Subject: What a trip!

I signed off for the summer, since I was going on a long trip to eastern
Canada. And what a trip! My itinerary included the Archives of Ontario
(just across Grenville Street from the Coroner's Building), Union
Station (loved seeing the city names chiseled in the walls), the CN
Tower (& its scary open-air observation area), Royal Ontario Museum
(seen in the pilot--it was pretty cool to picture Nick & Schanke's first
meeting), and a little side trip to the Loft, which apparently is no
longer slated for conversion into condos. Thanks again to Marg Yamanaka
for giving me the address for the Loft. I also got more familiar than I
wanted to be with the 401 freeway, and if they can find me to bill me
for the new 407 (electronic toll road), I just might pay! I took the
subway from Casa Loma to Union Station. Did an FK episode ever use the
subway for a setting (aside from Union Station)? I don't remember one...

I also spent some time in Montreal and Quebec City. While I was waiting
in a laundromat, I picked up some old Sept Jours magazines--a kind of
Quebecois version of People--and read about a new vampire movie, filmed
& set in Montreal. Karmina 2 (K2 for short) was a sequel to the wildly
successful comedy Karmina, done five years earlier. So naturally I
tracked it down on DVD (dubbed in English). It was hilarious, and it
included an FK reference: a brief shot of several signs for downtown
bars included The Loft, a real Montreal bar--I think I drove past it.
I'm pretty sure the Vampire Lounge, seen in the same montage, is
fictitious.

As I was leaving the big TO, I had one odd little lingering thought. We
all know Nick never told Nat he loved her--but what about the reverse?
Was she just waiting for him, or did she ever say "I love you, Nick"?

Your very humble & most obedient servant,
Ligeia

P.S. I'm also eagerly awaiting Fred Saberhagen's next Dracula Tapes
book, _A Coldness in the Blood_, in October.

Off the top of my tired little head, LK contains the line, "You just have to
love me as much as I love you." So she did tell him, albeit in a dependent
clause. ;)

Thanks for the trip details--sounds like fun, Ligeia!

Eve.

The rules crawl in, the rules crawl out,
They keep the list inside and out ....

Yes, I _was_ outside for hours without a hat in very hot weather yesterday.
Why do you ask? :)

Oops, I'd better clarify in case people rush off to order the wrong DVD.
Karmina is dubbed in English on DVD, and that's the one with the FK
reference I described. K2 is also out on DVD, but it only has English
subtitles. I haven't had a chance yet to watch it for FK references.

Ligeia
