That's probably their e-mail service, not the font.  Some e-mail services do
not use plain text.  AOL is notorious for this.  As for line breaks, different
e-mail services insert line breaks into different places.  I try to format my
stories for word wrapping with a 3" margin on the left, which seems to work.
(At least, I haven't gotten any complaints.)

Subject: what annoys me about fanfic

What annoys me is people who get fic, which is written by folks who've put
aside other things in their life to make the time to write the fic, and
then complain about it. If you don't like a story, that's fine, don't read
it. If you read something you like, be kind and drop a note to the author so
she or he knows that the time she or he could have spent waxing the dog or
brushing the floor or polishing the mailbox or whatever was appreciated.

I do agree the writer should make things readable. Otherwise, given the
standard payment on FK fanfic, the person I write to amuse and entertain is
myself. Fortunately, I have good taste, especially where poor taste is
involved, and a non-existant list of dislikes, depending on my mood. (mho, of
course.)

Subject: FK in German

Having seen some first season tapes -- Yes, I do still have them, along with
a very bad guilt complex and I promise to send them back! -- I agree that
the voices and voice-acting were well matched. In particular, I liked the
work of the actor who was Nick's voice  in German.

Question: someone told me that the actor who voiced Schanke was also the
voice of Duncan in the German Highlander. Is that correct? I thought he was
a good match for John Kapelos both in sound and expression, but I can't
imagine him as a voice for a character originally played by Adrian Paul.

About the name Forever Knight:  it was Ger's suggestion and of course it
does depend on an untranslatable pun. For those of us who speak languages
other than English, how about some suggestions for titling the show in those
languages that aren't simply "Nick Knight Vampire Cop"?  When the show was
new and running in Panama, I was told that it was called "Man of the
Shadows" in Spanish. I won't try to spell the Spanish equivalent since I
don't know more than a few words of the language.

Subject: FK Fan Fiction

Oh, everybody has pet peeves.

I like FK fiction that's well-written, that reflects the characters as they
appeared in the series (and if it takes them to a point beyond that, does
so in a logical and believable manner), that makes me think of FK (the
characters and the series) in a new way, that comes up with a plot that is
logical, plausible and something I never would have considered.

I will admit, quite cheerfully, that there are certain types of stories
that I will not bother reading, after giving a paragraph a perusal.  The
same with certain authors - it's not that they're particularly bad, they're
simply not to my taste.

Keep in mind, types of stories have become 'types' through logical
progression.  There are certain FK situations that lead to a "what if"
scenario that inspires many writers to creativity, so you're going to have
variations on a theme, many of which will seem similar simply because there
are only so many way to solve the problem.  The final episode alone leads
to so many different forms of interpretation that, should it ever have
gotten really serious, would rival some of the theological debates and
extermination of Gnostic heresies prevalent in the first few centuries of
organized Catholicism.  Thank heavens we've often been able to maintain our
love for the show as common ground - larger and smaller fandoms have torn
themselves apart in reaction to canonical interpretation.

We've been darned lucky to have had a fandom around long enough to
have  DEVELOPED types of fiction.  I've paddled about in fandoms where the
entire body of fiction (hard copy and internet), would fit on a 3.5" floppy
disk.  I dare you to try that with FK.

As for people posting their preferences, go right ahead.  Writers have to
learn to develop thick skins.  Now's a good a time as any to discover that
you can't please everyone and that your prose isn't going to be everyone's
cup of tea.

As for my personal preferences, using "Vampyre:The Masquerade" or Anne Rice
terminology to describe FK characters or situations never fails to set my
teeth on edge - the first time 'childe'  appears, I'm so outta there.

If I DO have a pet peeve, it's LaCroix ever being referred to as
"cuddly-wuddly."  Particularly, someone using that to LaCroix's face and
not getting their head ripped off. Immediately.

As someone who has been reading fkfanfic for a few years, I find that I enjoy
nick being cured or not, or having a child or not as  long as the stories are
well written and make sense.  I'm not crazy about Nat being brought over, but
if it fits in and is an essential part of the plot, fine.  There is an audience
for all types of tales, even for the ones that I'm not a fan of.  I just hit
delete and let it go at that.  although I do cringe at poor grammer and when
there is a glaring historical misfact( is that a word? or just scrabble).  So
keep writing, there is someone for each version of Nick, Natalie Lacroix and
the whole gang.  I must say that some xovers do stretch the imagination, but
so be it.  JudyL

Literally, Forever Knight would translate to "Immer Ritter" in German, Ritter
meaning Knight.

However, Forever Night in German would literally translate to "Immer Nacht."

I'm not a native speaker, though, I had three years of German in high school and
spent 6 months in Germany in 1993-94.

Greetings....

I've read this discussion about fanfic pet peeves with great interest, and I
do understand that what Sunny likes to read in FK fic may not be what someone
else would like to read.

My last two "Sara Louise" stories, "In Another Life" and "My Dinner With
LaCroix" were very well-recieved, and I'm always open to constructive
criticism about what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong.

I must admit when I read Sunny's post, I did get a little discouraged because
I've currently got 4 FK stories which are in various stages of development
(including a Poltergeist:the Legacy/FK xover, a sci-fi FK tale and the sequel
to "In Another Life"), and at first I felt maybe I should just quit writing
fanfic while I was ahead, but... I looked at the ton of complimentary mail I
got after I posted "In Another Life", and I realized there's an audience out
there for all types of fic, and I'm pleased to be able to contribute
something new to the growing universe of FK stories.

We all have our likes and dislikes, and while one piece of fanfic may delight
someone, it may annoy the daylights <g> out of someone else, but that's one
of the joys of fanfic....  there's something for everyone, and I'm going to
keep on writing and I hope you'll enjoy what my imagination is able to come
up with.
