My interpretation of Serena's disappointment was that she felt that if she
had indeed been fertilized than the "vampire" in her would be gone
instantly. Perhaps she was just too impatient.

The story is Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs, and the author is KC Susan, of
Nunkies Anonymous fame. KC's other fiction includes the filk Master of the
Mouse, several editions of her Snixco catalog, and the MST3K crossovers Schanke
and Frank reunited and LaCroix does the SOL.

I've collected most of her work onto one page at my homepage

I think we're supposed to assume it, because she seemed to think that the
cure would be immediate; but she's weeping blood tears at the end of the
episode, and Nick is being sympathetic.

Now, Serena and Nick could have been wrong about the cure being immediate,
and she may have a pleasant surprise in store for her. But if Serena were
not mortal I don't see how she'd bear a child, or even conceive; surely a
vampire body would just expel a fertilized ovum, assuming it could produce
an ovum, as a foreign entity.

On a related topic, does anyone besides me find it a little weird that Nick
is standing there on top of the CN Tower - granted with his back turned, but
still - while his former lover Serena consummates the act (probably) with
this other guy? Oddly voyeuristic and icky, to me.

And on another related topic, I took the Serena-and-Nick consummation scene
as one that showed that vampires to be capable of 'real' sex as well as
blood-drinking. The scene with Alexandra, also, I thought, showed that Nick
expected, at least, to be capable of 'real' sex - unfortunately his vampire
nature prompted him to premature exsanguination - but he was expecting to be
able to take her to bed for more reasons than that. So the 'human' urge
seems to be there, if only the vampire urge can be controlled for long
enough.

(Though why, in that case, he didn't consummate his marriage, or the affair
with the merchant's daughter Amalia, as well as draining them, is a mystery
to me.)

Or the owner of the Web ring. IIRC, the owner of a Web ring usually has the
power to remove any site from the ring...

A LITTLE weird? Try ENTIRELY weird! Odd, icky, exciting, call it what you like.
I was shocked the first time I viewed the program. I kept expecting a polite
"ahem" from somebody, or maybe a grip to slowly extend a pole waaaaaay out to
poke Ger in the head <poke-poke "pssssst!">. Or perhaps LaCroix should have
landed just about then, laid his arm around Nick's shoulder, and clucked with
fatherly understanding and sympathy.

But look at it this way: at least he turned his back! Nick's presence didn't
seem to deter Serena from her task, either. Maybe there's something about
standing out on in the icy wind on an swaying tower in Toronto that impairs
vampire judgment?

I'm afraid that when I saw that scene, my first reaction wasn't wondering at the
voyeuristic aspects. I was astounded they all weren't desperately clutching at
any available pole trying to stay upright against the wind! At that height,
there's a constant stiff breeze coming off the lake, and it about blows you off
your feet.

Or maybe construction workers are made of sterner stuff, and they were wearing
their magnetic shoes. And Nick was actually flying against the wind, and was
going at the precise speed he needed to stay in one place. <g>

I remember yelling at the T.V. during this one. It was kinda a long moment
there and I kept shrieking, "I can't *believe* he is just *standing* there!"
I laughed for days over that one. Nicky definitely needs to get in the sun
more often.

Agreed---by my and your standards. I can only think that for vampires the
standards are different--they being so less constrained morality wise than
we (other than following the Code). Maybe they don't mind voyeurism and the
only reason we saw ones like Nick and that young vampire in SOB go off alone
was because they were in the vicinity of mortals who might protest such a
public activity as biting your companion's neck and avidly sucking away.

Not to mention that he probably could feel all of it too considering the
mental link vampire parent/children share. I’m only forced to listen to my
neighbors consummate (or something like that) every night and I tell you
it's so icky I have to turn my TV volume up to the last notch and it still
doesn't help. I don't know how he could tolerate it.

Trying to stay within the realm of PG (which is very difficult in this
case considering my limited vocabulary) most vampire adult fiction I read
(which are basically all FK fiction) presume that vampire's can have real
human sex with their mortal/immortal partners but the act of drinking
blood is essential for the vampire to find their release and therefore
it's always last, making everything else almost as significant as mere
cuddling. The only problem is that a mortal lover may not survive this
final act.

I suspected that was what had happened. Is there any way of complaining to
whatever company is the host of the web ring? What that person did is
really abusive, and if something isn't done about stuff like that, Congress
is going to continue to try to put controls on the internet that a lot of
people aren't going to be very happy with.
