
Laura's {Spencer]mother, her last name was Weber but I can't remember her first
name.

Boy is that going back in time....like 1963 to 1968.

I'm getting old because I can't remember all the characters names. Nurse
Jessie was Emily McLuaghlin. Who was always 'eyeing' Doc Steve Hardy. But she
never married him.

I guess Rick's part was practice leading up to his FK role. {Just to stay on
topic.}

I believe it was earlier than that. Luke and Laura married in 1981. He was
already off the show by that time.

I have a pocket book that dates back to the first years of GH. When I get
back to NY I'll look it up.

I started watching GH in Feb 1963 when it first started. And now thinking
about it I seem to remember Noah being married a short time to Monica before
she met Quartermane.

  :-)
I really don't consider Forever Knight to be scifi... although without
the reruns on SciFi Channel I wouldn't have gotten reintroduced to the
show years ago.
I like how FK used the Canadian setting and cast. They didn't try to
pretend it was LA or NY. I think it added an interesting dimension to
the show.

Similarly, I'd like to see some true scifi program where the "bold
explorers" were from Toronoto, YellowKnife, Montreal....instead of
endlessly from the US.

Me thinks that folks have gotten a character name or two confused from
the soap opera.
Rick Springfield is not "that" old.
He was in the original BattleStar Galactica pilot in 1978/79? and the
original Nick Night dates from the early 1980s. At those times... he
was in his late twenties or early thirties by appearance. Definitely
too young to have played any character aside an infant in the 1960s.

Rick played DR Noah Drake in the early 80s. I never really watched it but my
aunt and cousins did. So I aways had the scoop on what was going on, that and
Days of out lives.

Well, last time I saw him he still looked pretty good so maybe he is much
more noctural these days. ~.^

Your point is well taken. Let me rephrase my question.
By "published" I mean that someone, either a
legitimate magazine, newspaper, book publisher (e-pub
or publishing house), or anyone else has paid you for
your work, or you have entered a contest and your work
has been made public in some form or another.

I wasn't gonna post this, but then decided to cause i thought ya'll might find
this interesting. i noticed something when watching my 2nd season dvds.

The 2nd season is in production order on the dvds. But that isn't the order
they were finished in. In production order, "The Code" was done after "Close
Call". But in "Close Call", Schanke remembers saying to Nick, "You know
how sometimes you get so full of one life, you want another?" Well, that's a
quote from "The Code."

This is from "Who's who in Port Charles" (that's where General Hospital is
set for those who don't know ) Who's Who in Port Charles | Noah Drake | General
Hospital @ soapcentral.com

Noah Drake arrived at General Hospital and quickly developed a reputation of
being a playboy doctor. Young, handsome, successful and charming were just a
few of his attributes that attracted the women of Port Charles including nurse,
Bobbie Spencer. Having just gotten over the death of her fianc=E9, Roy DiLucca.
Frustrated by Noah's inability to tell her that he loved her, Bobbie took
desperate measures to keep Noah. She faked blindness in an effort to gain his
affection. Unfortunately, in the end, the lie spelled the end of their
relationship. On the rebound from his failed relationship with Bobbie, Noah
took an interest in sexy Tiffany Hill. When Bobbie returned to work, Tiffany
was the only one not happy to see her back at General Hospital. She had good
reason to worry about Bobbie. Bobbie and Noah briefly reconciled. After their
relationship ended for a final time, Noah tried to seduce Tiffany. Tiffany and
Noah started to make love but at the last moment, Tiffany pulled away.

Noah left town when he was offered a new surgical position
