Subject: Uniform question

Here's where my thoughts, FK-wise, went today: Does Nick have a dress uniform?
And if so, why didn't he wear it to testify in court for False Witness? In
fact,
nobody wore uniforms to court--not Schanke, not Capt. Stonetree; they wore
suits. Is it usual for detectives to appear in court in plain clothes?

Any thoughts?

I woudl assume so... as far as I am aware he would have a dress
uniform that he would have to wear for 'official' or 'ceremonial'
functions.
In the show "Due South' when Louie ? - correct me if I got the wrong
one - was killed, Vecchio was wearing a dress uniform for the
funeral. Yes that is Chicago, but...
-Amanda (I would have loved to have seen Nick in his dress
uniform... yeah we saw him in a police uniform in the flashback, but
still.)

I don't know about Canada, but the police I know of in the US are
divided into "uniformed" police and detectives. The uniformed police
wear uniforms, but detectives wear business attire. I don't ever
remember a police detective having a uniform.

On Law & Order, you see the plain clothes detectives and captains wear
their dress uniforms to cop funerals. I think that L&O is pretty
realistic in these facts, so I'd say that yes, to ceremonies like
that, Nick would wear a dress uniform. But testifying in court calls
for a regular business suit (also falling back on many hours watching
L&O).

This of course applies to the US, but I bet it's similar in Canada.

Hi

My husband testifies in a business suit not in Uniform. He wears uniforms for
all funerals and some promotions (like the police academy class he will wear
one)

I'm not so sure--many years ago, the best place in Calgary to find Mounties in
full dress uniform was on the C-Train to the courthouse... But heaven knows
that dress codes have changed substantially in the 20 years since. Also, the
courthouse includes some fairly high courts (Alberta Court of Appeal) which
might have more stringent dress codes, I suppose.

Has anyone heard about this series? Is it on yet, or still upcoming? It sounds
a *lot* like FK. But of course, it appears it will only be seen on Canadian
television, and like so much other good stuff, we'll never get to see it in the
States. Wah!

Or Europe for that matter :( [although we tend to get a LOT of Canadian TV
over here] *sigh*
What I found especially intriguing is that the main character was born in
Nuremberg in the 14th century. My hometown is just a couple of miles around
the corner from there.
It has apparently started its run last Wednesday.

Premise also sounds a bit like an 'ancient' version of the series Brimstone,
which aired in the US several years ago.

It DOES sound like "Brimstone", but with the added twist of redemption
thrown in! That was the one problem with "Brimstone"...there was never
a happy ending, but John Glover was delicious as The Devil. Anyone know
who's involved in this besides the actors? Maybe there are some FK alum
doing production!

Blast! I forgot all about it. I meant to watch on Wednesday. I'll catch
it next week and let you all know.

Lately I've been watching my new Highlander Season 4 DVDs. They did an
incredible job with commentaries, interviews, deleted scenes, and even
scripts! I especially enjoy the commentaries by Gillian Horvath, who was
their Creative Consultant. FK fans will remember she wrote several of
the better historical episodes (Queen of Harps for one). (That's one of
the FK connections.) I wish Sony had added even a QUARTER as much extra
stuff in the FK DVDs. Anything! Does anyone know anything about the
release date of the Second Season?

The other personal connection between the two series is how I was
introduced to FK. In late fall of '02 I sat down to watch a HL episode &
was initially upset because the Space network had substituted another
programme - something called Forever Knight. I watched anyway, and was
hooked the first show - even though the first episode that I saw was
Last Knight! And the rest is magnificent obsession...
