Am also Queen of Understatement, according to war posts. <g>

Yes, indeed. Assuming authors bothered to date and time said posts. Not
all did. :-(

On a happy note, I'm six days into the war posts with very few "Where in the
heck is this one supposed to go?!" entries. E-mails will be sent, authors
will be confronted.

Still room for possible sanity. Have not given up hope yet. When all else
fails, sniff glue on back of Post-It Notes for reassurance -- better than
aromatherapy!

Bonnie,

Good Luck.

As to Compiling order. I would say either:

1. Occurance date and time

or

2. Faction then Occurance date and time

I'd go by faction, then the date/time of the action of the story (blasted
late posts.. I had to do enough of them myself).

Unfortunatley, this brings up the question of- what to do when a story deals
with more than one faction. It happens to the Mercs a lot- go figure.

It would depend on how you're setting this up, if it's a webpage, then it's
easy just to copy the link to every faction section that the story applies
to.

I'm not sure how else this would be set up though...

time for me to go to sleep anyways....

You betcha! L-)

> as they dropped

Simplest, of course. Unless your mailbox gets resorted for some reason, as
mine do on occasion. Not the best choice for following what the heck
happened, though.

> as the action really occurred (which, too often, has little to do with
>when they dropped)

Do you mean by this actually building a timeline, going through the posts
to see when people timestamped them? This is what I'd call the classic way
of compiling a War, although it does depend on people stamping the darn
things correctly. I prefer *reading* posts this way, although it's a royal
pain-in-the-butt for whoever's organizing it. I don't think the backdating
of posts was as rampant in this War as I've seen it in the past. I know of
a few "oopses" this time, which were corrected in other posts, sometimes on
FORKNI-L.

> by day

This would seem to me to be a subset of one of the first two
options. Sorted by the day they dropped or by the day they
occurred. Doesn't seem a separate option, to me.

> by post

Huh? I don't understand what you mean by this one.

> by faction

This always struck me as an alternate index kind of thing, as opposed to a
primary key. Relatively easy to determine this time, as everyone was
pretty good about putting the factions involved in the subject line. How
would they be organized within a faction? In the 'as they dropped'
fashion, or by a timeline?

> by prominent story arc (if so, name prominent story arcs other than War

I personally wouldn't bother with this option. Seems like it would leave a
lot of posts under "miscellaneous". Let's see, what arcs did we have? I'm
still *way* behind reading the last half of the War. There was the "old
dead dude" arc the NA did. The rest kind of depends on how you define
prominent. Shelley and Arletta researching the Vitamin U angle, with LC's
credit card? (Hey, gotta mention my own faction.) This sounds like even
more of a headache than simply working out a timeline. Just MHO, of course.

Okay, I'm done channeling my inner programmer/dba/librarian. :-)

That was my first thought...... it seems like the majority of the Vaq-posts
this year were in conjunction with at least one other faction. What *would*
you do with a post that's titled 'WAR: NA/Vaq/DP' ? <grin>

Just to clarify and distinguish, as a proud graduate of the
University of California, Berkeley, the *preferred* way of the
university to refer to itself is *not* U of C (B), or even UCB
(although this is frequently used as an abbreviation around the
campus and in the University of California system to distinguish it
as a UC among UCs). The *preferred* term is "Cal" (short for
California, which is how we are referred to at various sporting
events, including games within the UC system--as my new Bruins
football schedule shows). Other acceptable terms are "Berkeley"
(which is used in Cal's URL), or "UC Berkeley", but we're really not
much for initials. (Initials are for the "satellite" universities
like UCLA. :)

Keeping this on topic, (and proving that the question "What's in an
initial?" is apt :), this message comes to you from beautiful TO, CA,
where the sun shines all year round, and the palm trees sway. :)

(who is wondering if she'll have to "get her own fight song" now that
she's going to be attending UCLA--or if she can just keep Cal's and
sing the *right* words to it--before being promptly decked by fellow

Well, the popular one seems to be by the order the action occured. But I'd
also like to see them by story arc. Some of the more prominent story arcs I
remember are:

1. The Llama thing ;)
2. the really old not-so-dead-guy.
3. The search for Vitamin U.
4. The runaway VampBear.
Those are the ones I can remember from being brain fried. Anyone else want
to mention others? (I know I'm forgetting lots of them.)

By day & by faction would seem logical, since our posts had the time
it was taking place at the beginning. I'm not sure what you mean "by
post," unless it's alphabetically by title.

Subject: Knight Vision (and other nbci sites) Moving...

Hi,

I am just letting you guys know my site hasn't been updated for a reason.
NBCi quit letting all their member pages have updates since July 18th. We
get "access denied" now. Well, they discontinued their service, so everyone
with a xoom/nbci site has to move elsewhere.

All NBCi sites will be shut down around the end of July, so I am currently
in the process of moving about 650 MB of files over to my movie server. If
you'd still like to visit my site while it is still up on Xoom/NBCi, click
the link below.

http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/forever_nick/Forever_Knight/index.htm

Make sure you have http://knightvision.4ever.cc book-marked, so that when
the site is up at my new location you will be directed there with my
short-cut URL.

One other thing, it just so happened that my computer had a major failure
last weekend and needs a new part. I can not even boot it up, so currently I
can not even move the rest of my site. I started, but that's when it died on
me, while I was uploading. I hope to have it back up by the end of this week
and then I will try to finish.

Feel free to pass this along to other lists (I lack my contacts list right
now, since I am writing to you off another computer),

Guys, please -- the rules were just posted yesterday. When it
says quote only 4 lines for each point you answer, don't quote
full post at the beginning or end of your reply -- it means what
it says.

I admit I'm hungry, tired and and job-stressed right now, so
please don't make me have to start penalizing people who make a
habit of ignoring the quote limits.

Thanks.

Easy. On a web page, just create a relative link to that post (using
title as a relative reference) to the Natpackers, Vaqueros and Dark
Perks lists of posts. Put the link into each faction's section.
Then when you load each faction's page, the multi-faction post is
listed along with the others.
