I don't disagree with you about having those feelings, probably quite normal.
But, after re-reading your post a couple of times, one word popped into my
head...Shakespeare! <G>.

I was cruising ebay debating on whether or not to buy a piece of sheet music.
I finally decided to add it all up to see final cost. Item, insurance, and
shipping. It came to $12.28. This had to be a sign. I bought it.

As for introducing FK to someone knowing what happens to some of the
characters, it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I've introduced many
characters to FK through 'Fever' in which my favorite character dies.

Characters die in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, yet I also haven't
hesitated to introduce people to those series. Angel even ended in a sort of
cliffhanger.

I don't mind shows that end tragically. Not every show is going to end with
fluffy bunnies and shiny, happy people forever more, and I think it's better
that way- Hamlet wouldn't be anywhere what it is, if he ended up growing a
couple, killing his uncle, claiming his throne, forgiving his mother, marrying
Ophelia, and going on a three-day, male bonding royal pisser with Rosencrantz
and Gilderstein.

Am I upset that some of my favorite shows have this kind of ending? A bit,
but it's better to go out on a great sad ending, than going out with some
smarmy, vapid hippity-happity ending. Sometimes you can even have both- look
at the Little Mermaid (the real one).

I think that Nick got confused at the end, and mixed up redemption with
mortality. But that's his old school Crusader Catholicism kicking in (which I
think really explains a lot about what he's doing).

It's not the greatest show- some of it was fairly cheesy. But it definitely
was the precursor to a lot of horror/scifi/fantasy shows that sprouted in the
90s (things like Brimstone).

I disagree. True, a happy ending would have been totally out of character as to
where the show seem to be heading, but wasn't the whole idea was for Nick to
regain his humanity and mortal life?
To not be a vampire?
Yes a truly happy ending would have meant: the end. But as we have seen, the
other ending has spawned countless other endings from fans and no doubt an happy
ending would have too.

As to leaving it open for a possible return, nothing has happened in the last
ten years to make that happen yet.

When I went to Best buy to see about something, I went to the DVD's to see if
they had the second season of FK. They did and I decided to buy it as I didn't
have it yet. The sales clerk who helped me, hadn't even heard about the show. I
encouraged her to watch it and explained that it was an excellent show. I
haven't been back to see if she followed my advice or not.

I hope she did.

I used a different program for the comics than I usually do, I think I'll go
back to the orginal. But still fun... just not as purty ;-)

Amen to that! Let's face it, no matter HOW they ended it, a bunch of fans
would have been upset because they didn't like the ending. The ending is what
the ending is, love it, hate it, or like me - rather enjoyed it but see its
flaws. The rest is for fan fic<g>

Subject: Episode Twenty-two linked in

As it says: Episode Twenty-two has now been linked in. And (alas)
that means that Season IV is at an end. Following the pattern of
Seasons I and III in the real Forever Knight, it only has just these
twenty-two episodes.

For those tuning in late, the url for the site is
http://ca.geocities.com/gwatson2@rogers.com/index.html
Click through to the episode guide. The links for the individual
episodes are the numbers. This will take you through the ratings page
for the episode to its homepage, from which you can download it as a
zip file. Your choice of WordPerfect or Microsoft Word. From the
homepage, you can also click on the Notes page for that episode; but
(spoiler warning!!) I strongly recommend that you read the episode
before you read its notes.

Some have asked already; but for those who don't know: there is good
news, and there is bad news. Yes, barring unforeseen catastrophes,
there will be a Season V. But it won't be starting in September 2005.
Some September, some few years from now (at least two or three),
there will be a Season V premiere, followed weekly by new episodes
until May of the following year.
But, until that time, you are going to have to wait. As those of
you who have been reading the notes to the Season IV episodes know, I
did not write them in order. Instead, they were done as the
inspiration struck; and I later went back and tied them more tightly
together with additional continuity. For Season V, the continuity is
even tighter; but the method of writing is the same. This means that
I cannot, as some writers of long multi-part stories do, post the
finished stuff on my website and leave you dangling for the rest.
Nothing is truly finished in Season V -- nothing *can* be truly
finished -- until the whole season has been written, because it will
then have to be revised as a complete entity. That is the only way to
guarantee that the continuity works without the sort of glitches that
we are all so familiar with from real TV when it strives for
continuity. (Consider all the nits that can be picked in B5 and BTVS.)
I *can* say that, as of this moment, I have twelve episodes
written for Season V. But, obviously, that means that it is only just
past the halfway mark.

Never. Just like in real life, what starts out on a hopeful note can
easily turn to tragedy. Does this turn make the show any less
engrossing? Does the fact that Romeo and Juliet end up dead make that
play less worth going to? I think not.

I thought LK was the proper way to end the series, and much more
dramatically satisfying than Nick and Nat walking off together into
the sunrise. The sad ending felt inevitable, and it would have been
cheesy for a last-minute reprieve to be handed to the characters by
the writers.

Besides, would you *really* have wanted to miss Lacroix's "Life is a
peach" speech? <g>

I will forever have a problem with the ending because
that is what it is... the end. I agree in hindsight
that the show couldn't have ended any other way due to
the road season 3 had been travelling (come on, they
killed off 2 characters at the start: that has to be
seen as a sign :P) but as bizarre as it sounds, I half
wonder if we would be as fond of the show or its
characters if it had ended on a more neutral or
positive air. The fact he didn't get what he wanted
and accepted another escape from his torment endears
Nick to us there. The fact that Lacroix, who had been
so "evil" in the past, would aid Nick in his plea for
mercy endears Lacroix. Nat and Tracy both died after
offering support... well I guess you see where I'm
heading with this. Humanity is affected by loss and
grief and good old fashioned love stories, we have a
great empathy for those in pain and LK accumilates all
the loss and pain (and love) that these characters
have played out.

I've been getting a few of my friends here to watch
episodes with me and while I do seem to spend half the
time explaining the relationships between the
characters, they seem to enjoy them... but you wanna
know the twisted part - if I had the last few eps of
season three, I could probably make them as FK crazy
as the rest of us LOL

Ok enough ranting... must acquire morning caffeine

I didn't expect Nick and Nat would ever be able to properly get
together, no, but there's a long way between unrequited love and everyone
dying. They could've ended with Nick feeling it was time to move on, so he
and Nat might have to go their separate ways, which would've been sad, but
not tragic. . . or he could've moved on and she decided to uproot and go
with him. Or if they wanted to leave everyone in the same place all
together, they could've just left it open-ended, so you get the idea
everything is going on just as normal after the show is over. Maybe they
could've ended it with Tracy finding out Nick's a vamp and being all right
with it, so you feel like they're still working cases together, just with a
new understanding. But I dunno, those "happy endings" might've seemed a
little cheesy in a show like this. Maybe they tested their options and
decided the "Shakespearean tragedy" route worked best, or stayed truer to
the tone of the series?

I am at work and don't have access to my FK info and stuff at home, so I am not
sure of my source right now.... pretty sure it is the original script, but
don't quote me.

I think the original ending was to have a voice over (maybe by LC) quoting the
last lines of Romeo and Juliet as the sun set at the end of the ep. So it
seems that the final episode, as originally written, was supposed to be a
Shakespearian tragedy.
I know they did change it last minute to make it more ambiguous for
syndication.

I wholeheartedly agree. I knew some (not all) season 1 and 2 eps when FK
first ran here in Germany, but it *was* 'Last Knight' that got me hooked
in 2001. Okay , I have always been a sucker for tragic love stories and
heroes who suffer, that might explain it.
The only thing I don't like about LK is simply that it was the end, not
the way it actually ended.

As to the "FK- The Next Generation" thing: I wouldn't mind other actors
as long as they kept the 'spirit' of FK, which for me means that they
*don't* do it like Underworld, Blade, Van Helsing and Co (too much gore,
too little plot, IMO).
