Not silly at all Cindy. I sure don't know but I can ask. I'm going to NS
tomorrow to see Nigel's play and GWD's play.

If they don't know that would be a "hoot"! My guess is they know.

I'll get back with whatever info I get by mid-week.

I let Greg (Screed) know when the rumor first surfaced even though he'll be in
the last part of the "trilogy," and I'm assuming at least those with fan clubs
know.

The GWDFC knows. There was a copy of the picture from the CD's included in
the mailing I received yesterday from them along with information (all of
which has already been related on this list) regarding release date, etc.

Ahhh, back online after no internet because of the blackout!
I just pre ordered FK from Amazon and it is listed at #37 in DVD!
Wow!
I plan to get one on the internet, and one from a regular store when
it comes out.

I tell you what, y'all, I love this show a lot and all, but I wouldn't pay $80
unless it was the whole series. It looks like I'll be waiting until people get

I have just received email from that same source stating that there is a correction and that the Suggested List Price for the 1st season FK DVDs is $79.95, not $29.95.

Suggested list price might be $79 (which is less than a lot of TV series) but
I pre-ordered with Barnes & Noble and paid $23. Maybe they aren't going to
price it at the "suggested list" for preorders. I think the fact that the DVD
isn't being released until October and is already at #23 on Amazon's list (and
we aren't all ordering through Amazon) says something for the pent-up demand.
Now if TPTB would notice and do a few more novels, etc.....

This is the first I have heard of this. I, specifically, asked Gord at
tvshowsondvd.com about this when the $29.95 retail price was announced. He
said the info is accurate, especially since Columbia tends to cram their
DVDs (most TV shows with 22 eps would have been on 6 discs and FK is on just
5) and leave out the extras. This is the main reason why their prices are
more affordable. All of the online pre-order sites so far are listing $29.95
as retail price and putting the DVDs on sale, usually from $22 to $23.
Columbia may also realize how much FK is in demand (it did not even have to
be listed at their online tv shows on dvd poll) and think they'll sale
larger quantities at this price. They also seem to want FK to appeal to
general vampire fans (take a look at the vampy cover ;)).

FK is now #43 at amazon.com, which is *really* impressive for a show that
was just listed on their site yesterday!

Hope this sheds some light,

Just a guess - Didn't "If Looks Could Kill" have one name when it aired in
Canada and another when it aired in the U.S. ? Maybe someone was counting
up episode titles and came up with 23, even though there are only 22 actual
episodes.

>>> This is the first I have heard of this. I, specifically, asked Gord at

Yes, it was announced. Such announcements change all the time. Remember,
the Tracker DVDs were announced and up for preorder too, and look what happened
there! It is even on the PowerPoint slide that I was sent on August 4 as SLP
$29.95. What I'm saying is that I got a follow up email from the person who
sent me the .ppt slide saying that that SLP was wrong in the announcement.
That does NOT necessarily mean that the RETAIL price will change when the stores
have been notified of the correction to the SLP. SLP and Retail price are two
VERY different things, as we all know. I only posted about it here because I
thought folks might like to be made aware of a change that may (or may not)
impact them.

As for the reasonableness or lack thereof of an SLP of $79.95, I would point
out, for example, Stargate. The 5 disc season 4 box set of Stargate has an
SLP of $69.95. Amazon retails it for about $52. The upcoming Battlestar
Galactica 6 disc complete box set has an SLP of $119.98. Amazon's preorder retail
price is $89.99. The 8 disc, 22 episode box set of Highlander season 2 has an
SLP of $89.98 and Amazon sells it for $67.49. That should make something with
an SLP of $79.99, what, maybe around $60-65? That doesn't sound half bad to
me. Heck, I paid something like $200 for a PAL VHS set of Lexx from the UK
before the US DVDs came out, and just think what people end up paying for series
through Columbia House's program!

Anyway, even if the stores catch the change in the SLP and change the retail
price, we won't really be paying $79.95. And I still don't know what the law
says about stores honoring advertised preorder retail prices when an SLP
changes...that law may well vary from state to state. I guess I'll find out if
the place I've preordered from ever makes it an issue!

there is a photo of Crown Prince Philippe and Crown Princess Mathilde of
Belgium. The crown prince, born in 1960, carries the full title "His Royal

Crown Prince Philippe looks like he could have been Ger's brother.

I'm not sure about the content of the Stargate and
Battlestar Galactica box sets, but the Highlander box
set contains extras, including a blooper reel on the
first season set. I'm going to buy the FK DVDs, but,
at the same time, I'll be p*ssed at C/T if they set a
suggested retail price of almost $80 for a barebones
edition of FK. If they reasonably want to charge those
prices, then give us some extras on the disc.

You can already pre-order the FK DVDs at DeepDiscountDVD.com for $22.06US. It
is the cheapest price I've found so far (and I already ordered 3 sets). Prices
at Amazon.com and CDUniverse.com are slightly higher, but still less then the
list price of $29.95. Even Barnes&Noble.com has it for $25.00. It is NOT
$79.95 anywhere I've found it available. Who started this rumor of the inflated
price?

>>> Who started this rumor of the inflated price? <<<

As I keep saying, I'm just telling everybody what someone from Sony told me,
that's ALL. She says the previously announced SLP of $29.95 was an ERROR and
it should've been announced as SLP $79.95.

>>> It is NOT $79.95 anywhere I've found it available. <<<

No, you're absolutely right, it's NOT $79.95 anywhere I've found it available
either, and I NEVER said it was. Sony's announcement with the SLP of $29.95
went out to the retailers on August 11, so that's what they list it at. And
AGAIN, SLP and retail price are NOT the same anyway. Hopefully the retail
price will stay at the $22 or so that we've all, including myself, preordered it
at.

Since my comparisons with Highlander and Battlestar season sets were not
comparable enough, here's another. The Tick (live action series), by Sony, 9
episodes on 2 discs, SLP is $29.95 and retail is about $22. Then there's Lexx,
admittedly not Sony, but season 2 is 5 discs and virtually no extras at all and
its SLP is $99.95 with retail being $60 to $90. We're just going to have to
be patient and see if Sony changing FK's SLP has any effect in the REAL WORLD
of retail DVDs. It may not.

I don't know how many more ways I can say it, I have NO IDEA if a change in
the SLP will have ANY impact on the retail price. I was just SHARING THE
INFORMATION I WAS GIVEN.

Is there a recommended website that lists the various editions of an issued DVD?
I know some are issued as one disk and then a two disk set later or at the same time.
I'm just trying to get the most bang for my buck on these things.

Yes. DVD Price Search will return all versions of a
title and give you a comparison table of prices at
various stores (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, DVD Empire,
Deep Discount DVD, etc.) with S&H charges and final
totals so that you can see who has the best deal:

http://www.dvdpricesearch.com/cgi-bin/dvdhtml2

Unfortunately, they don't yet have FK in their
searchable database so you would have to check each
individual store. At the moment, it is cheapest at
DeepDiscountDVD, and they also have free shipping.
