Subject: Return to list and an announcement of FK Season 2 on DVD!

Hi Everyone!

Well after too long a hiatus away from FK, I'm
back and ready to discuss some more great stuff
from the show!

Speaking of great stuff to discuss, this nugget
of information appeared on the TV Shows on DVD
page this afternoon.
It seems we're going to get the FK Season 2 DVD
set after all! YES!

Anyhow, read the blurb below and start saving
your pennies, bugging people for holiday gift
certificates, etc. Season 2 is my personal
favorite so I'm really looking forward to this
treat on January 4th!

Thanks. Once again, it's great to be back! :)
Can't wait to see what's going on again.

Sincerely,

David

Forever Knight - Shocking News - Season 2 is
Coming!
Posted by Gord Lacey

Columbia TriStar has told us that they will
release Forever Knight: The Trilogy - Part 2
despite poor sales of the first season.

Fans felt slighted when they were told future
seasons were unlikely because of poor sales of
season 1, but the company is trudging on. We
expect the set to mirror the season 1 set. If
you've been putting off purchasing season 1 to
see if they would continue with the series then
we'd recommend picking it up before season 2.
Season 3 hasn't been scheduled, and if sales of
season 2 are lower than season 1 then it's
extremely unlikely the series will be completed.
If you're a fan of the show then please purchase
the DVD sets.

We have to admit that the news of the second
season being released shocked us since we've
heard about poor sales of season 1 for almost a
year now.

You probably want the release date - January 4th,
2005. Mark it down, and save some money for the
set. Please note that this is the currently
scheduled date, and it may change

I keep hearing about "the poor sales of season one." Do I take it there is no
way to find out how many sets were sold? Any way of find out what they would
have considered good sales?

Take care.

I find myself wondering the same thing. I mean, I know that Sony can very
well decide not to release season 3 if they decide it's not worth it, but
what are they looking for, specifically? I'm just wondering also if the
"poor sales" is more of an opinion than actual fact. I know we're a small
bunch, but still... as a whole, Sony *must* have sold more than we think?
Right?

Or am I grasping at straws? LOL

It would be interesting to do a comparison
between fandoms of differing sizes to see how the
DVD sales stack up.

Here's something to think about. When I buy the
season sets for Xena and Smallville, Anchor Bay
and the WB average between $40-$45 per 22 episode
set. The last Xena set (Season 4) was $50 but it
was loaded with special features including a
great featurette with academic profs speaking on
Amazon culture. The Smallville sets have some
good stuff on them too. (Season 2 was $44 and
Season 3 will be about the same when it comes out
in November.) If you look at ADV's releases of
Andromeda and Mutant X, you can see great quality
eppies AND features at 'decent' prices.

(Relative term: I'm estimating that a cost of
$2-$2.50 per episode is 'decent'.)

Consequently, they sell "well". (Again begging
Lynn's question, how well is "well"?) Maybe
"well" means that the supply was properly
anticipated so that stores sold their inventories
rather than having to send some back? (Here in
Kansas that happened with Season 1.) There is an
answer to this issue: maybe release only half as
many copies for the first run. If everything
goes well, they can (and believe me, will) make
more. As long as that stock keeps moving,
they'll keep it coming.

My point is this--price and content play a major
factor in people's decision to buy a DVD set.
Lowering prices and getting some
interviews/commentaries at least (GWD, NB, CD,
JP) couldn't hurt. Now that we're over 10 years
removed from the series, it would be fun to hear
what the stars think of how things went.

Columbia Tri-Star didn't exactly give us the best
value for our money the last time out but at
least they did release Season 1 and are willing
to try again. If they're going straight eppies
with no extras again, I'm hoping they aim for the
$40-$45 price venue for Season 2 but we'll see
what happens come January. As I said before, I
plan on buying it in any case.

Meantime, I hope TPTB does another marathon on
SciFi over New Year's to announce Nick's long
overdue return to DVD.

Thanks for listening. Sorry if this was long but
those are some factors that might aid or abet DVD
sales one way or the other.

Sincerely,

David

A double dish today, right now on the True channel, One of the
Holloywood Ten, and on the Scifi at about 4:45 or 5 pm, Interceptor
Force II. I'm very happy today. Can my heart take it.
