I am horrified! Were they trying to combat the Gateway Cow and got it
wrong? And to think I am surrounded by llama-murderous machinery!
Dimension system at home! Optiplex at work! Latitude on road! How will
I ever be able to write software procedures again with a clear
conscience?

I wonder, is Lacroix a major Dell stockholder? Hmmm...

I've been a lurker here for many years under a few email addys (didn't
have my own 'puter for years and then had to abandon some addy due to
massive spam) I just refound the lists and figured I was the only one
left who was still interested in the show.. I know, I know silly me. But
I really, REALLY didn't need to have the visual of a bunch of poor nekkid
llamas with Screed's head and fangs...

I think I need to not read my mail before I have coffee...

Sorry this was so long, my excuse is the whole no coffee thing.. I'm
gonna go back to reading old wars and IVing my coffee now...

Screed nekkid on a Llama nekkid... and to control wild nekkid Llama
rider(s?) would be Lacroix holding a riding crop... nekkid.

*faints*

just like I did last week (but for entirely different reasons),

Subject: Nick's family

Hi-
I was just musing this morning and I began to wonder.... does Nick
have an older brother? I am just curious because in those days in
the wealthier landholding families (Which Nick seems to be a part of)
the first born (or only) son would inherit the entire estate.
At the age of 25-35, which I figure is the age span that we see Nick
as a mortal, if he were the only son he would not have been trapsing
around the countryside with DeLaBarre. He would have been managing
the estate, especially since it seemed as though his father wasn't
present. Usually the younger sons were put into the priesthood, the
military, or attached to some other family in someway, since they had
no hope of inheriting the estate.
Just curious if this is canon (I couldn't find anything), or if
someone had done some fanfic or something.

The more fool him then, all he got from Llama Bons
was cotton fuzz.

This little llama-speak fix has me wanting more. Will
there be a Valetines Season of Unreason story?

Inheritance wasn't as simple or straightforward in medieval times as history
texts often teach it. (They often simplify the feudal system similarly,
drawing an image of a nice neat pyramid with the king at the top. The only
place things were that simple in Nick's time was England, and that was
because William the Conqueror appropriated the whole country in 1066 and
then re-distributed it, so to speak, to his vassals.) Elsewhere, feudal
relationships were tremendously complex--it was quite possible to owe fealty
to more than one person--and required an equally complex and constantly
growing body of legal precedent to govern priorities and settle disputes.

Primogeniture was not the rule in the beginning of the Middle Ages; it
developed over time, and inheritance laws and customs varied from place to
place and were as complex as feudal practice.

Also, in Nick's time, women had more property rights (and
responsibilities--including running multiple estates while their husbands
were off fulfilling feudal obligations or going on crusade) than they were
allowed in the later Middle Ages.

Barring some other agreement (what we would think of as a pre-nup) as a
widow, his mother would not only have retained all of the property she
brought with her to the marriage and anything bestowed on her by her
husband, she would also have been entitled to one-third of her husband's
property at his death.

One theory that has been around on the list for a long time is that Nick and
Fleur are the children of a second marriage. If so, he could be his mother's
heir.

Subject: FK parody news of the (atomic) mousie/ratsie sort

Posted with McLisa's encouragement....

Some of you know I write comic books. My first were with art by the noted
comic book artist Joe Staton (currently he does a lot of Scooby Doo covers,
has done Guy Gardner, Green Lanter, Metal Men, E-Man, Batman, and so forth).
We've been friends for years and wanted to work together again. We'd get lots
of "bites" (so to speak), but no one would actually hire us together.

Until a science fiction convention last September when I was on a panel with
publisher of Shanda Fantasy Arts (Shanda the Panda, Furry Ninja High School,
and other "furry comics" www.shandafantasyarts.net). When he heard my
frustration, a lightbulb went off over his head. (Quite a site to see....)
Seems Joe was doing some cover art for them and had offered to actually
illustrate a story.

One of their comic books is ATOMIC MOUSE. Published by Charlton Comics long
ago, they'd just brought the title back. Hmmm.... I thought. LibRATsie...
Atomic Mouse....

YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!! *happy ratsie dance* Yep, I was asked to write the story
for Joe to illustrate.

I submitted a number of ideas, and just because I couldn't stop laughing over
the ratsie/mouse connection, included "FK Parody."

That's the one they had me write.... And it IS a parody. heheheh<g>

The script was approved today and has been e-mailed to Joe. The TENTATIVE
publication date is July 2003 in Atomic Mouse #3 by Shanda Fantasy Arts
(SFA). This WILL be solicited in Diamond Distribution's Preview from which
comic book stores order. It is usually listed in the catalogue several months
in advance. Please keep in mind the date could change as the art hasn't even
been started yet and it depends on Joe's schedule. But if you are the comic
book buying sort, be sure to start asking your local comic book store to
order you this comic!

(If sales soar, maybe they'll let me write more stories for them....)

I'll let you know if I find out about any publication changes.

Screed is NOT, unfortunately, in the parody as it is only 9 or 10 pages long
and I had to use Nick and LaCroix (also Natalie). Uhr... Actually, I didn't
actually use them as it is a parody so the names have been changed. You might
say I abused the concept of their characterizations. But I did take one of
the characters and suggest it be drawn more like Screed than I normally would
have <g>
