Hi-
This may be redundant since I don't get a chance to read every message,
But...
I just went to Amazon.com and looked up "Nigel Bennet" , His Father's Son
came up and the release date is listed as April 3, 2001. They are taking
orders now.
So everyone get ready to order, or get ready to go out to your local
bookstore on Tuesday!

Sorry, but this is one 'holiday' Kyer has been against even as a tyke in
kindergarden. Some of the jokes are just plain mean spirited. (She
remembers seeing the 'outcasts' being tormented something awful with this
day as their persecuters excuse.)

Wish I had had the time to do something for St. Pat's. Maybe Easter. Don't
celebrate those either, but I am not flat out against others celebrating.
Though I have trouble picturing Janette in an pastel dress and Easter
bonnet. <g>

Sorry, Molly. <eg>
How about Janette dyeing Easter eggs in midnight black and filling them with
bloodwine instead?
She can fill one with cow wine for Nick and give it a little viking cap
(with the horns, ya know?) so he can tell which one is his.

What a GREAT egg decorating idea! One of our dearest friends is so very vocal
in his pride in being Viking-American {an enormous Viking-American, too - those
guys are really big!}; you know the type: blue eyes, blazing red hair/beard.

We don't celebrate Easter, but we can make him a Forever Knight "eternity"
basket with Viking-American Eggs {chocolate} with little horns. In the bottom
of the basket we can put a FK videotape {plastic-wrapped, of course}. What a
perfect gift - it even works for non-Viking-American recipients.

Kyer, you're brilliant!

Thanks!

Even better if you can find a Viking Boat shaped basket to put them in. <eg>
All the little rows of viking eggs with spears and sheilds, one manning the
drums...

How about an Basket of toga and laurel bedecked eggs for the Cousin in your

At risk of being slightly off-topic, I'd like to
reiterate this, louder. If you can, PLEASE give
blood! I don't know who the six people are who
donated the O+ and B+ and platelets I recieved in the
hospital, but I do know they probably saved my life.
I also remember being worried because they could find
exactly ONE unit of B+ who was a close enough antigen
match (the condition I have made a close match very
desireable.) They were debating whether to ask my
brother (who shares my type) to fly up and donate some
for me. There is a major blood shortage out there,
and especially with traumas and surgeries, it's
imperative they have an ample supply on hand. I was
lucky I could wait while they looked for more.
(Besides, you never know when a hungry vamp in the
morgue might need a snack.)

Wear your FK shirts, hats or buttons--vampire
merchandise at a blood donation is a great
conversation piece! If you're on a con committee or
know someone who is, especially a local-level con,
think about organizing a blood drive at the con. At
the Creation Cons I attended yearly in Dearborn, they
held an "alien blood drive." Each person who donated
a unit specified which "species" they represented
(Klingon, Vulcan, Human--hey, it was Trek.) The drive
folks kept a running tally on a blackboard in the
dealer's room. I think the only prize was bragging
rights for your species, but a lot of people donated.
Again, the vampire theme obviously lends itself to
blood. Maybe a competition between favorite/famous
vampires--are you donating for Nick, LaCroix, Dracula,
Angel, Jean-Claude, etc? Something similar. This is
easier to do on a local level, obiviously, but it
could be doable.

Sorry..I've obviously got a personal interest
here...appologies for being somewhat off-topic.

Jennifer

A just plain evil character is not dull. No one knows how to write one is
all. LaCroix does these things we see as altruistic as a way to make Nick
owe him. A compleately evil character does not cut off his nose to smite
his face. If LaCroix does things to seem good, it gives him more leverage
on the good guys. He keeps us hoping there is a glimmer of good, but he
would shoot us in the back (drain us?) as soon as it fits him better.

Well, I'm Minnesotan, so my Vikings eggs have to be purple & gold <g>

For a Kickstart the Knight idea, you could make little KTK stickers to put on
the Easter eggs.
This could easily be done by printing them out on address labels and then
cutting them up.

Stickers are easily handed out at cons, and as my Star Trek club discovered,
make a great way to connect with the general public.

left France. IN 1208, Pope Innocent the III declared a crusaid against the
Albigensians, also called the Cathars who lived in Southern France. The
Albigensians (dont make me type that word again please) were a religious
group that believed that God was both good and evil instead of God being good
and Satan being evil as most Christians believed. Its very possible this was
the Crusade Nick was apart of. Just thought I'd share!

There's another Sting song that I've always thought very evocative
of Nick and LaCroix' relationship and that is "Fortress Around Your
Heart". :

Under the ruins of a walled city
Crumbling towers in beams of yellow light
No flags of truce, no cries of pity
The siege guns had been pounding all through the night
It took a day to build the city
We walked through its streets in the afternoon
As I returned across the fields I'd known
I recognized the walls that I once laid
I had to stop in my tracks for fear
Of walking on the mines I'd laid

And if I have built this fortress around your heart
Encircled you in trenches and barbed wire
Then let me build a bridge
For I cannot fill the chasm
And let me set the battlements on fire

Then I went off to fight some battle
That I'd invented inside my head
Away so long for years and years
You probably thought or even wished that I was dead
While the armies all are sleeping
Beneath the tattered flag we'd made
I had to stop in my tracks for fear
Of walking on the mines I'd laid

This prison has now become your home
A sentence you seem prepared to pay
It took a day to build the city
We walked through its streets in the afternoon
As I returned across the lands I'd known
I recognized the fields where I'd once played
I had to stop in my tracks for fear
Of walking on the mines I'd laid

Except that, given Nicholas' apparent age of 35 or so in 1228, he would have
been a teenager of 15 in 1208. And we know he went on Crusade after
Delabarre sent him, which was after the very grown-up Nicholas fell in love
with Gwynneth in Wales.

So nope, I don't think he went on the 1208 one. Nice thought, though!

Subject: Re: Nick's Crusade

Hi Everyone:

This is a possibility...but given some of the
other hints in the show (see Queen of Harps where
DelaBarre and the bishop send Nick to the Holy
Land), I'd say it is the Fifth Crusade (c.
1226-1228) that Nick fights in. (Also, he is
brought across in 1228 after coming back.)

The massacres in the Languedoc took place between
1208 and 1220--much too early for Nick to have
taken part in them. Nick's father and delaBarre
would have fought against the Cathars. Given the
latter's attitude towards the Celts, it smacks of
Innocent III's attitude towards the Cathars.

Hope this helps....

Thanks

David

I agree. I don't approve the actions of either one of them. LC is too set
to make his son in his own image, Nick is paranoid to flee and become the
exact opposite in the most extreme way possible, i.e. mortal. Neither one
is thinking with their brains, just act on their hyped emotions to brake

This brings me to a question I wanted to post to the mailing list a while
ago. I've heard two scenarios about Nick in the crusades. One says he was
captured by the Saracens and kept prisoner for a year or so, another
implies that he was just wounded. I believe one of the producers supported
the idea of imprisonment since someone had told them that there were no
Crusades happening around 1228 from which Nick would be returning.
Therefore they decided that he was returning after being freed from
captivity. Is that the dominant impression in the fandom? Or is this one
of the things that everyone has their own opinion about?
