Nothing sinister or bizarre about it - the Sony contract with Berkley was 
for three books.  Since the series was cancelled as the books were being 
processed, it was decided not to renew the contract.

The books sold well enough and I know for certain that none of mine were 
remainered, which meant they were all sold at regular price and that they 
weren't lot-sold as bargain books.  The original print run for my book was 
30,000 copies and it was extended for another 5,000 and my book sold well 
enough for the third book to have an increased initial print run.

Why don't they write another contract?  Well, frankly, because the money 
just isn't there.  The only reason a company will do TV tie-in books right 
now is if they have an on-air show that does the marketing for them, and 
thus reduces that cost.  So that even if Sony decided they wanted to 
license a second set of books, you'd then have to find a publisher willing 
to take the contract.

Also, little known fact but some of the highlights of the industry were 
approached to do FK books - people famous for their own vampire series - 
and they generally turned them down because the pay was too low for a piece 
of published material that the author couldn't own (the project was 
work-for-hire).

If the vampire cycle kicks up again and vampires become a hot marketplace 
item again . . . yeah, it's possible we could see a publisher show interest 
in doing another set of FK books, if they could get a cheap contract from Sony.

You think they would have made oodles of money on audiobook format if they
had Nigel or Ger do the reading.  <weg>

I was just cruising ebay and found that one of my all-time favorite 
fanzines, "Lizards in the Grass" is being auctioned.  This fairly rare 
zine was written during the first season of FK. It's very well written 
and I recommend it highly.

I don't know the person auctioning the zine, I just really like this 
zine! If you want a pretty good read, you might want to go bid on it.

O.K., after being fed images like these, and whatever the fic challenge may 
produce; how are any of us going to be able to keep such thoughts at bay 
while watching the play?  Who's going to provide band-aids to cover the 
wounds caused by knuckle-biting to prevent inappropriate laughter during the
