Question.

In the Vampire Chronicles, the senior vampire is called the "maker" and the one
they bring across is the "fledgling."

In things like the White Wolf games, the senior vampire is the "sire" (either
male or female) and the brought across one is called a "childe" or "kinder".

What are these roles called in FK? I know something like LaCroix to Nick is
"sire" but what about Janette to one of hers?

Just curious.

I know that Nick refers to Lacroix as his master and Lacroix calls Nick his
son/ Janette daughter.
I'm not sure if Nick calls Divia Lacroix's master in AtA, I could be wrong, but
Lacroix definitely says that he never told Nick who his MASTER is: he uses the
male form of the word, maybe because the female 'mistress' has a different
connotation and does not capture the meaning correctly ( nevermind evoking
certain mental pictures, lol).
So I think Master refers to both sexes.
As to Sire, I personally use it in my fic but only in regard to male vampires
because I (personally) think it sounds stupid to use such an overtly male form
with a female character. But words that once denoted gender can become neutral,
e.g. 'actor' is now used by both males and females.

I apologize if this isn't allowed.

I recently decided it is time to part with one of my prized Forever Knight
items. Considering I had to challenge a (Canadian) 1228 bid to win this, it was
a difficult decision to make.

Again, if I'm out of place with this post, I apologize.

As I recall, when Nick explains his relationship to LaCroix, he calls him his
"master". The use of the term "sire" is something I've seen in fanfic, but
don't remember ever hearing used in the show. LaCroix referred to Nick as his
"child, his creation." Nick once told Janette they were both the "children of
LaCroix" but I don't think he ever directly named his relationship to her.

As a fiction writer in primarily the vampire genre,
I've done a lot of research on verbage, and the terms
you reference are all "standard" for vampire fiction
in general, but I believe that Nick refers to LC as
his "master" and "maker". I believe that the terms
would apply to any vampires brought across by any
other vampire.

I just faxed Sony out in LA and asked them directly. I will let you
know what they say, but continue the letter writing, it may help.

BTW, I have never seen the word 'kinder' used in any fiction. Is it used
like this in the singular as well? Since it is, of course, the German
*plural* word for children
(child = kind)
