LOL! You have all been making me smile with your ideas. I really need
something to smile about right now, so THANK YOU!
What computer games do you think the FK characters would enjoy?

Welcome, Lisa!
You and my sister would get along... she's a Valentine and totally
infatuated with LaCroix, too. She's on the fkvals list and a few others.

LC: Dungeon Keeper, where you get to be the bad guy in charge of the
dungeon. I can also see him playing the most recent incarnation of
Civilization.

Nick: Hard to tell, there are so many good RPGs out there. Vampire
the Masquerade, possibly. The main character has a similar
background and personality. Arcanum is also very cool but has no
vampire PCs. One of the recent Might & Magic games had vampire PCs.

Nat: There are some medical games, but I don't play them so I don't
know the titles.

Tracy: Possibly the X-files, or one of those detective games.

Schanke: Solitare. Are there any bowling simulations? I know there
are golf games, but I haven't seen any for bowling.

Janette: I really can't see her playing a computer game, unless it
had to do with fashion.

Hi, this is McLisa, the other listowner. Welcome aboard, Lisa!

I thought I'd answer onlist because it's a frequent question.

The equal sign plus a number is what happens when the listserv software
encounters a symbol which isn't ASCII. Without trying to remember the precise
meaning of the acronym, I'll say that ASCII is plain text, with no proprietary
word processing program symbols. It is an internationally recognized standard.

All letters, numbers and punctuation marks have as assigned numeric value.
Unfortunately some word processing programs, e-mail writing programs and even
the note pad programs of certain operating systems, include non-ASCII
characters. When the listserv receives a character it can't process, it gives
an equal sign and the number it received.

=20 is usually found with MAC and is a non-ASCII line end character. There is
another common = and number which is a non-standard apostrophe. The same thing
happens with html markings.

To avoid the equal sign and number, the poster needs to be sure the post is
sent in ASCII. Word processing softwares which aren't in ASCII have options
for saving in ASCII, after which the poster sends the ASCII version. When
writing directly in a mail program, the poster needs to check that html isn't
on and that if there's an option for plain text, it's turned on.

Hoping this helps,

Okay, I admit it, my tiny little brain is getting muddled over there being
"two" KC's on this list.

For starters, I've known Susan Nix aka "KC" since around 1996, but lately
I've been seeing KC Smith - Are you two the same KC, only one post-marriage
(or divorce?? :-) ) using different e-mail accounts? Just curious - and if
anyone has asked this before and I missed it, allow me to apologise and
grovel in advance. (For that matter, I'm still apologising and grovelling
for daring to - heehee - tease Listmommy Lisa for writing about the Cable
News Network Tower in Toronto. :-) :-) :-) )

(Okay, time for everyone to start throwing bricks...)

In case anyone thinks that this level of confusion is evidence of an
upcoming breakdown, let me steal a line from the Fox News Channel's Sean
Hannity who himself frequently borrows the biblical line (I think that it's
biblical??), namely "Let not your heart be troubled". Indeed, this is not
the first time that FK fandom has had two people using the same name.

For instance: Does anyone recall that there are TWO Lisa Prince's? :-)
(Okay...cue that Dragnet music! DA DA DA DAAAAA!!!). The more well-known
one is in Connecticut while the other is from Guelph, Ontario and frequently
attends Toronto Trek. (I keep bugging her to join this list, but she has
not yet taken me up on the "invitation". Doh!!!)

Subject: ADMIN: OT is ATR -- don't do it without checking

Guys, one of the rules which is posted every Sunday says that Off topic posts
aren't done on Forkni-l. It's possible that an emergency or something like last
Sept. 11th may make me or Don agree to an off topic post, but you must ask for
permission first.

I realize that sometimes cross-posts from other lists which allow them get onto
Forkni-l when there's a connection to FK. That's not a problem, but the OT:
header is. That header doesn't make an off topic message ok on Forkni-l. If
you're cross posting something which does relate to FK, then post to us
separately and remove the OT:. Please.

Thanks!

I really don't play too many computer games, but here's my measley, extremely
limited attempt.

Nick: Sherlock Holmes game. A game of deduction using clues, and lack of clues
sometimes.

LaCroix: Populous. I'm sticking to my "he's a control freak" theory. I know,
I know, he doesn't believe in an all-powerful omnipotent being except for
himself. Voila, Populous. Now he can play at being God.

That's all I have.

A friend from Toronto, a non-FK fan, happened to be visiting when Hunted first
aired. As soon as the flashbacks with the poacher and Nick and LC and Janette
out hunting started, she sat up and said, "That's High Park!" I think someone
later confirmed it.

Susan Nix usually signs her posts just 'KC'.
I sign mine KC Smith, in an effort to avoid the confusion.
We are, in fact, two separate people. :)
As a matter of fact, when I first joined the list and was just signing my
posts as 'KC', Susan wrote a nice letter to me asking if I would be
willing to either change my sig or use my last name with it, since she
had already been on the list for awhile before me. I happily agreed.
My name is actually Kelly Colleen, but since I grew up being one of
several Kelly's in all my classes, I adopted the nickname KC.
My sister, Shana, is actually 'KC', too~ Kryshana Christine. But since
she has gone by Shana since we were babies, she is happy with that.
(Thank goodness! ;) )
Hope this clears up any confusion!

I can't see Natalie wanting to play 'Doctor' type games. I'm sure she
gets enough of that at work.
Maybe 'Scrabble' or 'Mahjongg Master' or some kind of puzzle games. She
might even enjoy 'Sim City' or one of the other 'Sim' games. Something
that challenges her, but doesn't revolve around the medical field.

Same goes for Nick. He's a detective at work, so I don't know if he'd
like computer games that revolve around that theme. Maybe he'd like the
one where you are on an archaeological dig (can't remember the name of
it).

Since Aristotle's not here to answer this for us...

ASCII = American Standard Code for Information Interchange. It is 7
bits.

Actually, it would probably go something like this:
You shoot yourself in the foot, delurk to send a message, and
bleed to death while waiting for a response. Nobody notices.

I see each and every character but Nicholas, Janette, and LC, hunched over
their computers trying to get the *&@! <tm> computer game to jive with the
%^&! <tm> hardware components.

Nicholas, Janette, and LC, of course, would be sipping their refreshments
while watching some poor, hired computer geek like Merlin or Aristotle try
to get their games to work without stalling, freezing, and otherwise causing
smoke to come out of both computer and own ears.

Thrilled that DVD FK might someday be possible. Bummed that the 'Dragon'
studio tapes of On Holy Ground'are delayed. And has spent her share of time
with steamed ears gratis her old Riven game with the (as it turned out)
faulty #4 cd.
