You can add me too (another overweight vegetarian) if you're taking
a survey. Yeah being an ovo-lacto vegetarian who also eats a good
number of carbs makes me one that's definately not on the slim side.

The skinny as a rail vegetarians that I've met were all vegans (ie
no eggs or milk products) and/or tried to claim to be fruitarians.
(A fruitarian is someone who TRIES to eat only fruit and no vegetables,
milk, eggs, meat, etc. which btw is actually impossible and leads to
health problems.)

Good for you, Doris! Wish I could go, but schedule and plane ticket
costs prevent me from running out for a short weekend. (The cost of
procrastination---when I first thought of going for a Friday-Sunday
trip, the ticket cost $135---I waited two weeks nad checked
again---voila! Cheapest one is $259! So---no trip for me.)

Any chance of them extending the play's run through August 31??

I guess I know a different bunch---all the vegetarians I know are
lean, but not skinny. And they're ordinary vegetarians, too, no
ovo-lacto-whatever, just no meat. They're all physically active,
although not fanatics. Guess there's a wide variety of them, just like
there are non-vegetarians.

Does anyone have an email address for E.A. "Spike" Shovelton other than
<blot30@h.......>? That emailbox is full, the bounce messages say. I
want to contact this fanfic author about his/her 2001 fanfiction titled
"Outside Looking In."

(Please contact me *off-list*. I'm almost a month behind on my digests
again already, I'm afraid.)

Thank you very much,

Aye is the dreaded carbos! Frankly, sugar is way worse for ones figure than
the fat content.(one moderates that for the old ticker)
I would imagine vegetarians find it more difficult to get the protein
needed to balance the intake with high-glycemic vegetables such as pasta,
potatoes, rice, carrots corn, etcetc. I believe this is even more prevalent
in indigenous races, which Stonetree seems to identify with, as
many(including most Caucasian races) evolved on a higher protein, or at the
very least, a more balanced diet than we are having now, hence the high
diabetes numbers, even if ones diet is what society would say is a 'healthy'
one.
Basically the rule of thumb is...if you look like an apple then lay off the
carbos or eat more protein!
Ever wondered why that rice, salad and vege diet never worked as it should
and people thought you just weren't doing it properly or not doing enough
exercise, even though you were in the pool every day? Anyone who wants to
know more should get their hands on The X-Factor by Lesley Kenton. It's very
interesting reading. Geeze i sound like an infomercial...:P

Hello all,

I've been a lurker for quite a long time, I'm really sorry hopefully
I've not broken any of the rules!!! I have been unable to retrieve my
mail within the last several months, thankfully my mailbox holds about
two gigabytes of storage space! I was sorry to hear of Judith's passing,
had I gotten this sooner I'd have written sooner! My condolences to her
family as well as her online family and friends! I didn't know her very
well I'm sorry to say. We had talked very briefly some time back.

I did want to ask, as I've been offline for quite some time now, is
there still an FK chat on AOL? Or was that simply something some of the
listmembers had discussed doing a long while back but maybe it hadn't
come to fruition? I don't recall for sure, and it has been an incredible
amount of time since I've really had time to be online for anything more
than work related purposes.

Hopefully I'll be able to post more and more frequently from now on!!!
Sincerely,
Loreal

Veggies, veggies, everywhere...

As a medium weight example of the above, I’d say that vegetarian describes what
you eat, not who you are. ;) Although the days are gone when I would find it
impossible to find anything to eat when dining out, I am still versed in the
etiquette of avoiding several courses, eg fish at a formal meal. It is
perfectly possible to sit with a glass of water or wine in front of you instead
of a plateful of food - people get quickly get bored with asking why you’re not
eating. The other problem is that the ‘vegetarian option’ is invariably loaded
with garlic, which I cannot eat. Either way, being on an ‘alternative’ diet
means that sometimes it’s easier to simply avoid many food-based social
gatherings. Just a thought.

Heck, it sounds like I never get out…I do, honestly. :)

Yeah, the other thing I was thinking is that, if Nick ever came "out of the
coffin" to Stonetree, the Captain would definitely be sympathetic to the
special dietary problem...

Hi, Gang ~

I've been away from the List from awhile, and will continue to be, as
my father is in intensive care at the Veterans' hospital here in Dallas.
{He's off the ventilator right now, but we're playing it one day at
a time.}

However, I wanted to take a quick second to say that a couple of days
ago, my hubby, Jim, was dozing while listening to National Public Radio,
and caught a review of the "Cyrano" that Ger is doing. He came fully
awake when he recognized Ger's voice reading lines.

Those who are interested can probably find the review on the NPR site.
Jim said it was a positive review.

Gotta go,

Sami

Nice little piece in today's Washington Post.
The website is washingtonpost.com -- there's a good picture from the first
