True enough. But the snippet I described (it's only about 13 seconds long) is
*only* in the 1992 CBS Network version. It's not in the syndicated/SciFi Channel
tapes, or the Canadian versions, *or* the DVD release. Puzzling.

You can't exactly say that this is another bit cut from the DVDs, because there
is nowhere for this scene to go in the complete version of "Dead Issue." It
wouldn't make any sense put back in after the rape flashback, because originally,
that occurred while Nat was there. In the extra scene, Nick's alone. But neither
can I find the mystery scene in any other 1st season episode. Guess it's not
lifted from another episode, then. So, I'm beginning to think that CBS must
have had some extra scenes of Nick hitting the bottle lying around that they
could drop in to make scenes they'd otherwise butchered make sense. In this case,
they'd cut the entire bit with Nick and Nat, Ilse's portrait and the green veggie
drink. They kept the rape flashback, but as they'd cut Nat out, they
substituted the "Nick alone, waking up, grabbing the bottle, biting out the cork
and taking a swig" scene for the missing conversation with Nat. Weird.

So *now* I want to know... were there other throw-away scenes found only in the
CBS versions? If anyone finds any, please let me know. Better yet, post your
findings here. :-)

Well, Megan, I'm certainly with you in believing that he does use credit
cards - and in this day and age, so would most of the Community. Mainly
because they've probably all fall in love with the idea of buying via the
internet. Just imagine.... we mere mortals have finally perfected (okay,
more or less) a system that allows your self-respecting vampire to purchase
just about anything they want, at any hour of the day - sorry, night! - for
delivery to your home, usually the next day. Methinks Uncle and co would
thoroughly approve of this setup. And it is all but impossible to make
purchases on the net without a credit card, or two.

Thinking back to the problems Libsie recently reported about her credit card
bouncing thanks to her ex, I suspect word would soon go round the Community
if it ever happened to a vampire for any reason (such as a case of internet
credit card fraud, where some soon-to-be-drained fool hacked into Uncle's
credit card details and made extensive purchases at his expense.... And if
anyone wants to write the resultant fanfic, be my guest!), so most would
maintain two or three, just in case....

Besides, I agree with Megan about it making things harder to track his
purchases, and therefore his financial status. After all, that's how they
brought down Al Capone - they proved how much money he spent (and I think
off hand it was something like a quarter of a million a year - and that was
back around 1930 to boot), and then successfully took him to court on tax
evasion, on the grounds that if he was spending X amount a year, he *had* to
have an income of at least X amount a year. With near perfect memory
recall, I doubt LaCroix has forgotten that little lesson, and has his
finances so twisted and betangled he'd even leave an ex-Enron accountant
struggling to understand the paper trail. (Hmmm.... Uncle hires ex-Enron
accountant.... more fanfic ideas?)

Whatever he carries, I'm sure he has
Merlin or Aristotle manage his accounts

I'd love to see a it where some low life tries to
hack into/misuse one of LC's cards

Would Merlin/Aristotle have to call him
& say there's some weird acitivy
or would LC suddenly notice someone went through his wallet

Also would LC drain the guy right away
or have a little fun with him?

Subject: A Book for LC

I was just reading the new issure of "Entertainment Weekly" and in
the books section, there was a review for the new book "Pompeii" by
Richard Harris. It tells the story (fictionally) of the last 2 days
before the eruption. One character mentioned in the review is really
nasty and reminds me of LC.
Looks like I'll have to add it to the pile. :)
