FK stayed with most of the myths but they added a few of there on to add
interest in the community they were building around the vampires.

Subject: Re: Favourite Top 10 Episodes of the Series

Well, *I* like Season Three. I'd put several on my favourites list,
along with a number of Season Two episodes. I'd say the weakest was
Season One: too many of the stories were routine cop shows with a
vampire twist, rather than a creative blend. Anyway, I'm not so keen on
the whole "Top Ten" concept. Either you're trying really hard to shave
off good episodes to get the list down to the requisite number; or else
you're padding it with kind-of-okay ones to top it up to the mark.
(With FK, of course, it's shaving down.)
So my list has more than ten. In no especial order of merit:

Season One:
    "Dark Knight" (1 & 2) There's no point in splitting up a
two-parter. A good start, with a smashing finish.
"Dying for Fame" I like the way the "music videos" were done in
lieu of an historical plot: a refreshing alternative. (I also liked the
music.) And the parallel with Nick, though obvious, was not pushed too
hard.
"Feeding the Beast" Now, please explain to me why Nick never
followed up on the 12-step plan? Oh, right - no continuity. But this
is one of the few real vampire-oriented stories in Season One.

Season Two:
(Oh, how to pick!)
"A Fate Worse Than Death" Nice to learn about Janette's past.
"Stranger than Fiction" I'm not so sure about the pseudo-science
that helped Natalie pinpoint the murderer as human; but I love Janette's
reaction to having to play bodyguard.
"Baby, Baby" Probably the most technically perfect episode in the
series, from a writer's perspective. And the irony of Nick being in
LaCroix's position vis-a-vis Serena! Not to mention that scene atop the
CN Tower: really powerful.
"Close Call" Perverse picking a clip show, I know. But the
notion that Schanke would finally suspect the truth is priceless; and I
thoroughly enjoyed LaCroix's skillful handling of the situation.
"Partners of the Month" If only for the breakfast scene.
"The Fix" Yes! For once, Natalie actually behaves like a real
researcher.
"Curiouser and Curiouser" But only if you take it to be a dream.
In that case, the subtle reversals are very revealing of Nick's various
guilt trips; and the end is significantly parallel to "Dark Knight II".
If it really *is* supposed to be in an alternative reality - well, it
makes no sense that way.

Okay, that makes ten from the episodes with Schanke in them, doesn't it?
(And what about "Father's Day"? "A More Permanent Hell"? "Bad
Blood"?) Now for Tracy:

Season Three:
    "Black Buddha" (1 & 2) I just wish they'd splurged on guest
appearances from the Season Two cast. But I loved the new
introductions; and, yes, that does mean Tracy, too.
"My Boyfriend is a Vampire" A joke episode; but it works.
"Hearts of Darkness" I'm not entirely sure how to work out that
multi-personality sometimes-vampire thing; but I love the historical
plot about Urs's past.
"Trophy Girl" Well, it makes *my* favourite list. On paper, it
ought to stink; but somehow it works out well.  Not because of the plot;
but because of the casting. And the intertwining of Nick's reaction to
Christopher Sheer with the historical scenes is masterly. Besides, we
get to see Vachon and Urs again, albeit far too briefly.
"Night in Question" Natalie vs. LaCroix. And the subtle way
Geraint conveys a not-quite-Nick-ness.
"Fever" Vachon. Screed. And the info about carouches. Oh, the
story, too.

If I had to pick my absolute favourite, I couldn't. But I'd say "Baby,
Baby" and "Night in Question" probably tie for top place, followed by
"Hearts of Darkness" and "Trophy Girl". (I did say I liked Season
Three.)

I liked because of that last scene with Nick and Nat gazing into the
fire. Very beautiful...
Also I liked the fact that the voice of the bad guy (whatever his
name was) was Geordie Johnson... aka the actor who played Lucard in
Dracula the Series. (and the talk show host in MBFIAV)

I was watching my new set of "La Femme Nikita" second season DVDs (yes, I
scored and got a set before WB recalled them---talk about an upset fan base!).
There's an episode that involves an artificial intelligence computer being used
by the bad guys, referred to only as "Bruno." There are some wonderful scenes of
Bruno doing verbal battle with Madeline. The computer used a very compelling male
voice.

While reading the credits I noted that the voice of Bruno was Colm Feore. No
wonder it sounded familiar! Ever since I saw him in "My Fair Lady" in Stratford a
couple of years ago I've really become a fan, even when you only get his voice!

I bought that harp, several years ago! ;-) But I still haven't had the time
to learn to play the thing. It's a real instrument, although it only spans
about 2.5 octaves. And, yeah, "Queen of Harps" had a lot to do with that
particular expensive mail order decision. <g> (Item #: P23990X)

In that scene, Nick's remarks (to Nat) about Alyce sound as though he thinks
she's dead. However, it appears as though the only body recovered from the fire
was the murderer/paramedic's, whose blood had evaporated from the heat of the
fire.

I was wondering, was Divia able to teach LaCroix how to bring someone across
before he "killed" her?
How much did she teach him and how much did he
have to learn on his own?
What happened to his first attempt?
Who might have been his first?

Does this smell of fanfic?

All the episode talk made me want to drag the tapes out! I was watching Close
Call this morning, and noticed that one of the pictures of Lacroix that Schanke
was looking at had message on it. It's the scene right before he goes to CERK.
All I could make out was something like "For or To Nicholas", then something
about "regretting". Does anyone have a clue what the rest says?

I have the 2nd set of LFN too. Nigel Bennett takes over the head of section
briefly in one of those - a very LaCroix-ish character. I notice a lot of FK
alumini in LFN actually since it's another Canadian show. ;)

In "I Will Repay", it is assumed that Richard did
drink from Nick's wrist. Nick is show sucking or
licking his wrist after he bites Richard in the
hospital bed. I assume this is to help close the
wound. This is right before Nat thinks he killed him
and asks how long since he tried it.

Nick gives him a bottle for his first feeding when he
wakes up in Nick's bed. And since it was Nick's
bottle, I assume it was cow. Does that make him a
carouche?

In "Beyond the Law", when he was working security at
the Democratic convention in Chicago in 1968, he used
the flashback name of Nicholas Knight.

In "Amateur Night", when he was working as a rookie
cop from Edinburgh, also in Chicago in 1967, he used
also used the flashback name of Nicholas Knight, only
this time with a Scottish accent.

Nick does not speak of carouche's fondly and I don't think he'd make Natalie's
brother one. I've always just assumed that was human blood. Although Nick
usually drinks cow, I don't think he'd want to create a carouche.

This is what makes this episode really stink. Its so
not Nick. He should have stood up to Natalie and
helped her see some reason.

I kinda thought that he gave him cow and that is part
of what made Richard go crazy. Tho maybe a non-living
first meal is what did it.
