While watching Tracy get in trouble yet again in Trophy Girl I tried
to calculate the number of times Tracy had to be rescued and came up
with the following incidences:
Black Buddha. Vachon rescues her from Vudu
Outside the Lines held at knife point.
My Boyfriend is a Vampire held at gunpoint. earlier nearly knifed on the
street
Hearts of darkness knocked unconscious.
Trophy girl kidnapped by murderer. though Maybe one should cancel this
one since she does save Nick in the end
Let No Man Tear Asunder.. Rescued by Nick in fight with tatooed man. Later
caught at clinic. Able to free herself because doctor hears and is
distracted by Nick's arrival.
Night in Question Nick saves her yet again.
After that except for Dead of Night where Nick has to stop her from
being hit by a car she seems to smarten up . Until last Night where
she is "killed" trying to back up her partner
With that track record maybe her daddy was right to want her to transfer
to Corporate Crime.

In fact, you might even say that LaCroix did as he could've had Schanke for
breakfast when Schanke confronted him about Nick being a vampire. Instead,

Well maybe he did try and it was cut from the script for time.. LOL. Its

One problem I had with the show was that both partners were amazingly
ineffectual at times. Was it because they would have to be to not realize
that something was very odd about Nick, or just to provide a little comic
relief? I liked both Schanke and Tracy, but sometimes I wondered how either
one survived basic training.
In my universe, I'd give Nick a good partner, and make the show a little
more of a honest-to-goodness detective series. But then, I'm a cop show
junkie. <g> A funky (but very stylish) "Fanged in Toronto" version of NYPD
Blue sounds like loads of fun to me!

I do wish writers would credit us with more intelligence and at least
*mention* why the obvious solution won't work. A throwaway line about how
her heart rate stayed steady, or something to that effect, would have made
all the difference here to me.
And, for the record, I'm one of those who wants to see the reload (or
whatever), especially if it's in the middle of something as critical as
combat. It's got nothing to do with my intelligence. Having the hero (or
villain) just shoot on and on without reloading breaks my ability to suspend
disbelief, especially when *not* reloading would have had disastrous
consequences. It's another thing that doesn't have to take a lot of
time--heck, it can be done during exposition, while he's ducking bullets,
whatever. And here I am, talking about suspending my disbelief when
discussing a show about a vampire detective. Sheesh!
Gee, two "wish they'd done better" posts in a row. Hmm. Gotta think of
something positive. How about this: I loved the fact that two of the main
supporting characters (Nat and Janette) were both strong, smart women who
could be attractive without silicon 38DD's hanging out of their low-cut
blouses. They were sexy without ever becoming sex objects. Very cool.

Part of the idea of the lying is that the person cares if they are lying.
they have to feel some amount of regret or remorse or shame.... that is what
causes the rise in heart rate , perspiration and breathing.
Those who are really really good at fooling the polygraph simply put, have
absolutely no remorse, regrets or snything akin to a concious, or have
trained their bodies to the point of being able to completely control all
autonomical functions.
IT is easy to fail the polygraph though... Thinking back to when she was
being used as a demonstation and the officer asked me if i liked and boys in
my class.... SHEESHHHH!!!! Did I fail that, and I didint even like any like
that! LOL

To play devil's advocate, I think the difference in
Schanke and Tracy's nature as cops is in the reason
the characters were written. IMO Schanke was written
to be a partner for Nick, with the only ulterior
motive to provide occasional comic relief. Tracy was
written to try to pander to the male, 18 to 25
demographic. It's been discussed on list before how
the writing for Natalie's character suffered over the
course of the show, I think the writing for Tracy's
character started out suffering. To be honest though,
to me it was never just the writing of the character,
but often the actress' delivery that bugged me.

We have limits on the disk at PSU which holds posts for the digest. We also have
people with space limits on there mail boxes. That's why we have the two rules
I'm about to yell at the list over. I'm also reminding the list that the rules
are enforced when necessary.
Guys, we are having an epidemic of overquoting. On Forkni-l, quotes from the
post you're answering must be no more than four lines per point answered. Quote
four lines, comment, then if necessary quote another four lines and commnent.
If you can't narrow it down to four lines, paraphrase.
The four lines includes anything your mailer program adds to quoted mail. Don't
quote the previous poster's sig file.
I send out the rules every Sunday. Anyone who's been here over a Sunday is
responsible for knowing and keeping the rules. Please, please, don't make it
necessary for me to start setting overquoters to review until I receive an
undertaking to keep the rules.
Allowance is made for mailers which break lines in unexpected places and
miscounts. But this quoting of whole posts has to stop.
Another rule limits sig files to 6 lines. That means everything, starting from
your name and including blank lines between lines, quotations and decorations.
Again, please, please don't make me start having to set people who persistently
use more than six lines of sig file to review until I receive an undertaking to
keep the rules.
Allowance is made for accidental use of sig files for other lists. It's the
persistent use of oversize files that has to stop.
For the vast majority of posters, who have always kept the rules or just had the
occasional mistake, thank you very, very much.

Brief emergence from lurkdom, here, and **Good Morning, Folks!!** :o)
One of my favorite episodes of Tracker will air again on April 4th at 10:00
PM. (Tracker, which the Sci Fi Channel began advertising as "With
Highlander's Adrian Paul and Forever Knight's Geraint Wyn Davies;" oh, oops,
now I typed that I think I remember seeing it here before--we all noticed
they pronounced Ger's name incorrectly <grrrr>; at least they are advertising
it, though!). <--That sentence looks horrid; oh well, too early to be
grammatically correct, LOL.
Anyhooooooo, "The Miracle" (ep # 13 of 22 of Tracker) has lots of Ger in it,
and will air on the date above on the Sci Fi Channel. I confess I was
searching for it because my VCD's are missing a good copy of that one! So,
the hiatus for Tracker isn't as long as I thought, and YAHOO, Forever Knight
is back on at 9:00 am on Sci Fi. Yes, I know everyone knows that, I was just
excited to see it :>D

Over the course of FK's 3 seasons, the character of Natalie became what a lot
of viewers interpreted as shrill and nagging. She went from a self-confident,
strong woman to one who appeared to consider suicide as a valid way out of
problems in Last Knight. It was as if the writers wanted to reduce her to a
more traditional female role--clingy, needy, and so on.
The Nat we came to admire from the first season, who had the guts to stand up
to a vampire and the intelligence to be an ME, disappeared. I don't think it's
a coincidence that this happened mostly in third season, when USA actually
wanted to get rid of the character, because they thought that CD (and DD, for
that matter) was too old and not attractive enough to entice their desired
demographic (overhormoned boys who only want to see bouncing breasts) to watch.
So they brought in Tracy and Vachon to appeal to the "if they're over 25 they
must be dead" demographic and devalued Natalie. Thank God GWD put his foot down
to the proposed romance between Nick and Tracy, and said he'd quit if they
fired CD.

LaCroix would love the pure irony of it. I believe Lucien means "light," so
his full name would mean something along the lines of "light of the cross."
It would appeal to his twisted sense of humor and his belief in nothing but

Well, Nigel Bennett once said at a con that it was a sick joke.
Here's my theory, for fanfic purposes:
We know that Lucius/LaCroix was particularly brutal toward conquered enemies.
The Romans often crucified large numbers of the defeated, especially if they
were rebels. (Lucius lived to late to have fought in the original Gallic wars.
There was a rebellion in Gaul in his time which could be what they're talking
about.)
Roman men's names have three elements. The praenomen corresponds to our first
names. In this case, Lucius is his praenomen. The nomen is like our family
names. We don't know Lucius's nomen for certain. However, it is possible that it
was Divius. We don't know Selene's nomen, but it's very possible that she was
Lucius's freedwoman or a freedwoman of his family. Most Roman prostitutes were
slaves. (It does say in the script for A More Permanent Hell that the
flashbacks take place in a brothel and that Selene is the madam.) As a
freedwoman or the daughter of freedmen, Selene would have the nomen of the
person who freed her. Her full name would be Divia Selene. That explains
Divia's name. Women's names take slightly different rules at this period but
it's perfectly normal for Divia Selene's child, who would be another Divia, to
be called by the nomen. It might even be her only name. Note: Whether the nomen
comes first or last in a woman's name was not fixed in this period.
The third element, for a man, was the cognomen. This is a nickname which might
be hereditary in the family, or it might be individual to the man. It was
possible to have more than one. A few men didn't use a cognomen.
If Lucius was notorious for crucifying the vanquished, he might have acquired
the cognomen "Crucifictor," "the Crucifier" or maybe "Crux," "the cross." That
would make his full name Lucius Divius Crucifictor or Lucius Divius Crux. When
surnames came into use again in Europe in the Middle Ages, he could then have
used the closest French form, "LaCroix." He had already adopted Lucien, which is
the French form of Lucianus, as a given name instead of Lucius (which wasn't
used in French at that time.)
BTW, LaCroix as a French surname comes from living near a cross.

I think I'll always have a soft spot for Tracy-- I started watching FK about
halfway through the third season and got to know her for what she was: an
overconfident rookie trying to prove herself. When the series started over
again, my first thought upon seeing Schanke was "Wait a minute, where's Tracy?
Who is this putz?" It took me a while to get use to him.

First, I must give some background as to how this post came
about. The story might be little longer than some people might
like, for which I sincerely apologize in advance, and one or two
of my details might indeed be unnecesary, but everything will
make at least a little more sense with it. Besides, then those of
you who think this entire post is idiotic will know who, besides
me, they have to blame for my feeling required to send it. (TSR,
specifically the AD&D people; my dear, darling older brother and
for the first one whoever started the current threads on wars and
factions.)
The other night, I was copying some papers by our computer while
my brother was reviewing his Ravenloft message board, and for
some reason he decided that I needed to hear some of the jokes
that had recently been posted. Some of them he called 'old
chestnuts', which I'm sure most, if not all, of you know
basically means an old joke thatalmost everybody has heard but
that refuses to leave circulation. This one happened to be a
lightbulb joke. Now, being so obsessed with Forever Knight that I
have to try to find a way to make almost everything that happens
either to me or around me FK-related somehow (I usually fail), I
started to wonder if if we (the fandom) had any 'old chestnuts'
of our own that I didn't know about (I've only been on the lists
for under two years), or, if we didn't, how to find some jokes
that we could put into circulation so that they could eventually
develop into old chestnuts.
I don't have the jokes, or rather, I dont't have the punchlines.
I'm going to ask you two questions in the hopes that the rest of
you (or at least some of you) will post really funny answers (and
maybe a few more questions). The first one came to me
immediately. If you've been reading this carefully and you have
very good deductive reasoning skills, you might already have some
idea of what it is. The second one I thought of a little later

1) How many members of each faction does it take to change (or,
if you prefer, screw in) a lightbulb, and why?
2)What's the cheesiest reason you can think of why the writers
named both Captain Stonetree and Captina Reese Joe? (By the way,
if anyone has a clue what the *real reason was, could you email
me offlist?)
P.S. If anyone thinks that this was a stupid post, or that I have
wasted your valuable time either by sending it or by making it so
long, please do not reply and tell me so. I have spent over two
*hours* of *my* precious time composing and typing this, trying
to get it just right, in order to give even a few of our fellow
listmembers a laugh, and my self-esteem was never very high to
begin with.

Subject: Combined response and a couple of questions
My experience was the opposite of Meghans....I started
watching with Queen of Harps so it was kind of a shock
when he was on for several eps and then boom....no
more Schanke. It took me a while to get used to Tracy.
I'm actually starting to develop an aversion to the
whole third season LOL....it's too different from 1
and 2.
Now the questions
LaCroix: My one nitpick about those flashbacks is that
I watched a program on Pompeii on Discovery Science
and they said that the eruption started around
noon...it is entirely possible they would still be
there because not all of the citizens left right away
and some didn't want to leave at all...I don't think
the pyroclastic flow (really superheated air and ash)
would have started yet, but stuff would've already
been raining down...would they have still had all
those goings on that night? (BTW if Divia had grown up
and not got brought over, she'd have been a prostitute
too because her mother was one, right?)
2. Knight in Question: If the woman in HoD could live
as a mortal when she was her mortal personalities, why
couldn't Nick live as a mortal when he didn't know
what he was? I don't get why she went out in daylight
but he couldn't. We did see him eating, though.

She reminded me of what I've been pondering lately
whilst sitting here computerless. I'll throw 'em out
and see what happens
1. If the characters had bumper stickers (we know Nick
would never let anything on his precious Caddy, but
let's pretend)what would they say? I can just see Nat
with "I see dead people" and LaCroix with the hulk
line "Don't get me angry, you won't like me when I'm
angry" Or how about vanity plates?
Factions' bumper stickers anyone?
2. I don't know where this came from: if the gang were
animals, which animals would they be?
3. This stuck in my head from a Vampire: The
Masquerade site I went to by mistake while looking for
humor. What do you think the factions' no trespassing
signs would say? hm...Cousins: Trespassers will become
Uncle's midnight snack?
Character no trespassing signs?
This may not get anywhere, but I thought I'd put 'em
out to mull over and come up with stuff...who knows,
it might be funny.
