The FK DVDs ont he day they were released were put on a special table that
you saw right away in the DVD section of my local Best Buy here at the Northeast
Mall (which is near my home in Keller, Texas). Not sure if all Best Buys
have a "new release" table but mine does. They later moved the DVDs up where
they keep Buffy and Angel (the week after initial release) so fans could find
them easily.

Not sure how well the DVDs are selling but I have my copy. I pre-ordered it
from Amazon.

I just wanted to thank-you for taking the time to explain the process. No I
doubt that I'd ever do it, I'd be too afraid that I'd damage my teeth. (I'm
even squeemish whenever the dentist tries to take an impression thinking
that that's gonna damage something.)

I thought of someone else. Urs might be pursuaded to make fake fangs for
someone. (Since it's in her nature to try to please others.) And I agree
Lacroix wouldn't, although if someone asked for fake fangs, he might decide
to give someone fangs by the "natural" method (chomp, hello fledgling). And
Divia definatly wouldn't try to help anyone! She didn't even try to
save her own mother from Vesuvius (forget about making fake fangs for
anyone else).

Subject: DVDs - Denied! (update)

Thank you everyone for your kind words and very good suggestions on what
to do about my missing DVDs.

Here's an update on my situation.

The Post Office has utterly refused to do anything about it other than to
never leave packages by my door in the future. I've filed the various
bits of paperwork I fully expect to be duly filed by some postal employee
in the circular file (yep, cynical about government processes).

Barnes & Noble said they'd refund my money and I could simply reorder the
item and they're paying for shipping. Nice, 'cept the item no longer
sells for $25. I've pointed out the obvious problem with this, plus my
budget being locked in for this pay period. I'm waiting to hear back from
them to see if they'll honor the original price.

Again, thanks for the kind thoughts and your suggestions. It's really
helped a lot.

Subject: Giving up some FK stuff

Hi everybody,

I've finally come to the conclusion that I just simply cannot keep every single
item of TV show memorabilia that I've collected in my lifetime and in the
interest of freeing up some space I'm parting with a bunch of stuff. Much of
the list is various and sundry FK related items. There are also things from a
few other shows. Many of the items (both FK and non-FK) are "free plus postage"
and the things that aren't free are generally pretty reasonable given what I
paid for them. I'll ship anywhere, your choice of shipping methods/options,
and you are welcome to make an offer if you don't like my listed price.

Please email me OFF LIST at bjdfkfan@a....... if you'd like a copy of my list
of items. The list is in MS Word format...if you need a different format
(plain text etc.) please also mention that in your email.

I can't help thinking that this would make a great show ... a history series
with interviews by the Nightcrawler. :-) Just think how many "Reality TV"
history programs have been popular recently!

Wouldn't it be better to have "I was there", hosed by Lucien LaCroix.

Imagine the fun he would have describing some Roman battle. "Here the Roman
legions under the command of General Lucius fought a pitched battle against
the invaders. At the critical moment, I, er General Lucius, broke the
spirit of the invaders with a flank attack from a hidden cohort."

The possibilities are endless.. Fan-fic?

As someone (I'm thinking Nancy K.) pointed out the last
time a discussion like this popped up, it would be
interesting seeing how he came up with provenance for
the items. How do you explain possessing rare things
that nobody's seen for centuries?

Things come up for auction that were part of private family collections all
the time.

Yeah, but it would be hard to explain how truly exquisite examples of art and
artifacts were totally unknown for so long. I've read about this issue in
sources such as Archaeology magazine---tracing the ownership of museum-quality
artifacts is quite amazing. They find stuff mentioned in wills, household lists,
letters, journals, and so on, that chronicle possession of items down through the
years. It would be very hard to explain away something that LC has possessed for
2000 years as having been in a private family collection---what family? Where?
Where'd they get it? Why wasn't it mentioned in said journals/wills/lists etc.?
Why has no one seen it---ever?

I think that modern-day experts would immediately think that the artifact was
either a fake, or stolen from a modern dig, and thus subject to international
and national laws against the removal of artifacts from their country of origin.
(Indiana Jones is no longer! Digs are authorized and regulated by national
bureaucracies, and often the PTB have a representative on hand to ensure that any
finds are not taken out of the country but will end up in a national museum.)

Maybe Aristotle could whip up enough documtentation to push through some
smaller items. But other than somehow taking stuff to Italy and planting it in
someone's field, then accidentally "finding" it, LC would have a tough time
auctioning that marble bust at Sotheby's. He'd have much better luck on the
illegal black market.

After all, you can whammy only so many people!

Just say

I "Found" them

Or
they're family heirlooms
that have been passed down for a long time

Or

One day I found my room over run with elves & lepercons.
They gave me these things in exchange for an over night stay
& letting them raid my fridge.

But I don't think they'll buy that last one

All he has to do is claim that he inherited them from an ancestor. This even
covers Roman objects. From the Renaissance until the First World War, gentlemen
routinely brought home antiquities from visits to Italy. Pompeii was first
seriously excavated in the 18th century. A number of the finds got into private
hands.

This is what a common line in exhibition catalogs means when describing
provenance: "[name of first known owner] and by descent." If the current
descendant doesn't want to admit to owning the item, he or she doesn't have to
allow his or her name to appear.

Since LaCroix'd selling them, he'd have to give a name, but all he needs to do
is have Aristotle or whoever does his document forgeries for Aristotle provide
a few strategic documents. Apparent estate inventories, wills, and so on would
do fine.

ROTFL!

Seriously though, Lisa's right, he could pass them off
as an "inheritance". While Pompeii wasn't seriously
excavated until the 19th century (1800's ;) ) it could
have ceom from amature diggers or even from other
sites. I saw a program on the history channel the
other day about a couple of other "lost" Roman cities
that'd just been abandoned, and there are other
scattered cities that have much of the walls, etc.
pretty much intact. I'm sure that some of this stuff
could be found inside.

Won't work. Found them where? When? Tell all. If you disturbed an
archaeological site, you get arrested.

See previous post about evidence of possession.

It was so much easier a hundred years ago...
