Subject: twenty years of courtship?

Why did it take Divia twenty years to pop the question? Hm. Because it
took her twenty years of trying every other perversion and sin known before
she finally thought of incest? When you think of it that way, she had a very
busy twenty years!

Or because she spent 20 years doing her best to tempt & entice him into it,
and he kept not getting the point, and finally in exasperation she just
asked directly - oops ...

Now this is interesting, <pondering>

I remember reading something someone had written about the same time
"Shut up and Drive" came out, and it was a really good fic, and ever
since then I've always associated that song with Natalie. There's a
track on the Strange Day's soundtrack "Dance me to the End of Love",
that's always struck me as very Jeanette like. Those are the only
two that are comming to mind right now.

On a slightly related note, did we ever get a sense of the characters
musical tastes? I know Schanke put in his two cents, and we saw
Nick's rock and roll phrase, but did Natalie or Tracy ever express
musical tastes?

I'm just detail obsessive <g> I can't help myself.

But I did get my revisions done! It took me a bit to figure out how to
tweak 10 years with Divia to 20 years with Divia, but I'm generally happy
with the results. It only took me three years to do it too!

And now for the shameless self promotion bit!

Now, on to the next revision!

I think it was a gradual thing. Absolute power corrupting and all that. she
was getting used to her abilities, her lil vamp powers, and I think her
relationship with Lucius would take time to fall into a different pattern.
And maybe she knew he'd not go for the idea at all and figured if she were
patient, gave him time to forget his mortal inhibitions, he'd be more
likely to go along with her.

Hi all just a quick note to let you know this weeks question which is.
"If Nick became mortal and asked you to act as a guide to the 'mortal' world
for him on his first day what experiences/places would you introduce him
to?"

Now that's a toughie. I think I'd like to take him to a place where he'd be
able to experience the good in people. That place would have to be surrounded
by nature, show something that people have accomplished by working together,
and would have to be during the daylight hours. I don't know, maybe someplace
like the Statue of Liberty, followed by a picnic in the park where you can
watch children at play. I think I'd also take him to Mass at St. Patrick's
Cathedral. <g>

Oh, let's not forget horseback riding and whale watching (I like whale watching
and enjoy horseback riding and he probably would too).

In addition to several excellent reason posed by other people, I wonder if
some of the delay was because she was still so young when she was brought
across. Would she have even thought of sex at first? And did she get her
education, at least in part, from sharing blood with Lucius? If so, did she
get her information about the taboo against incest from him, so that she
knew how horrified he would be at her suggestion. Or did she really believe
that it wouldn't matter to him. She seemed almost to be taunting him with
her "Mother, daughter, lover" speech.

A follow up question, too. Is it possible that he was less tolerant of
Nick's weaknesses because he was trying to make him stronger because he saw
what his own "weakness" had caused him to do? He obviously still regretted
killing Divia all those years later, so If nick didn't regret or fear
anything than he wouldn't have to feel the guilt LaCroix did?

First things first. Sunrise. It could be over the
ocean, mountains anywhere. Icecream would be on the
list as well as almost any other food you could think
of. A walk in the park, a day at the beach.
That is it for now. Phylis

Ooh, good question. Sunrise is the obvious one--my
vote would be for mountains, someplace green. And I
liked the suggestion of Mass, but I'd take him to a
different St. Patrick's--my old parish in Lexington,
VA, which is a very small, very blue (you'd have to
see the inside to know what I mean) and the people are
great. I'd like to show him how the Church has
changed and stayed the same since he joined. ;) And
there are genuinely good people there, the kind you
don't usually meet working a homicide detail! Also,
Lexington is just a goregous town, but it's prettiest
by daylight! And he'd HAVE to go to the coffee shop
(Tracy would love it, too!) and try the coffee, and
muffins. Then I'd take him to Washington DC to see a
sunny day on the Mall, when everyone's out playing
games and flying kites.

Ice cream and cake, definite musts.....ooh, and
horseback riding....hee, is playing Nick's mortal tour
guide a full-time salaried position?

But doesn't Nick already KNOW how to ride??? We see him several times, even
as a vampire riding so I'm afraid he'd have a lot more experience than any of
us - even in daylight riding considering his mortal days.

Good point. I'd sit behind him as he finally took that
motorcycle that's been sitting in his loft all this time out
for a spin in the sunshine. Maybe get a bit more
adventurous even. Nick at Sturgis, what a concept. <g>

I realize this list needs to be cleaned up and some editing done. That's on
my to-do list right after the painter finishes with the inside of my house
some time next month. In the mean time, please remember that we're back to
FK topicality. To be clear, our activities as fans of FK are topical. So are
life events among us or other fans, like weddings. That includes anything
about the attacks In New York and Washington that affect us or other FK fans
personally.

At the end of my Coming Across, in which Nick became mortal and spent his
first day in the park, with Nat, he got very sunburned. He'd forgotten and
she was too excited to think about the effect of sunlight for hours on
someone as fair-skinned as Nick. I think the first thing I'd introduce him
to would be sunblock. :)

Chocolate was also unknown in Nick's mortal days. Nat should take him to a
Laura Secord's to celebrate. Yes, I know about Laura Secord chocolates. Not
for nothing do I have chocoholic friends in Canada.

You know, we've made several suggestions of food that we would have Nick try
if we were his "now he's mortal" tour guides, but I wonder if he really
would like the stuff we wanted him to try. Just taking his once-mortal
palate into consideration, it would all be very different from what he was
once used to. Maybe he would even hate chocolate, and would prefer
honey-flavored sweets? That's hard to be believe, though.... "g"
