Hi All,
I saw on CNN that the charity called Covenant House just shut down...
wasn't Covenant House one of John Kapelos' pet charities?

I googled this--only the Costa Rica office was closed, it continues to operate
in other countries, advocating for children's rights and denouncing sexual abuse
of minors. There are no news stories to suggest that Covenant House in Toronto,
which is Canada's largest youth shelter, has been closed.

Your humble & obedient servant,

This message is going out to all subscribers so we can be sure everyone knows
that FK War XII starts tomorrow, Nov. 8th, on Fkfic-l and ends of the 23rd.

Please note: the war is played on Fkfic-l. If you need to subscribe, send a
message to "listserv@lists.psu.edu." Don't put quotes around the address and don't
put a period at the end. You can't send a message to the listserv by replying
to this message. You must originate the mail. In the body of the message, put
the command "subscribe fkfic-l firstname lastname" -- don't use the quotes, and
put your first and last name, or a two-word alias, in place of firstname
lastname.

1. Digest: if you are on digest, you will get all posts, including the ones
with the war: topic. The only way to avoid this is to go off digest. There are two
ways to do this.

1.a To go off digest but receive the war, send a message like I just
explained. the command is "set fkfic-l mail" -- don't quotation marks. If you
want the war posts, follow the instructions below.

1.b. To go off digest and receive no mail from Fkfic-l until you start the
digest again, send the message with the command "set fkfic-l nomail" -- don't
use quotations marks.

2. To be sure you get the war, do the following: send the message as
instructed above. The command is "set fkfic-l topics:+war" -- don't use quotation
marks. This command must be exactly as I've typed it. Use cut and paste if
possible.

3. To be sure you don't get the war: send the message as instructed above,
with the command "set fkfic-l:topics-war" = don't use quotation marks. Cut and
paste if possible.

PLEASE NOTE: If the command you sent is already in effect, you will receive a
listserv message which will tell you this.

The procedures are the same for Forkni-l. Just put that name instead of
fkfic-l.

I can set these options for you, but I may not be able to do it before the war
starts, or quickly. Real life and my job have a way of taking precedence. :)
