Here's the deal: over Passover, I was walking with my friend past
several houses and buildings in our neighborhood that are doing
some kind of renovation, which she attributes to the existence of
the Home Depot that opened a few blocks from me a couple of years
ago. I mentioned that it's one of the few that's open 24/7, and
said, "who needs a 24-hour Home Depot? Vampire contractors?"
Thus was born the baby plot bunny that I must give up for
adoption because I have too many works in progress and may never
finish all of them as it is. Somebody give it a good home.

The absolute best take I've seen on this, fanfic-wise, is Dorothy
Elggren's series "All The Rest Is Silence"---available on her website,
www.loftworks.com.

Read it! Read it right now! These three stories are absolutely
wonderful.

You never know when the shutters on the windows are
gonna break.

This is something I have wondered about myself. When
I was in North Hollywood for a convention there was a
24/7 Home Depot about 3 blocks away from Paramount
Studios. Its need I think, was self expanatory.

<shameless self-promotion>

I wrote a story which featured a vampire contractor crew fixed Nick's
broken motorized shutters. See "Good Help is Hard To Find" by me. :-)

This reminds me of a story I read years ago where Nick chartered a small
plane from a vampire run flight service in order to pick up a prisoner
along with Schanke somewhere in the Canadian countryside.

And then there was a Vampire run courier service that delivered some items
that Natalie forgot to take along with her when she was going out of town
to a seminar where she was going to be speaking.

I think these were in two seperate pieces of fanfic. However, I'm sure
there must be other instances of vampire run businesses (besides the Raven).

Nunkies Anonymous has employed a vampire contracting company in two
different Wars now for renovations/rebuilding of the Shrine. It's a pain
having to hear hammers and saws at night, but on the upside, they DO work
quickly. <BG>

Well I have two...
First, last night I was watching 'House' on tv and one of the guest actors was
the lady who played Joan (and the cop that gave Schanke the ticket for parking
the caddy in front of the Raven in Close Call) was on. I said to my dad that
she was one of the 42 Canadian actors. She's been in a couple of Due South eps
too.

Second, last night while I was watching tv, our big huge kitten (13 pounds at
10 months) was running all over the place. He wound up jumping onto my shoulder
then onto the back of the couch. In the process, his claws snagged my neck.
This produced 2 little holes that began to bleed. Now because it is right at my
collar line, I have a bandaid on my neck to keep my shirt from rubbing, people
keep asking if a vampire attacked me. :)

I was reading a fic today and in it LC tells another character he
would make a good vampire. For some reason this struck me as odd. It
made me think, would LC refer to himself as a "Vampire."

For the life of me, I can't specifically remember his referring to
himself or the others directly as vampires. Yes, it's fine is someone
else describes them that way, ie Schanke in Close Call. But when he's
talking about them or "thier nature" it's always euphemistic, like "our
kind" or, "one of us." Something like that.

Logic tells me he must have at some point, but I don't recall it. Can
anyone else remember anywhere where LC specifically used "vampire" to
describe himself or the others?

Think you could give titles and authors (perhaps locations as well)? I'd
like to read these stories.
