Greer Watson asks:

>fiction, I've come across more than one version: Qarah, Q'urah, Kharah, etc.
>Is any of these the canonical spelling (i.e. from the actual script for the show)?
>Does anyone know what that was?

I can't say that I've seen any scripts with his name on them (I've been so
traumatised ever since Constable Steeves in Games Vampires Play, ended up on
the cutting room floor and became an unnamed male Constable, that I've been
unable to bring myself to look at another script - kidding!), but this is
the usual problem with non-English alphabets. (Okay, I know that our
alphabet isn't called "English", linguistically speaking; I think that it's
called "Roman" or "Latin", but anyone who knows better probably ought to
just tell me off list because we'll be going far off the FK topic).

For instance, the incredibly delicious egg bread known as "Challah"
(visitors to Toronto absolutely need to give Yitz's Deli a ring, if you love
challah bread, by the way, in my not so humble opinion), is also spelled in
English as "Hallah", but in the Hebrew alphabet there is only one spelling;
same thing with "Channukah" or "Hannukah".

The situation is the same with Arabic, many Asian languages, etc. If I
recall correctly, the practise of giving English spellings to words spelled
in foreign alphabets is known as "transliteration" (but again if I have this
wrong, by all means someone please tell me so offlist), hence the multiple
spellings for Divia's dear old......dad? :-)

This is quoted from the transcripts on fkfanfic.com (LC=LaCroix, and D=Divia):

LC: The healer. The ancient one.
D: Kahaha, said to be among the first of our kind. He lived before the
pyramids were build. Long before.

I have no reason to doubt the transcripts there. Hope this helps, and have a
great day!

Hmmm. Ka-ha-ha. That would be deliciously funny, if true.
But the transcripts were made by people who *listened* to the show, and
painstakingly typed out the dialogue, bless them -- so it's the
transcribers' choice of spelling.
What we need is a copy of the script.
I'm convinced there's an R in there somewhere.<gr>

You KNOW you're a Forever Knight fan when...

A) You realize your three favourite brands of car *all* revolve around FK.:
Cadillac- Nick's car
Jaguar- LaCroix' car
Saturn- when anagrammed, it is Nat Urs. Also has to do with the with the
Roman holiday, Saturnalia.

and B) You begin to dream of FK. A couple of days ago, I dreamed that
Sony/Tristar was (were?) going to make a new FK radio drama, and they were putting
a want ad out on CNN's evening news. There was a graphic of LaCroix, and the
anchors were telling the news about the drama, saying that Sony had yet to find
someone for the role. I thought (in the dream) "Had they never heard of Victor
Roscetti*?" I woke up wondering if Nigel Bennett would ever consider playing
LaCroix again if all it required is talking into a microphone. By the way,
this was my first FK related dream. (finally)
*Victor Roscetti is a neato guy who has a voice a lot like LaCroix', and has
made several FK dramas on tape with a few others at Dragon's Lair Studios.

and the FK moment:
I was reading an article for a role-playing conference to be held here in
town. The first paragraph said something like "Don't be surprised if you see
an ancient vampire stalking a medieval knight this weekend." Of course, I
immediately giggled at the FK reference, whether intentional or not.

Well, that's it, have a great day!

I'm guessing probably from Nigel's books. In his two novels, the
character of Richard drives a Jaguar. Since Richard (at least on the
covers is portrayed as looking like Nigel) you could make the mental
leap that LC drives a Jag...

Or maybe from fanfic... I recall reading a story or two in which LC
drives a Jag... but it definitely is not canon.

Wasn't the car that LaCroix drove up in with the Don (drat, I can't
remember the name of the episode, but a guy was running away from his
grandfather because he didn't want to be in the Mafia) an old Jag?
I just remember LC stepping out of that gorgeous old low car and
standing up and up and up.

The episode was "Father's Day" and at the end, when Constantine and
LC step out of the car, I had always assumed it was Constantine's
car... not LC's.

Yep, that's the episode I was thinking of, but I didn't remember it as

I dug out my discs, and sure enough, there's a chauffeur sitting in the
car. and I suspect it's Considine's (altho' I could Miklos moonlighting
as LC's driver...).

I DO believe that the hood ornament is the leaping jaguar, but I don't
have enough detail on the VCD....and that darned Considine insisted on
standing in front of the emblem in every shot!

Who'd have thought a decade later that we'd still find points to ponder?

So I looked at my copy of the script (yellow version, dated Feb. 1,
1996), and the answer is:

QA'RA

Not quite as much fun as Kahaha, is it? Darn! It would be so
undignified for Lacroix's grandpa's name to be a sound effect. <g>

I remember that one! I can't tell you the name, but I can add more details for
whoever might know. It was part of a much longer story, but the author posted
that section as a stand-alone one Halloween. When Nick first comes to the
party, the Captain (I don't remember which) asks if it's a Templer costume, and
Nick gets incensed about that because he was a Hospitilier (and the two groups had
a rather deadly rivalry). The drunk he fights is wearing a baseball costume
and goes after Nick with a bat. After the fight, Nick puts his sword through a
table. (This is the one you're talking about, right? I'll be deeply
embarrassed if it's not.)

Yeah, I think it's fanon. I've read more than a couple of stories where
that's the car he's driving. And, it seems to fit.
