I had heard that someone was going to compile them also and put them on
a web site. I haven't seen any post to the effect that they have done
so. I did compile them and put them on a page just in case so we
wouldn't lose them. I just uploaded the page.

I going to be sitting in on another Medieval History
class at San Francisco State University. Last night
was the first meeting of "The Black Death". Its going
to be a great semester. Even though we will be
consentrating on the earlier epidemic, I'm sure I will
be having flashback to the episode "Fever".

Here is the description of the class:

Spring 2005 - Graduate Seminar
HIS 710 - The Black Death

In the winter of 1347 a deadly epidemic reached
Europe's Mediterranean posts and quickly spread
inland. Two years later, the disease, known to later
generations as the Black Death, had killed about 40%
of Europe's population and shaken Medieval European
society to its very core. The Black Death, moreover,
occurred as Europe was experiencing what may very well
have been the most calamitous century in its long and
turbulent history. The disease hit Europe during the
opening phase of the Hundred Years' War; a mere two
decades after the Great Famine which had killed 3
million people in seven years; in the midst of the
worst crisis the Medieval Church ever suffered; and
just a few years before Europe's peasant population
began going into bloody revolts. This was a society
in crisis. This course aims to understand the causes,
immediate impact, and long-term consequences of this
catastrophe and to appreciate how a highly developed
society deals with extreme crisis.

And we mustn't forget that our guys have the ability to learn something much
faster than the ordinary mortal. All Lacroix needs to do is to drain an expert
and acquire the knowledge for himself through the blood.

Was it established in the series that a vampire can
actually retain what is experienced from the blood? Or
is this something that was established/accepted in
fanfic?

I forget the episode, but they do pick up things like playing in instrument
from their meals. However, didn't the same episode indicate such skills also
faded fairly quickly? Of course may things like simply turning on a computer or
using a mouse might be retained whereas playing in instrument, which can be
fairly complicated, might not be.

That episode is 3rd season's Francesca. She kills the violinist and
gives Nick his blood, then tells him that he can now play the violin as well.
Nick objects because "it will last maybe two hours, no more, then it
will be gone.

I agree that our vamps can acquire knowledge and feelings through blood
(watch Nick's lines again when he tells Nat what it's like to drink
blood - this is such a killer scene :-)
but complex skills have to be trained and perfected.

Doris.

What about Fever, when LC drained the AIDS expert who created the disease in
the first place--he didn't have any helpful insights into the Fever, but Nat did.

I don't think the expert had any clue what effect the virus had on
vampires - how could he? So there would have been no answers coming from
him.
And I don't think Lacroix was looking for answers - he wanted revenge.
Besides Francesca was near the end of the series, allthe stuff with
acquiring knowledge wasn't established until that point.
And the rest is fan fiction.

**And I don't think Lacroix was looking for answers - he wanted revenge.**

LaCroix was also very sick at the time he ate the AIDs patient/virus creator
(although he would deny it<g>). Having had a horrible cold this week, I know how
hard it is to "digest" information even on things you know a lot about when you
are sick.

It also could be that a vampire has to concentrate on the "flavor" to pick up
skills from their victims/meals. LaCroix was, as state, eating him for revenge
and probably not taking time to truly enjoy the flavor.

I hope he didn't get indigestion. <wRPg>

have all of them saved in a file. If anyone is interested in receiving them,
just let me know. I know I need to put them up on a site, but have not
exactly made the time to do so yet. A HUGE thanks goes out to Steph for compiling
