Hi Y'all!
Well, hmmmm, I think I have a reputation but darned if I know what it is!
The evidence that I do have one comes from the Warmistress of War 11
herself. I was to be written into a particular story but the WM decided
it didn't fit into the war and also claimed that my war persona wouldn't
do something like that. I can only assume that the WM was someone who
"knew" me from previous wars or thought she did, which gives a reputation
of sorts. BTW, my persona has always been game to try new stuff in a war
and this would have sprung from that ummm, character flaw(?)<G>. Not
very colorful or interesting but there it is. So I guess you could say I
have a "war reputation."
I guess nowadays I'm just the birthday list keeper since I seldom post
anything else. The reputation I'd like to claim for that is that I'm
human and humans sometimes make mistakes. Kind of like I did last week
when I posted that "James Marsden" was Spike on BTVS. Actually, Spike is
played by James MARSTERS. I do have a lame excuse for those who might
require an explanation about how I could mistake one for the other. <G>
My brain was being muddled by a sinus infection. Sorry for the mix-up.
Now back to more colorful reputations and discussion!
And Libby, if the Ratpackers have any klew about what my reputation
is...please, keep it as a shiny pretty coz you're Screed-speak is
twisting my brain inside out trying to read it! <BG>

You mistook Roy Marsden for James Marsters? Hey, it can happen! After all, they
both play English poets involved in crime, right? (Roy Marsden plays Adam
Dalgliesh, the policeman/poet in PD James' stories shown on public television.)

Hello everyone...
I'm trying to figure out two things. For some reason, Mommy Brain has
decided to take over, and I can't remember which War I was in (it was only
one, and obviously not War 11). Maybe 10? That's one.

Humm. You know you have the knighties rep! You know, knighties are good.
Knighties are nice. Knighties never do anything as honery as making
'hot' chcocolate chip cookies :) We never do anything mean or evil. We
never ever try and drive poor LaCroix nuts the way we did last war :)
I am terrified to ask anyone what my war rep is. I know, bonkers. This
Knightie comes up with really odd things. The loft has *holes in the
floor* from mayhem I've written.
Oh, and please no war until summer. Pretty please? I have a 2 hour
comute each day, and am teaching everyday. This faction leader has no
time for war! I promise, I'll be goodish this war!

i have no reputation. But, i can start one with taking the credit for the
"how i got into FK" thread that created the "How i got my reputation
thread." Ah-hah! Okay, maybe not. Yes, i have been working way too much,
why do you ask? Here is a ramble: i recently got a copy of "Nick Knight"
and immediately watched DK I & II after it. i would recommend this to
folks. It's fun to see what they kept the same and what they subtly
changed. It was very exciting for me and i felt the need to share.
Question. In "Baby, Baby" Serena asks Nick if he would sacrifice a mortal
life if it would achieve his own mortality. Nick doesn't answer. So, i
wonder - would he - would he take just one more life if it meant getting his
back? Discuss.

Oooh, that's a toughie, IMHO. It's hard to say because in DK II he saved
Alyce instead of the cup, losing out on that shot at mortality, but it could
also be argued that he was lusting after her, and that's why he saved her.
Oh, the choices, the choices! LOL
I think he wouldn't do it. I think he'd rather find a way that would allow
him to not have to kill anyone.
And yes, yes, I hear all you Dark Knighties howling that he wouldn't mind
killing just one person if it would give him his mortality -- or that he
wouldn't bother because he'd be happy being a vampire at that point. :oD
Okay, now I'm the one rambling. I think it's time for me to make a run for
it. My my, I'm being posty today! Three posts today?? Wow... be afraid!

Ohhhh, that's a good question, which could be argued either way. I mean, you
could look at it and say, 'good of many over good of one': you know, kill one
more person so that no-one else will ever be in danger from you. But you have to
be a very emotionally rational person to get away with that, and Nick is shown
to be anything but emotionally rational. So I don't think he would.
So what was the 'LaCroix's Ultimatam' someone mentioned?

My first intro to FK is a bit unusual. I've never been a fan of vampires and
so, although I do vaguely recall reading about the show in the "new season"
issue of TV guide, I didn't seek it out.
Instead, I was a fan of Highlander - that is, until they killed off Tessa
(the main character's S.O.). I was quite upset that the PTB had done
that and it ruined the whole series for me. I esentially stopped watching,
at that point, what had been a fave series. I was complaigning about what
the PTB had done to a friend of mine. In an effort to "comfort" me, he
told me that there was another series that was similar but MUCH better.
He said it was only on TV late at night (and rather difficult to find)
and also that it took a little while to catch on but that it was
definately worth it. Of course, he was talking about FK.
The first episode I saw was "Curiouser and Curiouser" and yes, it
*was* a bit difficult to understand what was going on. Since I had
been warned about that, I perservered and watched more episodes.
They were initially even more confusing since all the "relationships"
established in that first ep had suddenly shifted. I watched as many
of the eps as I could find during the remainder of that season. It
was difficult since my local stations kept shifting the times that it
aired from week to week. And I didn't dare use a VCR since the actual
airing times often differed from the TV-Guide listings. I often fell
asleep during parts of the eps since they were on so late at night,
but I *did* eventually figure out the new (altered) relationships -- as
they differed from C & C.
I was shocked by the sudden departure of two characters in BB but by
then I was really hooked on the series. Shortly thereafter, I
was surfing the web and stumbled on a now defunct fanfic site and from
there found about forkni and the web sites protesting the cancellation
of the series. As soon as I got my own computer with a modem, I got online
and joined forkni. Less than a week later, I headed to Toronto for the
Shrewerthing. I began writing my own fanfic, played in war 7 and I've
been here ever since.
PS. When I did see C & C again on Sci-fi, it was amazing! And I understood
*why* I had had so much trouble understand the series in the beginning.

Guess that gives me a reputation as being the ‘most
misunderstood person’ in the fandom, judged, condemned and
flamed for voicing a personal opinion. I have to say, the
only thing I regret about that incident is the way I handled
the situation at that time: like a guilty whipping boy.
Nobody should have to apologize for voicing their own,
completely personal opinion, never mind how many people think
they should take it personally. Let that statement be my
reputation.

True, and unfortunately, many newcomers don’t share this
sense of homeliness with the old veterans. That could be why
so many of them go quiet after the initial introduction to
the list and join the hordes of lurkers. It might not be a
bad idea to jot down their names somewhere and inquire about
them every once in a while, just to make them speak up. Also,
come wartime, it won’t hurt to engage them a little more in
the action instead of shoving them to the side. You mentioned
my Italian cab driver from war 11. The reason I created that
character was because I needed something to write about when
none of the other factions wanted to play with our small
group of newbies. I wasn’t that surprised when the posts
weren’t archived, we were so far away from the main plot it
was only rational. How could any of us expect to get a
reputation? Believe me, it takes a lot more than writing day
and night to get noticed. And lets forget me and my twisted
reputation for a second. I know of people who are still
working very hard for the fandom without this list even
knowing their names (eg. People who maintain the SciFi
channel’s bboard discussions and keep them from disappearing
from the board, yes these people were in war 11) and I know
of people who have long left the fandom, yet their reputation
still hangs in the air like the scent of overdone cologne.
I think I just added another nasty piece to my missing
reputation. Ratpackers, if you want to trade something for
this ugly jumble of mishmash, please contact me at this
address. Don’t forget to bring Libs for translation.

First off, we were ALL new at one time. Part of becoming part of a group at
any time is you have to joined in ;-) There's lots of discussion threads that
can be started and even just joined in. If people don't post, we can't
remember them.
As for war, at least for the Ratpack, I shove no one aside unless they don't
try to actively participate. It is usually just Johnsie and I doing the
writing and there's only so much that we can write as we both work full time
jobs (plus, I freelance write AND act - leaving me no time to participate in
a War, but I manage). If you can't write (which is okay in a War), actively
make recommendations to the faction heads for various antics. Different
factions handle the way they manage war posts differently (in other words,
there's a good chance your posts and ideas will have to be approved), but you
never know what will be approved and live in infamy.
In fact, join one of the numerous forkni-l spin off lists. Most of mine are
extremely quiet, but you never know what fun will pop up.
So if any lurkers out there are saying, "I don't have a reputation because no
one likes me," don't hide behind your computer - POST! Ask a crazy FK
question. Not all of them will receive replies, but you never know which ones
will. Write some fan fic.
Besides, there's people who have been here MUCH longer than I have yet I just
noticed their posts during the "what attracted you to FK" thread because
they'd never posted before.
Also, my reputation was NOT received in War time. It was due to fan fic
*plus* forkni-l antics<g> You don't create a reputation, it just happens.
I mean, I am the one who discovered how much Screed and Natalie really love
each other! hehehehe

Just pick your faction, any time, and declare yourself on Forkni-l. Some
allow multiple allegiances, some don't. You can only play with one faction in
any given war. Some wars allow independent players. It's up to the war
mistress/master.

Was good seeing you, too. FK fans do indeed rock! I'm lamenting the fact
that I can't get to LCA AGAIN this year to hang out with everyone. It's
always SO much fun to see people you haven't seen in ages. *sigh* I need a
grant from Nick's foundation.
I've been reading about how everyone got started watching FK. I actually
saw "Dark Knight" when the show first started. Unfortunately, it was on
late, and I worked full time and had two small kids. Sleep sort of took
priority.
Fast forward a few years. My daughter was at home sick, so I stayed home
with her. I flipped on the Sci-Fi Channel, which was relatively new on our
cable service at the time, and I sort of recognized the people on the
screen. I was watching "Close Call," so it took a commercial break and a
return of the main title logo for me to realize that it was the same show
I'd seen and enjoyed before. I spotted LaCroix, and he was my vampire from
that moment on. The voice alone turned my insides to jello. Two days
later, I finally got to the store to buy some blank tapes and learned how to
program the VCR.
While doing an internet search for FK related things, I came across the
fkfanfic site. I saw a story I really enjoyed (sadly, I can't remember the
name of the story or the author's name at this point), sent some feedback to
the author, and she pointed me toward this list. Even though I don't post
much, I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the discussions, etc. The FK lists
I've been on have been more flame-free than the Disney lists of which I've
been a member. It's nice to know so many people from such diverse
backgrounds can get along as well as we do.

Even when I was really active in this fandom, I never posted all that much
here. I was shy -- heck, I even started an FK Wallflowers Faction for us
shy folk <g> We had a website and a list. But, being wallflowers, no one
actually posted! Most of my activity came from way too much of my life
spent on the FK IRC channel and having the opportunity to meet people in RL
early on. Syndicon West in early 96, and BtK the next year. Since then,
I've met up with people at cons, both media and book, and I've been to a
few LCA's. Mostly now, my contact with other FK fans is through other
fandoms where we've met up again.
I only actively participated in one war, and I can't remember the number.
The one where we got Cherri out of the cow suit -- that was my only
memorable moment <g> Most of the war Ninjababe, her backpack of doom, and
I, spent that war picking on the N&N Pack, and them on us. We had much fun!

The "reputation" thread, for me, has been pretty much tongue in cheek <g> I
*know* no one is lying awake at night wondering whatever happened to me!
(and if you are, let me know, will you??) Now a real reputation is
something like Cherri and cows. I saw her a few weeks back and she told me
she's *still* getting cow stuff from folks!
Yes, some people know me from my fanfic, but I write really niche stuff, so
I'm not on many "must read" lists <g> I never much liked Nick :), so all
my stories were LaCroix centric, and other than "Oaths" and its sequel,
everything else is crossovers in my own little universe -- another knell of
death! But I enjoy writing it, and a few folks like to read it, so I'm
happy. But definitely not the stuff reputations are made from!
Wow! I've posted more this week than I have in years! They'll take my
lurker card away <sniff> Seven years, and I'm still hanging around here.

That was me. War 9's basic plot was that Nat's notebook
detailing her progress for a cure to vampirism was
missing/stolen, so different factions were trying to track
it down, offering ransoms for its return, etc. I thought it
would be in character for LC to strongarm the proceedings,
and had him threaten to drain a nameless, faceless victim
each night if the notebook was not given to him for
Nick-taunting, etc. Note that this was not attacking player
characters. Nameless, faceless victims invented for the
plot, like an Alyce Hunter, 'the cup or the girl' type
scenario in Dark Knight. The reason I got to post this plot
move was I was part of the Cerebrus at the time, and the
WarMistress liked the idea. Once I posted it, though, some
players/factions took the ultimatum as a threat to them
personally, while others did not. There was a great deal of
conflict over which factions would leave the War if the post
was allowed to stay, while there were others who had ideas
to resolve the story post with their own ideas, moving the
war forward.

I have a couple of questions in regards to today's episode on Scifi. Does any
one know if the books that Schanke had on his desk about vampires actualy
exist? The second one is: When he starts making notes about Nick and names him
John Doe, does anyone know what the 199 after that means or is it just there?
I had thought maybe it referred to case number maybe. Just curiosity on my
part. Nothing deep today. :) I am enjoying all the stories. My only
reputation comes from my nieces. They think I am twisted for my interest in
vampires and FK.

I'm not sure about that, but notice that one of them
is 'The Denied', Emily Weiss' book from Stranger than
Fiction?
Also, in the ending, does Schanke still think Nick is
a vampire, or what? I'm confused as to whether he
still believes it or not.

This is a bit late, but thanks so kindly for being so
welcoming. I often tend to get nervous until I've
learned the ropes of a list after a bad experience on
a list related to another fandom. I'm always worrying
