Subject: best Episode

The other night I read a review of one of the FK episodes. In it they
damned GWD with faint praise and praised Nigel Bennett as LaCroix. I over
what they said and decided the episode they had reviewed did not
necessarily bring out the best of Nick Knight.

Which brings me to my question. Take a character and then pick out the
episode which you think shows that particular character off to his or her
best advantage. (personality , development of their relationships with
another character etc.) Just who they are. Dark and light sides if you're
talking about the vampires in the show, what ever. I am not asking for
your favourite episode just the one you think showed off the character the
best.

Off the top of my head without really thinking about it I would pick.

for I have sinned for a dark Nick that scene he does with Joan of Arc
always gives me the shivers. with Dance by the Light of the moon running
second.

Partners of the Month for Schanke. I love the way he and Nick spar with
each other at the loft.

Tracy My boyfriend is a vampire It is one of the few episodes she
actually acts with Nick and you get a glimpse of what her character might
have been like.

Vachon Black Buddah part I I don't really know why

Strangely enough I find it harder to choose for Natalie and LaCroix.

Perhaps Night in question for Natalie. I'm not really sure. the way she
defended Nick against LaCroix

and maybe Sons of Beliah for LaCroix. I don't know

ok.... let's see....

Nick - ok hard one.... probably Queen of Harps and Be My Valentine -
you get to see where he is coming from and kind of why he does what
he does - (of course this could change tomorrow, depending on my
mood)

Nat - Undue Process (she is central to this ep - Nick is a side
character, you really get to see her feelings and such)

Lacroix - Ashes to Ashes - (again, it revolves around LC and his
issues and therefore shows more about who he is)

Janette - a tie - the one where she is brought across (can't think of
the name now) and Human Factor - Yeah, I don't necessarily like what
happens in HF, but you get insight into who she is and what she's
feeling

Schanke - Hunted... or Hunters (the one with the sniper guy) and
Partners of the Month. - We see a little more than just Nick's
partner.

Tracy - I agree with My Boyfriend is A Vampire - she actually seems
like a real person in this and not just a replacement

Vachon - Blackwing - His character shows some depth in both caring
for Tracy and about the people arond him

Screed - Fever - Not being a huge fan of his (nothing personal Libs)
it really made me see him as someone and made me care about him

Did I miss anyone?

-Amanda

Oh, golly, that's tough. Let's see... I'm going to go specifically for the
episodes I think best bring out the complexity of the charecters, those
marvelous multi-facited personalities that made them real people rather than
the cardboard cutouts so common in modern television. (I just spent half an
hour trying and failing to find something watchable on TV.)

For Natalie, it may be cliched, but I'm going to pick Only the Lonely. The
contrast between her as the cool, clinical scientist who can barely admit the
truth to herself ('Liar'), to a bright and cheerful woman who enjoys a day in
the park, to the instinctive fear in reacting to a dangerous situation that's
out of control, is both realisitic and very human.

LaCroix's episodes for this one would have to be Father's Day and Close call,
where he ranges from being cruel, threatening and obsessive to brilliantly (and
unexpectedly) helpful.

Schanke's charecter got it's chance to really shine in Amature Night; while he
does act a little silly at times, for once he got to prove himself an
intellegent and capable detective (and I got the feeling from the show that the
silliness is his way of coping with an extremely high-impact job). The scene
at the end when he talks down the wanna-be gangster is singularly brilliant!

Other than that, I agree with the suggestions already put forth, though I do
have one comment left to add: for sheer acting ability, GWD gets every hair on
my head's vote for Sons of Belial! I had gotten to the exorcism part when my
sister walked in and asked me what in the world was going on. I discovered
that I had backed myself into the corner of the couch (and was still trying to
back up), knees drawn up to chest, and eyes wide as dinner plates! I had to
keep reminding myself that he was just acting!

I've sene that one twice and really didn't even wanna
see it the second time, but I had to tape it. That
one's a bit too creepy for my taste. Interesting on
some standpoints, but creepy.

Other comment: The ep where Janette was brought over
was 'Fate Worse Than Death'...not sure who was trying
to think of it.

I have to agree with a lot of what's already been
said...not really sure if I have any comments of my
own to add

Mel (I can remember eps here fairly easy...it's only 3
seasons. I frequently have to go look to remember an
HL ep because it's hard to think through six seasons.
So, I'm not always this good at remembering titles
LOL.)

This is not an easy job. But here goes.

For Tracy I would choose the episode "Trophy Girl". I think I have the right
name. The one where the guy was going to make her part of his trophies. She
went undercover when she was off work, because it was the first time she shot
someone in the line of duty. From her very human reaction in the locker room
after the shooting to her determination to get away and her saving Nick's life,
showed to me, that she really did have the instincts to be a good cop.

For Lacroix it would have to be "Ashes to Ashes" because it shows so much of
why he is the way he is.

Urs' would be the episode with the character with the split personality and one
was a vampire and the others didn't know. It shows why Urs is the way she is
as well. I can't think of the name of the ep.

"Black Buddha" would have to be Vachon. It shows so much of his character and
how he came to be where he is now. But I also think "Fever" is good for him,
because it shows his feelings for Screed.

Lets see, Natalie. "Undue Process" would definitely be one. I think it
showed the ethics that she believes in. I also like "Be My Valentine" and
"Only the Lonely" because it shows the Nick and Nat relationship that almost
was.

Jeanette would be "A Fate Worse than Death" for it definitely shows what has
made her into the vampire she is today.

Ok. Schanke would be "Hunters" and "Partners of the Month". I think "Hunters"
shows that Schanke is a good cop. "Partners of the Month" has some of his
family relationship but shows his and Nick's friendship as well.

Save Nick for last. His is a three parter. <g>
"Queen of Harps" for showing him before he was made a vampire. Naive and
idealistic. It also showed part of what led him to become a vampire.
"Dance by the Light of the Moon" and "Dark Knight" show the dark side of him,
the vampire.
"Hunted" and "Dying for Fame" I think show the the human side of him.
"Hunted" shows what he would do to rescue a friend and "Dying for Fame" shows
his longing to fit in. To be part of the human race again.

There you go. My two cents worth. That was tough. <g> But fun, Phylis.

That would be Heart of Darkness.

Subject: FK Bears

I can't remember who on the list is making a collection of FK bears through
"Build-A-Bear", but last they posted they were having trouble finding a
leather jacket for their Nick bear. My local "Build-A-Bear" tells my that
there will be one in their fall clothing line. They say to keep checking
the website to see when they'll be in.

When I went to Stratford last year to see Ger in My Fair Lady I walked into a
Christmas shop. They had bears there. Their knitted sweaters had names on
them. I couldn't resist buying the Nicholas and Natalie Bears. They are a
nice momento of my time in the beautiful city and bring back memories of seeing
the play and meeting Ger.
