Hope you are all celebrating the fifth of May in style!
Hmm... if our favorite characters were to celebrate, what do you think
they'd do?

Subject: a question

i was just on a website and found a story that was an answer to a challenge.
I'm wondering where i can find the other stories that were written for that
challenge. If there isn't a place, then anyone has links to some of the
stories please send them to me offlist. This was the description i found on
the website: Written for the FK If They Only Knew Challenge (what would
happen if people found out that vampires exist and who they are).
that sounds like it would have some very interesting answers to me, and i'd
love to see them :)

thanks,
~Sierra

I think I'm missing something there <whacks forehead> as
hard as I try, I can't think of an occasion. Can you help
please?
Of course I had a mind-blowing celebration today, with
another vampire/Goth fan and a cat in the middle, but
that's too private to be shared here <eg>

It's Cinco de Mayo, or the Fifth of May, a Mexican national holiday. We have
many Mexican immigrants here, so there are big celebrations going on this
weekend.

(In fact, I found out that one of the brothers who take care of the horses at my
boarding stable was slated to sing at the local CdM celebration. So *that's* why
Julio has been singing while mucking out the stalls---he's been practicing! We
are all anxious to find out from his brothers, Armando and Pablo, how he did in
his solo debut.)

After sending the last message, i found only a few of them at the
www.fkfanfic.com site under challenges called, if they only knew. I wonder
if there is more somewhere or if only these few people answered the
challenge?? I was thinking of posting a challenge like this so i'm glad i
found that one's been done. Maybe we need to renew the challenge, i have to
try right *grin*

I'm posting the how to find the stories info b/c i got an e-mail asking
about it, which i answered privately--but i wanted to let everyone wondering
where to find them, and to let ya'll know i did find a couple of them :)

thanks!

I have an entire series based on that premise, but I didn't know about the "If
they only knew" challenge when I wrote it.

You can find them at my personal site, at the fkfanfic2 site, and
fanfiction.net.

I think that some ME's offices are setup with a
rotating assignment for field work.
All of the forensic people take a turn being "on call" with
responsibility to go into the field to analyze a given scene that has
occurred. I don't think that Natalie is in fact present at every scene that
we see on FK, just some of them.
A little cheesy, but not bad.
Truthfully, I think that it is another place where the "world" of FK
was not thought through in extensive detail. If it made dramatic sense
to have Natalie present "in the field", she was. Otherwise, they didn't
bother to have Ms. Disher there just as "window dressing".
I doubt that there was a "bible" for FK that went down into the
depths of police procedure for Tornoto.
I admit that I've watched the show since it was first around and
I never thought of that question before.

I suspect LaCroix would ignore it, as he does every major holiday. (Then
again, the sheer hedonistic nature of Cinco de Mayo-- wine, women and song--
would probably appeal to him.)
And Nick probably has some INTERESTING stories to tell about the revolution
itself.

Help! I've lost two stories of mine: 'The Road Less Travelled' and 'Death

Also, if you notice that a story archived on my FK fanfic site
(http://stormborn.tripod.com/ or www.voluptuarium.net ) is missing, can you
let me know?

Also, in real-world Toronto *g*, there are some substantial differences
between what we see Nat doing and the way things are actually run. One of
the main ones is that coroner (the MD who declares the person dead at the
scene; these people tend to be part time and have regular practices
elsewhere) and medical examiner (specialty with extra education and
internship) are two different jobs. (The other thing that amuses me is that
in the real world Nat would work for the province, not the county.) They
fudged the organizational structure of the coroner's office on FK because
Nat was a main character, and having her do what is really two or three
different jobs opened up when and where we could see her and increased her
level of interaction with Nick and Schanke or Tracy throughout a case.

Even with the weird way things work in FK Toronto, tho, Nat at
just-turning-28 was undoubtedly the most junior ME on the staff (and
possibly still finishing up her internship), and therefore stuck holding the
fort on the shift nobody wanted. IIRC from the tour several of us took of
the Coroner's Office, it's unusual but *possible* for an ME to do double
duty as on-scene coroner, so maybe Nat started doing that at a later date
(maybe after she finished her internship?).
