It sounds strange to us because people now don't generally eat fish-gut
sauce. Since he grew up with it, unless he was one of those people who eats
everything plain, he probably would've liked it. What I wanna know is, why
were they putting it on a peach dessert O_o ? They also put honey on
celery, so I guess their use of fruits and veggies was a bit different than
we're used to.
Did using salty fish-gut sauce on all his food better prepare him for a
steady diet of salty human blood?

If you check modern recipes, you will often find that a little bit of
salt or even vinegar is added to sweet dishes (and we're talking just a
hint), as it enhances the flavor of the dish. Fresh strawberries with
green pepper come to mind, or a Roman fav: melon with black pepper
(which tastes delicious). So they put a hint of fish sauce (BTW the
expensive one isn't even brown but a clear liquid) into their desserts.
It's not like they splattered everything with it , they just added a few
drops.
And those of you who feel inclined to try a recipe but find the thought
of fish sauce strange - replace it with salt.

Note to Nancy K. : We might put up the Roman /medieval recipes again
that we did for the Crusader somewhile back

Another thing to remember in regards this very pungent fish sauce, strong
sauces were often used to cover up the fact that food was not quite fresh.
Nothing like a little garum to disguise that almost-rotten meat. <g>

Another treat that LaCroix may have enjoyed (and if not him, then Divia to be
sure) was honey mixed into snow as a sort of an ice cream. Now that one sounds
good!

One of my friends bought a small house as an
investment property last year, and it turns out the
renter was growing marijuana in the house, and is now
in jail. BUT, one of the things he left behind, which
my friend may need to dispose of in the driveway is a
1960's something Cadillac convertible. I told him I
might be interested ;)

Is there a protocol for posting fanfic challenges? If it's not allowed,
where could I send it? I don't see it addressed in either set of rules,
which is why I'm asking. Thanks in advance.

Normally, you just post it to FKFIC-L and *you* issue the challenge by writing
the first story. In other words:

CHALLENGE: Name of story

(then in text of message)

Note: I'm issuing a challenge for stories that prove Screed is a stud muffin.
As is traditional, here is the first story of the challenge.

Libby's right. You just issue the challenge and it is customary to write the
first story yourself. A plain challenge would go to Forkni-l. When you post your
story in the challenge, if there is one, then it goes to Fkfic-l and that
starts the challenge.
