Just letting everyone know I'm back from no-computer
land finally. I've been keeping up with Scifi though I
can't watch every day. I did see Nigel in Do or Die
and on Lexx....they started over but I don't know when
Prince will surface again. I'll have to check the
tvnow.com schedule. No fic to offer at the moment, but
I can start typing it again.

Hi,

Does the war go on at all hours? I would like to play, but due to my work,
I tend to be nocturnal.

Then you're in luck. It seems like the majority of the interesting things
during a war are done at hours that appeal to the night owls... hmm.. think
that's coincidence that Fk fans like to stay up late?

Is there a Cousins list specifically?

I don't believe that there's an *active* cousins list during non-war times.
(Correct me if I'm wrong.) During a war they have a list specifically for
fkwar activites.

It runs 24x7 and as I live in Melbourne Australia it sometimes
makes it interesting, I usually take time off work for the war if
given sufficient warning, then I have a pot of coffee and snacks
and a packet of aspirin ready you'll understand when you've been in
a war it's stressful and fun at the same time and after the war you
swear never again but you will and be looking forward to the next
one, I have done two fkwars and always swear it will be my last one
    till the next one starts.

Indeed there is, although they're usually pretty quiet. Last War, it was
decided that factions needed a minimum number of members (was it 4 or 5?)
and had to have participated in previous Wars in order to exist... so this
Celtic Glow Worm ended up officially playing with the Die-Hards (and
unofficially stuck at the Fiendish Glow for all days and hours while the
Vampbear... went on adventure).

BTW, the Vampbear -- formally known as Nicolas de Bearbant -- is a vampire
teddy bear of sorts who was designed to look like Ger. He's as "real" as
any stuffed animal is, in a Raggedy Ann-Raggedy Andy sort of way... I love
writing the Vampbear's POV because he always misinterprets things and
because he writes/recites in a stream-of-consciousness manner and does
things that I wouldn't dare...

One of the things I've loved about participating in Wars is that depending
on what sort of pickle you (or a character you're writing) gets thrown in,
you end up having to do a lot of fast research to get a detail right (or
find out how to fudge an already-written incorrect detail). Last War, I
ended up finding out a *lot* about the Salvation Army because Arletta and
Shiela put the Vampbear in a Salvation Army Teddy Bear Lost-and-Found Drop
Box. (This sort of thing does not exist in real life, BTW.) The previous
War, rats were running rampant over Toronto, and I had to research what
sort of rats they might be and how fast they might be multiplying so the
Celtic Glow Worms and Tequila Fiends could protect the Fiendish Glow from
them...

Another bit of advice: if you're going to participate in a War, set up
messaging/chat clients: IRC, AIM, and/or something similar. Most
collaborating happens near-real-time on Messaging Clients.

That all said and done, while I've had fun participating in previous Wars,
I'm not sure I'll be able to find enough time this time around...

well, almost. I am willing, but not ready.
as for peoples questions about fractions,
I tend to use this website as my guide:
http://www.geocities.com/tserisa/forkni/affiliations.html
it is missing some of the newest ones, but most of the main ones are listed. Not
all of them war.
One of the best things for a newbie to do is read through a war...
The last war (war 11) is readable at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fkwararchive/
I have been thought two wars. War 11 I was the "falling" co-leader of the Dark
Perks. War 10 I lent myself out to the Dark Perks.. I *still* have not found out
where I ended up... (RL kept me from partaking more activly, I was staying at
the hospital with my older sister... I read e-mails every great once in a while
when we stuck into the medical libary there...)
My family things I am crazy when I start telling them war stories. Nevertheless
the fact that I am one of the ones that hug my family goodbye, and hole myself
into my bedroom (And War is also why I got a cordless keyboard and mouse..)
So yes, be aware that War takes *a lot* of time, but then again, the wars
themselves only last two weeks... (of course, most Start to buy coffee
wholesale)
Sorry, I am rambling now...

It IS a time consuming event, take my word for it. However, in this last war
I was doing all the writing and REALLY strapped for time. If I recall
correctly, not only was I working, but I was in a night time play or had
rehearsals. Most of what I did was write very short, very quick posts and
sort of supervised some others. I, and the other Ratpackers, were also
written into other factions' stories since we are part of the Mercenaries,
plus pretty popular since was are just so darn adorable.

*THWAMP*

ouch - (#*%&(#&% rolled up newspaper!

We are somewhat popular because if you really want to screw things up, invite
in the Ratpack. In those cases, the other faction writer usually wrote us or
I just wrote a very basic dialogue outline.

I stayed up late writing some posts, and also got up very early a few times
just to write.

If I'm not mistaken, there may be some war posts at www.screedwashere.com

Subject: Admin: Forkni-l -- Read Rule 4

We've had a number of posts lately when replies that were really meant for
just the person who sent the post which the writer was answering. Please
look at rule 4. Posts that are meant to answer just one person need to go
off list to that person. This is why it's a good idea to put your name and
address at the bottom of your posts. Otherwise a lot of Forkni-l subscribers
don't know who you are or how to contact you. This is because not all mailer
programs show your name and address in the headers. Some just show the mail
as from Forkni-l and give the list address.

Thanks!
