Subject: New book with FK in it

Hi, folks! I was just at a local bookstore, and I found a book called "The
Complete Idiot's Guide to Vampires" by Jay Stevenson. There were two
pages on our own FK! It was neat to see it mentioned.

Have a Happy Hallowe'en!

Subject: An Anniversary

Hi all!
Although I’m still in the lurking mode I thought I’d say
this because it is somewhat an important thing for me. It
is mid October and I was just reminded that it was last
year, around this time, that I first found out about FK
(not the show, but about what existed about and around the
show, i.e. The fanfiction and the fandom). I don’t know the
exact date but I remember that one day, mid October last
year, I was bored and did a search on vampire related
fanfiction that ended in fkfanfic.com. That’s how it all
started for me, and hey, it’s been a year now. I just
wanted to say what an amazing experience that had been and
how much of a happier person I am right now compared to
last year, all because of this wonderful community. Thank
you all for contributing so much to this brilliant premise
and for being such great writers, webpage designers,
chatters, video producers and list members.Thank you for
staying with the fandom so that newcomers like me could
enjoy your work and your caring company and feel right at
home.

Peace and happiness to all
Sunny

Subject: How to shoot yourself in the foot...

Hi gang!

Here is a little fun thing I did today. I was lucky to have
a break from my crazy schoolwork and decided to write
something odd and silly. I took the 'How to shoot yourself
in the foot in different computer languages' idea and did
it for different FK factions. These are mostly war factions
and I know I’m missing a lot of others. If you think you
have something to add please go ahead, and feedback is also
very welcome. Especially right now that I've been isolated
from the fandom for so long, it seems like it’s been ages
since I did anything FK related (or anything fun related
for that matter) and could use some interaction with my
friends from the fandom.

Oh, and sorry for the spelling mistakes. I'm sure they are
there somewhere.

Cheers
Sunny

Subject : How to shoot yourself in the foot based on your
faction/affiliation

Cousin: Uncle orders you to shoot yourself in the foot for
his entertainment, and of course, you comply.

Knightie: You are buried somewhere inside a pile of hugging
bodies and someone accidentally shoots you in the foot. No
one has a klew as to who did it so they all shoot
themselves in the foot for compensation.

NatPacker: You go to the morgue and intentionally shoot
yourself in the foot for the sheer scientific challenge of
finding the cure. You tell everyone a cousin did it.

Ravenette: You’ve read in a fashion magazine that a shot
through the foot is trendy, and hence…

Vaquera/Vaquero: You can shoot straight, you want to shoot
straight, but someone’s long oily hair is obscuring-ly in
your face and your foot gets it.

Ratpacker: All you can remember is that you were drunk in a
sewer, there were a few other drunken sailors around you,
you were shouting, singing and dancing, and a few harmless
shots were fired.

Die-hard/independent: You have shot yourself in the foot,
but you refuse to seek help from anyone.

Merc: You are hired to shoot someone in the foot. Later you
find out that it is a certain Roman general. Too late you
find out that it was probably not the best idea to accept
this particular job. Next day, you are in a hospital with
an injured foot.

Nunkies anonymous: It’s a new ritual: Listen to CERK, sing
a silly song, kiss Nunkies’ picture, and shoot yourself in
the foot.

N&Npacker: You feel bummed. For the thousandth time Nick
and Nat have a romantic night together, but go their own
ways the next morning, just because ‘there is no way for
him to be with her without risking to hurt her’. You scream
‘Damn fanfiction writers’ and take up the gun.

Enforcer: You accidentally break the Code and must shoot
yourself in the foot for penalty.

FoDs: You’re in a souvlaki deli where some people are
dancing polka while others shoot at their feet. You’re the
next in line to dance.

Perkulator: There are no bullets in your foot sweetheart,
really. That’s just a coffee stain on your pink sneakers.

UFfer: Honey, wine, candlelight, sandlewood, body heat,
gun, shot, foot, ouch…

Caddywack: You’ve wrecked the car and know that the owner
will most likely kill you. So you shoot yourself in the
foot and put the blame for both damages on Mafia.

Lurker: You shoot yourself in the foot and you bleed to
death. No one notices.

Subject: LCA4

Greetings:

(I'm just telling you this coz no one else seems to be, not because I'm in
any especially privileged position to observe and describe all that goes on
at Lights, Camera, Auction.)

Saturday's session of LCA4 was a rollicking affair, making up for the fact
that there were fewer attendees than in past years. In the morning, prop
breakaway bottles were auctioned off, with the new owners promised the chance
to break said bottles, one over Jon Cassar, the other over Mr. Bennett.

FK scripts and crew jackets were auctioned off, as well as set visits to
shows currently shooting in TO. When some item wasn't drawing much interest,
Jon would throw in a mini paper shredder, which quickly became a desirable
item in themselves. It turns out that the National Enquirer contributed a
passel of mini paper shredders to this auction. Shoot -- if we can bid up the
price of empty Coke cans, we can spend $50 to $75 Canadian for a prop or
script that comes with a mini paper shredder, right <g>?

Speaking of the Coke cans, Barclay Hope started it off and garnered $3,300.
He was followed by Joanne Vannicola, who mistook a pair of Coke cans for the
latest Victoria's Secret pneumatic bra, and was rewarded with a $1,300
winning bid. A rookie effort by Alan Van Sprang, a cute boy who plays a
latexed villain in Earth: Final Conflict, and who was reduced to his
underwear during the bidding, raised (as it were) $1,000.

(For those who don't know the story of the Coke can challenge, it started at
Bridging the Knight when Jon Kapelos and Nigel Bennett auctioned off an empty
Coke can they had both drunk from, leading to talk of genetically engineering
their love child. Since then, all the actors who appear at LCA must auction
off a Coke can. What some of them do with and to the Coke can would not make
fundamentalists of any religion very happy <weg>.)

One of the two charities this year is Canine Companions, and the dogs and
their humans have been a nice presence. One of the dogs walked a Snoopy
stuffed toy around to show off to the bidders. That and several Charles
Schultz-related items did very well, with Barclay and Joanne joining in the
bidding.

The afternoon session ended with a directors' panel that explained the job of
a director in TV series production.

The Saturday evening party was a blast: it was nice to see Jayne dance along
with the rest of the gang. The Man in Black, Mr. Cassar, came in later and
danced first with Joanne, then with Rae. By the end of the evening, Malcolm
Xerxes, one of the attendees, was dancing on one of the tables.

And yes, I did buy a hat. It's blue. The front says "SEX." The back says "in
the City, 2001." It goes nicely with my mini paper shredder.

this weeks question is..............

A British rag recently 'revealed' that Queen Elizabeth supposedly shares her
bath with a yellow rubber duck, complete with minature crown. And you've

share their baths/showers with? (Keep it PG13, kiddies! <G>)

Screed: A rubber rat.
Tracy: Vachon.
Schanke: Myra, of course.

Oh man... do we have to keep it PG 13? Can we respond with an Adult header
is we want??? lol

Cause I can't see Lacroix with a plastic toy in the bathtub.... and I don't
see him being too PG13 about it either (or is that just a wish of mine?)

anyways... if the rest were to take a bath (as opposed to a shower)

Janette, I think she'd have rose petals, or jasmine flowers... while
sipping on a glass of warmed blood...

Nick and Natalie would have each other, if they believed they could get away
with it (and not have a death or a new vampire as a result)

Shanke- he'd have the rubber ducky, or Myra... but not both at the same time

Tracy would have either Vachon, or take the opportunity to polish her badge

Vachon would have Tracy...

Screed- "Wots uh baf?"

I wonder. Geraint Wyn Davies said something once about
Nick being the most clothed man on television, and I've
seen quite a few fanfic authors run with that, interpreting it
to indicate extreme physical modesty on Nick's part.
*Would* he bathe with Natalie? I don't think it was as
customary at the time Nick was alive as it is now for
people to even be naked when they had physical relations.
Might make things extremely frustrating for Natalie if after
finally achieving their dream of Nick's mortality, she finds
him bashful about being fully unclothed in front of her.

Actually, at the time Nick was alive and for centuries after, people slept
in the nude, often in communal sleeping spaces. The nightshirt and
nightgown, much less pajamas, are a very recent invention from Nick's point
of view.

Women washed their menfolk and tended to them while they were sick, and
taught girls how to do this. There are, in fact, records of important men
being chastised by their confessors because they had a bunch of maidservants
wash them instead of their wives!

Bathing might be a pleasant solitary soak in a hot tub, but it could also be
a social occasion at which a hat might be de rigueur but covering the rest
of you was not. Think of it as being not unlike the custom in Japan and in
many places in Europe, where it is not unseemly to bathe (soak in hot water
*after* having been thoroughly cleansed) or to swim in the nude, although
doing your grocery shopping undressed would be horrible. As with so many
questions of "modesty," for Nick it would be a matter of time and place.

Even through the Victorian era and into the last century, it was quite
customary for men to go swimming in the nude. There is a wonderful picture
from the 1910s in my hometown's historical society showing a crowd of dozens
of men and boys at the abandoned quarry that was the equivalent of
Princeton's swimming pool at the time. Not a stitch of clothing on any of
them, although many of the men are wearing very chic bowlers.

Some other explanations of Nick being so covered up could be that as a
vampire, he feels vulnerable when his skin is exposed, even at night, or
that he has become accustomed to staying covered up in order to be less
visible in the shadows of night....

I would not be surprised to learn that the real reason is that was easier
for the production, to keep Ger--who says he has been described as one of
"the pinkest" actors out there--covered up, rather than deal with the body
makeup necessary to give him a vampire's pallor all over.

Good points all, Mary--I'd like to add just one more. I've had constructive
critiques from a couple of beta readers, over various treatments of Nick's
character that ran contrary to the clothing=modesty theory. In my responses,
I came up with some of the points you made, plus this one: Nick seems to get
attacked and shot up quite frequently. Perhaps his being overly clothed has
something to do with hiding the fact that he heals so quickly.

Eve.
