No, it doesn't bother me. It used to. But then I watched the show, and I
realized that there are some very major differences.

However, it is fun to compare. For example, the theme song to Angel --
cellos. :> The camera angles, and weird effects even seem to harken to FK.
If you look closely, there are even some homages to FK. The episode in
which JK was in was recently discussed on the NA list. How about all those
green bottles?

The most commonly asked question I get, as webmistress of the CaddyWhack
site, is whether Nick and Angel had the same car. No, though the same sort
of idea behind it... although it's explained in much more depth on our FAQ.

Subject: the upcoming strike(s) and KtK -- a question

Given the possibility that both the writers and the SAG (Screen
Actors Guild) may be going on strike in the near future, leaving
tee-vee with "reality" shows and reruns, I wonder if the KtK
campaign might remind TPTB that they have FK to fall back on,
and that, given the popularity of Buffy and Angel, the fact that FK
has been off the air for ... several years now ... might give it some
as it were retro novelty value?

(Was that a long sentence, or what <g>?)

As for the recent Tripod situation, please, everybody, bear in mind
that the TOS (Terms of Service) that all of us accept from any
free webhosting service are bound to be as restrictive as possible,
and that, in using a free webhosting service, we are, after all, only
getting what we've paid for. There are enough folks in this fandom
who are attuned to the Internet industry news to be able to tell us
if an *actual* wholesale removal of sites is under way, as opposed
to the accidents to which the Internet is prone.

Sorry--this hits on my husband's pet peeve with both journalists and
movie-makers. People who are shot *often* don't know it immediately;
they're too pumped with adrenaline, from being in a shooting situation, to
'get it' at first. DH, an amateur military historian, picked this up
through reading numerous WWI & WWII memoirs in which the authors repeatedly
say things like "Until my buddy pointed out I was bleeding, I didn't
realize I'd been hit..."

So Tracy's lack of reaction to being shot isn't all that hard to explain.

I know what you mean. I've been watching the show from the beginning and I
noticed almost immediately the similarities with Nick. It's a little
obvious with the whole 'I'm guilty and I must repent my sins' theme. Joss
didn't try very hard for originality, did he?

That idea is a little depressing...but personally I prefer the original over
the rip-off anyday.

Seriously, I always thought that Schanke *knew* and just couldn't admit it
to himself because a cop has to be able to trust his partner, and if he
acknowledged that Nick was a vampire, there'd always be a bit of unease.
After all, although Schanke provides a lot of comic relief, he's clearly not
stupid.

I'd like to add this...

It does surprise me how many people *do* know and *still* recognize Forever
Knight. I *always* get inquiries/responses when I wear my [beautifully <g>]
embroidered FK T-Shirt and/or the matching baseball cap when I go to the
movies, or grocery shopping, or to most other outings. Plus, I don't live
in a large city, but in an outlying suburb of Los Angeles, CA. I'm about 90
miles outside L.A. and we definitely don't qualify as the big-time! I think
that shows how FK Fans are everywhere.

By wearing my FK clothing, which I would do anyway, it has given me the
chance to speak to all sorts of folks about Forever Knight... ranging from
teens -who remember it on CBS when they were little!- to people in their
30's, 40's, and 50's. I am always sure to make a point of encouraging them
to check out the web for Forever Knight sites, and I make sure to tell them
about our wonderful lists.

Certainly this demonstrates that Forever Knight is still alive and kicking
out there in the public's mind and eye I feel that just by wearing my
favorite ensemble, I help continue the fight for FK. We can all do things
like that, and also use the great ideas they have at the Kick Start the
Knight website: http://www.ktk.op.nu/

(And last but not least: Thanks again to the people responsible for my FK
apparel,CD & KnightWitch.) Terrific FK Apparel like mine (which is top
quality stuff, my friends!) can be found at Knightwitch's new site:

(The old URL was not available at the time of this post, but I have included
a *partial* site address to the old URL just so everyone would recognize it-
it was in part: "home.clear.net.nz/knightraven/pages" )

(I know a lot of this post sounds like a commercial for those sites, but I
believe in our show. I am proud to be a part of the effort to bring Forever
Knight back in whatever form we can get. The above webpages assist us all
in this, and I am happy to support them.)

So everyone keep their chin up... And remember... No one dies! No one ever
dies! Nor does our show!!!

I, too, wear my FK shirts, hat and Jacket out in public. To work to And have
a FK license plate in the back of my car window.
No one in public, stores, malls, ect. has ever asked me anything about the

The people at work know about FK because I have made it a point to tell

Still I will keep plugging away trying to bring across as many as I can.
I want it back. In book, movie or a Audio Version of FK, with the original

No, I have no seen Angel or Buffy. I sleep at that time. I'm sure they are a

Yes, The KtK definatly will continue to tell TPTB that they have FK to fall

for the opportunity to see FK again or for the first time in many cases. As a
matter of fact, KtK is also planning on an Easter project on the fans behalf
to let them know how much we do want it back :) but in the
meantime...speaking of TPTB, now would be an excellant time to e-mail Sci-fi

------------------------------------------------

I don't know where you live, but it sounds like FK heaven. I live in a
rather large city, and the words Forever Knight around here are virtually
non-existent. I have an entire FK wardrobe that I wear everyday in all
weather and everywhere. I even have an FK license plate and several FK
bumper stickers plastered all over the front and back of my car. For the
past three years I have never heard a single comment or had one inquiry.
The only people in Pittsburgh that know of FK are the ones I met through the
Internet. I go around looking like a human billboard for FK and no one
acknowledges it. I have even walked into scifi stores where I see posters
of Buffy or Angel, and tried to ask about FK merchandise and they either say
that never heard of the series or they guess completely wrong.

Do not delude yourself into believing that Forever Knight is that well
known. I wish it was. It's late night showings and its migration from
network to network gave even the most devoted of fans a hard time keeping
up.

Although I thoroughly enjoy all the finely crafted FK fan generated
merchandise, I feel that it falls on blind eyes here in Pittsburgh. I
really do not think that Pittsburgh is unique. Unfortunately, Forever
Knight is not a household name in most places.

        You could be surprised.
A couple of days after I got my FK stadium jacket, I wore it to a
showing of the GroundHog Opera in Bradford,Vermont (a fairly
small town some distance from me).
I was coming back up a hallway from buying tickets and I heard
someone behind me say "It's about Vampires."
Clearly someone had seen the jacket and asked a friend what
the logo across the shoulders meant.
There are fans of the Knight out there who don't even realize
there is a gathering place like ours.
They are not as numerous as fans of Buffy, but Buffy has
benefited from a different demographic and a sustained advertising
campaign (and hte fact that it is based on a movie that a lot of
people had heard of at the time didn't hurt it's name recognition
any).

I'm surprised how many people love FK but have never known We the Fans are
out there and gathered. Most of my sister's young friends know the show and
loved it to varying degrees (around here at least it seems more common that
teenagers will know it than the older generations). Sometimes I'll be
talking about it in public with a friend (all of whom I have converted) and
someone will overhear and say something. Unfortunately I don't own any
shirts or anything yet. (Donate to the Tser-needs-clothing fund?)

When I mention FK to friends I have of other fan circles -- X Files or
Buffy -- usually *someone* has heard of it. And usually I get a lot of
questions, since I've spent so much time in this wonderful fandom group to
know all sorts of nitpicky info about the show. ;) Then people find out
people still care about it and are more interested. I'm sure my obsession
goes a little over the top for them sometimes. ;) But they are rightly
obsessed about their shows... this is my only "fandom" I belong to, although
I'm just as obsessive about some other shows... it's just that I like my
fellow FK fans! You're the guys that have kept me here.

It seems most people think it is gone forever... and it's not really. It
certainly lives on here!

She's got RATPACKER recognition!

All those years ago at Bridging the Knight (a charity auction held after the

to San Fransisco. I hadn't been in FK fandom very long at all, and it was PN
Elrod who insisted this was an event NOT to be missed... So I went.

I'm sitting in the auditorium, not knowing anyone, when I notice the woman

She said, "Aren't you Libby? The Ratpacker?"

"Yep."

"I'm Lisa McDavid! You are just so... so... CUTE!"

Well, that's one way to describe a Ratpacker sitting there, droolling while
staring at one object on the stage, waiting for a half eaten dead white lab

And Stormborn asked:
There aren't any blood-sucking demons in China?

Well, there are Chinese vampires but I don't think she
would have known "demon" or "supernatural creature" so
I didn't think I could explain the blood drinking
part.

It's since occurred to me that I should have gone out
to reference and looked in one of our English-Chinese
dictionaries to see if "vampire" was included.

Btw, to all but a couple of others whom I brought
across, FK was known to the rest of the library staff
as "that weird vampire show of yours." :)

I just got back the following as a rejected posting
because the listserv insisted it had been posted
before to Forkni-l. All right, Libby, when did the
list hamsters join the Ratpack and what exactly have
they been indulging in? :)

I'm getting queries, so I'll explain onlist.

PRC = Peoples' Republic of China, aka Mainland China.

Sorry! I have a friend who teaches in Beijing and uses
the acronym so often that I'd gotten used to it.

I'd honestly disagree (I have to base this on a much
vaster knowledge of BTVS vampires than FK.) I think
BTVS dehumanizes the vampires far more than FK. Most
BTVS vampires couldn't pass. Spike, Angel, Dru and
Darla are exceptions, not the rule. (Spike has the
chip the iniative put in his head, Angel has his soul,
Dru's psychic and insane, and Darla...well, Darla's
got all kinds of problems.) Most of the vamps Buffy
stakes seem...very animal. They look human when they
want to, but it's mostly to lure in the next meal. FK
vampires seem to act like humans, even among
themselves. (Of course, none of this is traditional
aka "real" vampirism. I've never seen a historically
accurate vampire in any fictional media. Of course,
they wouldn't be much fun to watch.)

Well, yeah, now they do, but I'd say they're about
even, evil-wise, when they're both giving in to their
worse natures. (Angel's only had 240 years, give or
take, but as Angelus he racked up a heck of a body
count.) Nick did more or less the same thing.

Yes, but remember *why* he changed himself back--he
knew that without the strength and durability he got
from being a vampire, he couldn't fight demons any
more, and that put Buffy at an additional risk. (For
those who don't watch the show, Buffy and Angel have
the whole tragic, impossible love thing going on, or
at least they did.) He's basically in the middle of a
war, and he's a more valuable fighter as a vampire
than as a human.

I wouldn't call her an enemy...more like a very
uncertain ally. She had a chance to dust him once and
didn't, and back then she had even less reason to
trust him. And do you mean Nick would be more
reluctant to bite her or more reluctant to save her,
period? Because I don't think he'd hesitate to try
and rescue someone. Bite her, yeah, I can see him
hesitating. Nick has some MAJOR self-control issues
in that regard.

> Oh yeah, and one more thing, did you guys know John Kapelos appeared on

What?!? Which episode? I think I've seen them all?

Bear in mind please I have seen every "Angel" and not
a single complete episode of "Forever Knight." The
last 5 minutes of one and a scene from another...I
think. Was there one with a flashback involving Tsar
Nicholas II and a vampiric Rasputin?

And whoever brougth up Dark Shadows--I've often
wondered what would happen if Natalie and Julia
Hoffman traded notes--though I never really liked
Julia. Always wanted to see Barnabas and Maggie, or
Barnabas and Vicki.
