On the subject of whether or not the intended vampire has to be given vampire
blood first, Screed said, "Sometimes h'if ya don't lick the platter clean...."

Plus, LaCroix wasn't sure if he'd brought across Jack the Ripper or not, if I
recall the episode correctly-like.

Subject: FK encounter

I stopped at the local Pathmark on the way home from work today to
pick up some things (rubber gloves, paper plates and oreos - don't
laugh I'm making christmas candies!!!)
Anyhoo... I was wearing my FK jacket and the checkout lady asked "Are
you a fan of that show?"
I was like WOW! And I told her I was surprised that she had heard of
it. She answered by saying "Yeah, it's on scifi at 11am"
So I told her how I went to Stratford this summer to see Ger. She
asked if I got to meet him and when I said yes, she asked if he was
nice, to which I also said yes.
Gee can you tell that I am excited. I have never met someone around
here that knew about FK!!!! Even my best friend (who is now a fan)
hadn't heard about it before I told her.
I was just grinning from ear to ear when I came out of the store!

I always found this episode confusing too. But one time I watched it
with the express purpose of figuring out if Schanke was in on the
secret. I decided that he probably was and that Nick explained
everything to him on the way over to meet Ann, after the scene in
the precinct when he tries to make amends with Schanke and says they
should work more closely together (I hope I'm remembering this
correctly). Schanke is surprised by Ann's outfit, but I don't think
he's surprised by the attack. When Nick asks him if he's okay, he
mutters something about having worn a turtleneck as protection.
(Maybe they stopped by Schank's house on the way over?) Wardrobe
seems to have forgotten to provide a turtleneck, but perhaps it is
concealed under his shirt (where it can't be much help, tucked down
so low....pass the cheese log; Don can wrap that around his neck--
make sure it is coated with plenty of nice, fortifying nuts!)

Nick's explanation to Schanke occurs off-screen because 1) it would
be boring and 2) they wanted to keep us in the dark. During the
whole episode we are made to wonder about Nick's motivations, just as
the other characters do and as Nick himself does. We are being
taught not to make assumptions, just as Nick finds that he must not
make any assumptions about Ann, the corporate lawyer. The effectiveness
of the episode depends on our not hearing the explanation. We must
be made to believe for one awful moment that Schanke has had his life
squeezed out of him.

Greetings,

Yes, I believe Schanke knew about the plan. They probably discussed in the
car on the way to Ann's. When Nick check's on Schanke after choking him,
Schanke actually mutters that he will wear turtle-necks in a way to cover
his choke markings. I think he was joking around with Nick here.
