Hey all. Remember I asked a couple of weeks ago about FK sprites? Well, I
couldn't find a full compliment of characters, so ... I made my own. I
think they're adorable. Check them out!

   http://www.ScreedWasHere.com/screed/

They're all the way down at the bottom of the page -- under More Crap and
Other Crap.

While I was at it, I drew the Ratpack and some of their known-associates (or
should that be victims?), with their kind permission and approval, of course.

It wasn't her gown so much I was curious about it was the cape, or
whatever she wore over top of it. she didn't have that part of her outfit
on during their wedding night. Yet she does wear it as a ghost.

Warning to all. Today I received a message in my Inbox that was sent apparently
by myself according to the header. I did NOT send it. I'm told I've been
'spoofed'. No idea how this is possible or what to do about it. But I'm
warning everyone I know NOT to open any attachments coming from 'me' as I did
not send them. I will never send attachments.

Right now I am so frustrated with everything that I am seriously considering
giving up the internet completely. Lately, it has become nothing but a

i had a thought today... yes, that is odd. But, all three male vamps
(Lacroix, Nick, Vachon) were soldiers and Janette and Urs were, "women
oppressed" or in trouble. Divia was a 'woman' who was dying or very ill. i
didn't think too much more into it, but thought it would be an interesting
topic to throw out. Are are the women vamps 'victims' who need to be
rescued? Admittedly, the woman who brought Vachon and the Inca across
seemed pretty stable. (could this be inspired by the Tracy = victim post).
There was the leper Nick brought across, also in trouble. This post brought
to you by four hours sleep and the letter V.

one of those could be from me to show you how easy it is to do what you are

perfect for Nick, and the Meatloaf music video even has the singer as a

The entire UF would first waste time making lame jokes about screwing in
lightbulbs ... and other things; then the faction would divide into two
groups: the larger one of volunteers offering to change the bulb, the better
to see Nick and LaCroix, and a much smaller group (possibly a group of 1

Isn't there an update feature in your antivirus software that checks the website

Here is a good page that explains what spoofing/forging headers is.
One thing to keep in mind is that it's not always because of a virus,
but sometimes it can just be the stupid spammers. About the only thing
you can do about it is to get antivirus software and not open
attachments, especially if the file extensions look weird or are
executables like .exe or .vbs types or have a fake masking extension
meant to fool older computers like .doc.exe, .jpg.vbs, and so on.

Delurking after a very, very long time to say . . maybe <g>.

Were Vachon and Urs definitely her first 2 vampire victims? If not its
possible that she was able to tell from the blood of others that there was a
close connection to Nick thereby linking them to LaCroix.

Or they simply could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time (or would
that be wrong place/right time .. very confusing, that.) And Divia presumed
that because they had both spent the night at the Raven (in LaCroix' office)
they were "close."

Probably because they were close to Nick, and she wanted to hurt him
too. Also, I got the impression that Divia was very jealous of Nick
and his relationship to LaCroix, especially since Nick himself didn't
want LaCroix's attention and she did. Does that make any sense?

Yeah, but Vachon was "related" to Nick in only the most peripheral of ways:
he was Nick's partner's um, "friend." There was no blood connection that my
tired brain can recall. I just figured she was going after anyone who had
the misfortune to be seen hanging out with/near Nick. Not much of a torment,
going after casual acquaintances, but she sure helped TPTB cut back on
payroll costs, didn't she?? :-(

See, it's stuff like this that makes me think that the latter half of the
third season was all Nick's bad dream, brought on by blood tainted with Mad
Cow Disease. It doesn't have to make sense, it just has to be hurtful to
Nick. ;-)

Speaking of AtA on through LK (which I was, kinda): now when a series is in
danger of cancellation, my friend and I always wonder if the
writers/producers/et al are "going to pull an FK" and start killing off the
main cast. Grrrrrrrrr.

They were in LC's office at a time when the Raven was closed to the public
so that may have looked like they were both close to LC. Also there is
the possability that Urs was LC's mistress. (There is *some* evidence
to suggest that she was.) If Urs had that connection to LC then she'd
have been "close" and perhaps Vachon got targeted too since he's her
"vampiric father".

Well, in the days they were brought across, being a
soldier was the main occupation for a man, especially
if one wanted to see something of the world. Either
that or farmer/ artisan. For memebers of the
aristocracy either soldier or cleric, so it doesn't
strike me as that unusual.
Women were oppressed by society until way into the
twentieth century as well. Then Janette and Urs were
women of the night, that means they weren't 'locked
up' in a house all day and had the chance to get in
contact with vampires, so was Divia as she was a
prostitutes daughter, her house was open to strangers.

Enough rambling,

When I first heard (on forkni) the mistress theory, my reaction was *what?*
until I thought about it a bit. It seems like TPTB created the character
of Urs specifically to be LC's mistress. She is looking for a father figure
(we know from her HOD flashback) and LC has a fixation on "being the
father". They both have a psychological need that the other fills which
could make a very strong attachment.

I doubt Screed was a soldier--merchant marine, maybe? Don Constantine was a
"family man," which certainly didn't mean he didn't get into the occasional
"war," but he wasn't officially military. I think the writers just had a
fond spot for the "gallantry" of the soldier persona--chivalry, romance,
all that crud that folds nicely into the vampire myth. (Of course, LaCroix
as a mortal solider was neither chivalrous nor romantic, but we'll let that
pass. <g>)

>and Janette and Urs were, "women oppressed" or in trouble.

Francesca, though, was apparently a noblewoman--I got the impression that
her estate was hers *before* LaCroix brought her across. Ellen/Jacqueline
apparently got to be a vampire the way most folks pick up an STD--by
playing around with the wrong bed buddy--but that was a "lifestyle choice,"
not a vocation. Erica didn't strike me as having had a checkered past, but
the writers were ambiguous. The Baroness's only "trouble" was a fear of
growing old; otherwise, she seemed to be leading a good life. But you do
have a point that FK's writers/producers seemed to have a fondness for
female characters that required rescuing; I guess we're back to the
chivalry and romance aspect again.

De-lurking with great apprehension.
Questions?:

If Divia went after those who were "close" to
LaCroix, i.e. Vachon, Urs,
why didn't she go after Tracy when she saw
her with Vachon?
Why didn't she go after Natalie?
(I don't remember if she saw Nick with Nat or
not)
But after attacking Nick and drinking his blood
she would have seen how close they were.
If she assumed that Vachon and Urs were close
to LaCroix and it would cause him pain to lose
them, wouldn't she also think that losing the
two mortal women that were close to Vachon
and Nick might also cause him pain?

Sorry for the rambling on and on.....

I don't think she was going after Nick at all in the beginning. She was
saving him for the "coup de grace". She wanted to make LaCroix suffer,
worry, anguish or whatever before she killed Nick and finally him.

Weren't Vachon & Urs in the Raven when Urs felt and saw the "young girl"
she described to LaCroix? Since they were pretty comfortable on the
couch, it's possible that Divia assumed they were closer to LaCroix than
they were.

Also, since Urs had "seen" her it's also possible that Divia was
covering her tracks at the same time she thought she was killing those
close to LaCroix. Even if they weren't linked to him or among his
closest acquaintances, I don't think Divia would admit she made a
mistake and change her plan.

Besides, how many people WERE close to LaCroix? Just showing her father
that she could get to people he knew might have satisfied step 1 of her
plan.

She saw them remain at the Raven after hours, in LC's
office and/or quarters as I recall, I can see why she
would assume that they were part of his inner circle.

Also, getting into fanfic and cheese, we really don't know (other than Nick
and Jeanette) who was close to LaCroix. Of course not in the same way, but he
may have occasionally "socialized" (using the term losely) with other
vampires who amused him on some level.

Personally, I always thought there was a lot to that scene in Ashes to Ashes
where LaCroix enters and finds Urs sitting with Vachon.
Urs immediately gets up and says "It's not what you think. I asked him to
be here." Or something to that effect. To my mind this tells me:
- Vachon is not usually there, but Urs certainly is
- Urs feels the need to 'explain things' very quickly

Yeah, I'm in the LaCroix/Urs camp.

The attacks on Urs and Vachon were designed to show what could, and
would, happen to Nick and then to Lacroix. They were attacked first
*because* they were unimportant; Divia planned to escalate from there
for maximum impact on LC.
