Perhaps... Plummer is only going to be in it for 8 weeks, but the
show will last longer. Sometimes major stars are only in a
performance for a short time, but the show itself lasts longer. Just
a thought....
Hoping it lasts longer so I can stalk the stage door. :)

Well, as a real estate investor and landlord myself, I can say that if I
were the owner(s) of that property, I'd probably want to remove the water
tower as well (okay, lets all "Fire at Will" now :-) ). Unless I were
deliberately trying to for a "warehouse district" look, I'd think that the
water tower was inconsistent with the upscale nature of the condos to be
built. I could be wrong, though, which would be nice.

That said, the water tower is nevertheless a promiment area landmark and
adds some character to the area, so the reaction of "Will the fan" might
well be different from "Will the landlord".

P.S. : Sorry to everyone for imposing my last note upon the list with all
the dreaded equals signs in it. I am using a different e-mail program from
what I have used in the past. If anyone was attempting in vain to read the
note (Why? I don't know, maybe someone thinks that she's the one with whom
I have the bone to pick and might just possibly be interested in making
peace, who knows?) and would like a "good copy", just ask off-list.

Subject: False Witness.....

I am sitting here rewatching False Witness (and eating popcorn<g>)
and I noticed a couple of things....

When Nick and Scanke are questioning Mistress Tamara in her apartment
(when she's wearing the rubber dress), during one of the shots of
Nick you can see a sword hanging in the background.... it is Nick's
sword from the flashback of Queen of Harps.... I guess he didn't
notice, otherwise he may have swiped it since it was from ....
"before".

Also... regarding the 'popcorn' scene. I had thought that the whole
joke of it was that Catherine didn't know about the fangs.... but in
the script it says on the very last page that "Nick smiles at her....
his fangs showing...." Did she not get that page?

Ok, back to the video....

I have not been getting much sleep lately so, don't mind the
weirdness....

I was reading through the news articles at yahoo came across one
about the poor fashion sense of the ancient Romans. It seems they
have found evidence (in more than one place) that the Romans...
*gasp*.....

wore (most likely wool) socks with their sandals!!!!

I just cannot picture an impeccably dressed man such as LC wearing
socks with his sandals. Kinda puts a new light on him, doesn't
it.... ;-D

Ok, I really need to TRY to get some sleep.

Scary?? That's not scary! What's scary is what I saw when I visited
Germany when I was 17. I saw otherwise normal-looking businessmen
wearing sandals with their business suits. What made it mind-boggling
was that, to a man, they wore *orange* socks with those sandals.

<shudder>

Now, if *every* Roman wore socks with their sandals, it would be de
regeur! Picture Caesar with royal purple sandals (the royal color, you
know). Picture senators making snide remarks about other senators who
wore dirty socks to the Senate. Think about Romans paying thousands of
sesterces for a slave that could knit argyle-patterned socks!

Fanfic anyone?

This is definitely something German men haven't
overcome yet, to my chagrin. Sandals and socks,
 grrrr.

Now to the Romans: (take it from somewhone who runs
around dressed as a Roman empress more than once a
 year)

Sandals were the shoes of soldiers or only worn
round the house. No self-respecting Roman would have
worn sandals while walking the Forum. The standard for
men were closed boots (Caesar would have worn purple
colored ones btw). Soldiers wore special sandals
(caligae)and when it got cold (winter or in Germania
<G>) they had the option of wearing woolen
stockings/ leggings with the sandals. This was only
done when the weather was very bad as it was
considered to be effeminate.
It is one of the things that are always done wrong
 in those Hollywood movies.

Greetings from Germania Superior (former Roman
 province)

Subject: More info about Ger on Broadway

August 28, 2003

From a friend of mine in New York, who got most of this info off Lincoln
Center's website, and who is very knowledgeable about the New York theatre
scene.
Playbill is the official publisher of all theatre programs for Broadway shows:

Lincoln Center Theater in NYC has started marketing "memberships"
 ("MEMBERSHIP $40, TICKETS $40/$30") in it's 2003/04 season which
includes King Lear. The KL tickets are not on sale yet, just
 the "memberships."
 http://www.lct.org/index.cfm
LCT probably will market this series of 3 plays heavily this fall
with NY Times ads. It should be a very good selling series, as in
addition to KL limited run, there is Sondheim's "The Frogs" with
Nathan Lane and Henry IV starring Kevin Kline and a pretty high
profile cast (which is the first of the series and starts Oct. 28).
Henry IV is starting to get press and there are some recent news
items about it at Playbill.com. The KL tickets will probably sell
very well, because LCT is only a 1,100 seat theater (vs. [Stratford]
Festival
Theater 1,800 which mostly sold out). It should get good press and
there are a few key roles that have yet to be announced.

According to info. previously published in Playbill, King Lear
performances start Feb. 11 and the opening is March 4, an 8 week run
is planned/5 perf per week. Playbill (in June) reported that regular
tickets would go on sale in early 2004.

Unless you plan on going to other plays at LCT, this membership probably isnt
worth it. If you read the fine print, (And it is only listed in the fine
print), you may only purchase ONE ticket per membership, per play. That means,
even if the play is running 8 weeks, you may only purchase ONE ticket at the
discounted price, and only One ticket early. If you want to see more than one
performance of the play, you have to buy tickets from the traditional vendors.

EEEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!
How many years of therapy did it take to get over THAT?
I'm still shivering, just thinking about it! Yikes!

Seriously, the only possible explanation for a businessman
wearing orange socks and sandals with his suit would be:
(a) sudden-onset senility, (b) his house was on fire when
he was getting dressed, (c) LaCroix - having some fun
again, making appalling suggestions to poor wimpy little
humans.

{Then again, there are the horses. They're always making
snide comments about fashion. If you start believing them,
you'll find yourself running around in a big pink hat, for
God's sake.}

But the notion of LaCroix in shorts and black socks - oh,
dear! I can't remember who suggested that, but - gee, it
was vivid! Appalling, but vivid!

Maybe this is a European thing?? From way back.
I dunno why but when I first saw this string the first picture in my mind was
of Ger in Chicago doing Do Not Go Gentle. Wasn't part of his costume sandals
-- with socks. I remember at the time thinking -- yuck, but once the
performance started, I dont think I looked at much other than his face.

My understanding is that Ger had makeup apply the fangs when
Catherine did not expect them. She knew what the scene was supposed
to be, but Ger was wearing fangs during a rehearsal or some such.
So, when he flashed real fangs at her, it was startling as she didn't
expect them at that point in the filming process.

I think what you have is an "as aired" script. This may be the wrong term,
but the kind of script I mean is a transcript of the show as it actually was
broadcast. That would include anything that made it into the final cut,
including practical jokes by members of the cast. It's for the record after
the production is complete. Other scripts reflect the show with revisions as
it was being written or in production. Both kinds are out there in the
fandom.
