Um...eventually. I've been told that Homestead takes F.O.R.E.V.E.R. to
download. It's not terribly easy to get it to upload either.

Errm...who said anything about it being *good*? It's 750kb of angsty
melodrama! Written for Touched by an Angel fans who had never even heard of
Forever Knight (yes, little devious me was trying to start something within
their hallowed halls. elol)

I'll start posting just as soon as I cobble together a foreward for it.
About 18kb per post, right? <g>

GWD is indeed 5' 11". NB is 6'. But LC is taller because NB wore special
shoes to make the vampire master appear significantly taller than Nick. 3"
was the critical number, although I don't remember whether the shoes made NB
3" taller than he actually is or 3" taller than Nick. Anybody remember?

As for Nick & LC being giants among men of their times (as mortals),
is it possible they were not so tall as mortals? Perhaps they, too,
had suffered from less-than-perfect nutrition during their formative
years and owe their current height to the curative powers of vampirism?????

5'0" sounded a little short to me for Henry VIII, even given that a king
will get credit for being taller than other people, calling him "Great"
because of his height sounded a bit off. I hunted around for info, and the
Encyclopedia Britannica online
(http://www.britannica.com/bcom/eb/article/1/0,5716,40871+1+40026,00.html?kw
=henry%20viii) gives Henry VIII's height as 6'0", which would be very tall,
but not giant, for that era. Nick and LaCroix will have been tall but not
enormous. That they have all their own teeth will have been more
surprising, but they didn't have processed sugar then.

The Romans thought that the Germans were very tall, which tells us that they
were more than 5'5" on average. Given Lucien's blonde hair, the Romans will
probably have assumed that he had some Gaul or German blood.

The upper classes will have been taller than the lower classes, because
they'd be more likely to have adequate nutrition (including some meat) in
childhood and adolescence; so Nick & Lucius will have been assumed to be
tall, presentable aristocrats.

The average height of the Roman male during the empire was about 5'4" -
5'5", I read somewhere (probably based on the length of their stride, which
they used as a distance measurement, plus the size of the armour & what
skeletons they've found). So picture the Roman army as a bunch of shortish
but VERY TOUGH guys - and yes, Lucius would have been pretty big, but not a
giant!

The boots (which I hear were terribly uncomfortable) made NB appear to be 6'3".

Was part 11 cut off accidentally due to line spacing? This was how it ended for
me. Seemed like the sentence should continue. I'm dying to know what happens
next!

Subject: Does LaCroix have his own site?

Hi Everyone,

Below is a website that I just had to pass on...

It cracked me up; I could just see LaCroix, sitting before his laptop,
pointing out things in the 3-D re-creations sections...

Perhaps he's muttering, "No,no, no. They've got this wrong. That wasn't
the way it was. The mortal fools! Now, *I* could tell them about old Rome."

or, if the depictions are correct, "These mortals and their computers.
Even *I* am impressed."

Or what about... "Yes, I am quite pleased with this. Those site developers
followed my directions exactly. Finally, the internet has *decent*
information about Rome!"

I visited the site yesterday and the 3-D visuals seemed like they would be
great, (although I didn't download them yet due to their size, I am using a
dial-up connection, and my own time constraints.) The majority, if not all,
of the site looks like it could be a wealth of fanfic information for anyone
writing LaCroix, particularly if the fic has anything to do with Rome.

The URL is:
http://www.capitolium.com/eng/virtuale/webview.htm

This is what the blurb that came with the URL said:
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Feeling a little wistful about your last trip to the Eternal City?
Don't let a skimpy bank account hold you back; with this live Web cam,
you can check out some of Rome's coolest ruins without leaving your
desk. The real-time video pans by the Roman Forum, Coliseum, St.
Peters, and more. Since you take control of the camera, you choose
what you want to watch. You can pan left or right, up or down, and
zoom in and out. Two cameras give you a complete panorama. When you're
finished checking out the glory of Rome, click on some of the history
links as well as 3-D recreations of what these sites looked like 2000
years ago.

Hope you like it.

Hi Everyone:

That site is great and I have referred to it from
time to time. Another site that I am using in
preparation for a fanfic is "Pompeii: Lost City
Revealed" from the Discovery Channel at
http://www.discovery.com/news/features/pompeii/pompeii2.html
. It may not be the most academic site, but it
has detail on the city both leading up to and
during Vesuvius' eruption.

Thanks for listening. Back to work on the
History site now!

Sincerely,

David

and if so, what his reaction was.

I addressed this in a V4S episodes... I think it was called WHEN DARKNESS
FALLS, though I may be confusing my story titles (I tend to do that a lot<g>)
