With all this news about Isabel

I keep thinking about that one flashback
(I don't remember th ep) Nick was fighting
in the civil war, some guy using a VERY primitive
camara caught a picture of LC feeding on one of the wounded
(I didn't understand that . . . Vamps don't show up in mirrors
so why did LC show up on film . . . . But that's a diffrent argument)

With all the distruction from Isabel , would LC, or some other
Vamps, take a trip to get a free meal???

But then I suppose Vamps don't like the south

Don't forget that Nick showed up on the videotape in
the same episode.

In FK, vampires do show up in mirrors, and can be photographed, as evidenced by
all the photos we've seen of Nick and Co. (the daguerrotype of Nick, Janette,
and LC from the mid-1800s; Nick and his English friends in WWII; Nick and the
German family in Berlin, among others).

But that was for the most part property destruction, not the human destruction
of war and pestilence. All LC would get out of Isabel would be wet clothes. <g>

That vamps-don't-show-in-mirrors thing is just a
trick to fool the mortals. {"Look, I've got a
reflection, see? I can't be a vampire. Now take
that wooden stake and run along."}

Besides, most days I'd pay good money for MY image
not to show up on film or in mirrors. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Swan wrote about LaCroix having his image in a picture. The no reflection
thing is a myth, no truth to it. It's written if you have no soul, you have no
face. He had one, but didn't know it.

It depends on which vampire mythos you are using. In some, they have no
reflection - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for example (yet those vampires also show up on
film so film must be different than a mirror reflection in that scenerio).

Even in FK, at one point Natalie asked Nick if he could see his reflection, and
he said, "Sometimes." However, my cheesy rationalization is that he hadn't
totally been truthful about everything with her yet, and she was assuming a lot
about vampires.

There are numerous different vampire legends world-wide, and they all vary.
That's why there's so many differences in vampires we see or read about depending
on the story source and author.

That's true, pending what show and what they follow. I had always felt Nick
always had is soul, but convinced him enough he didn't. That's why he could at
times because he gave up the vampire ways and the blood. Maybe? Stay safe.

I always thought Nick was special

It is usually assumed when someone it "bit"
They become pure EVIL
But there are meny examples & flashbacks
that show nick still had some good in him

He hadden't fully turned to the DARK side
(The force is strong with this one! HUUUKKK . . . . HUUKKK)

I always thought nick was a muntent or hybrid
The whole series they pick on nick for it

Until the end, when Janette suddenly came back

Because Nick is special
He might still have at least part of his soul
That might be why he "sometimes" saw his reflection

I don't recall the soul having been mentioned in FK as having anything to do
with being or not being a vampire... Does anyone remember any references at all?
It does in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I don't remember it in FK.

ANd other vampires also had reflections - didn't Vachon when he stepped out of
the shadow? I could be very wrong but I also seem to have a vague memory of
LaCroix's relection on the enclosure of the CERK radio booth in The Raven.

In FK, vampire doesn't automatically equal evil. Even LaCroix had his non-evil
moments. The only vampire I can think of as pure evil in FK is the Jack the
Ripper one, although I'm sure there were others. Urs certainly wasn't, nor was
Vachon, Screed, Janette, Perry and his owner, Aristotle, etc.

Yes, they fed on humans and LaCroix especially seemed to enjoy it. But in
modern times they seem to go more by bottled blood.

I don't think FK defined humans and vampires by
whether or not they had a soul, however the lack of a
soul in vampires was alluded to by Janette when she
chided Nick for being "tortured by a soul he hasn't
got" ... I don't recall which episdoe this appeared
in.

Season 1 seemed to be the only season that made it seem like vampires "may"
not have a soul. LaCroix and Janette didn't think they did, but Nick wasn't
sure. Seasons 2 (Near Death) and 3 made it clear that they did indeed have
souls.

Actually, the producers had intended to erase the FK vampires'
reflections in post-production. This was done only sporadically
because of time and money constraints. Ger and C.D. tried to
provide a rationale, in a bit which CBS cut out. Remember the
scene in Father Figure where Nick is sitting in front of a mirror
as Nat digs a bullet out of him? CD adlibbed a line in which
Nat says that the treatment is working. He can be seen in the
mirror. He replied, "only sometimes."

It seems to me that if they were going to photograph as in
Nick's police i.d. and the old driver's license, they ought to
reflect normally. Consistency was never FK's strong point. :)

As for souls, that's Buffy in which the vampires don't have
souls and are therefore evil. FK never said its vampires don't have
souls. If the scene where Nick is suspended between life and death
after flatlining is taken literally, he does have a soul. If Erica is
really a ghost and not Nick's hallucination, then FK vampires do have
souls because they're capable of manifesting as ghosts.

And then there are the ghosts from the house which has a gateway
in it.

I realize the all of the above can be taken as hallucinations. Personally
I think a universe which contains vampires, like the FK universe, might
as well contain ghosts. Your mileage may vary. :)

Come to think of it, FK vampires aren't necessarily evil. Even LaCroix
has his good points.

I remember Janette's line about Nick and the soul "he hasn't got."

But, I personally don't take that to be definitive because after all,
the real world contains both people like me, who believe we have
souls, and plenty of people who don't believe we have them. So
nobody has managed to prove or disprove the existence of the soul.

So I just figure that the line only means that Janette doesn't believe
vampires have souls.
