<grin> It was abt a quarter to eight at night. The store was closing in
fifteen minutes. One minute I'm silently praying that those fifteen minutes
would just go faster, the next I'm looking at the guy &the card &the
darkness outside and my interest had increased triplefold ;)

Hi Becky and the rest of the fabulous KtK crew!!!!

What a beautiful revamp of the KtK site!!!! I have spent the last
half hour exploring all the changes, and I can't wait to go back to view the
rest. As always you have done a wonderful job at keeping FK current and
assessable to all. Your new products look great, so expect to start
receiving orders soon. Thank you for all your hard work and for making
being a FK fan such an easy and pleasant thing to do.

...it could become both.

There were times during First Season that Nick was plagued by visions of
LaCroix's 'blue ghostie'.
I just had a sudden thought: Has there ever been a fanfic where *LC* was
the one seeing a vision of Nick? I mean one that did not take place after
Last Knight as I'm sure there must have been at least one of those 'guilt
fics.'

If LaCroix was to start seeing Nick mirages, what would the circumstances
be?

Just an interesting thought that will probably plague *me* all through the
(k)night.

Hi everybody,
I just checked out the new KTK site and it is wonderful.
KUDOS to the folks at KTK.
Thanks for the info on sending plain text on AOL 6.0 I am
trying it out with this post so we will see if the method
works.

Actually, what modern scholarship has revealed is the wrongness of the idea
that the farther you go back in time the "worse" things were. The Victorian
era, particularly in cities, were a low point in human hygiene, nutrition
and health generally....In some ways their ancestors fared much better.

For example, "modern" man has terrible problems with teeth. But ancient
people, even slaves (to quote one anthropologist looking over the remains
culled from Pompeii and Herculaeneum) "had beautiful teeth," because their
diet wasn't full of the foods that stimulate decay.

Of course, for the poor and laboring classes in both LC's time and Nick's,
your work had a profound effect on your health. Anthropological studies of
Burgundian peasants of the late Middle Ages show that they had excellent
teeth and were well-built and healthy, with no sign of chronic disease. But
miners' remains show terrible deformities as well as signs of toxic
materials, such as lead.

On the cleanliness issue, there's a modern comparison: If you go to an urban
slum in India, you will see people who are dirty, because they have very
little choice. (And you will see people taking what opportunities they can
get to wash their clothes and themselves.) If you visit a very poor rural
area in India in a season where water is available (or where water is
plentiful year round, as in Kerala) you will meet people whose clothes,
living spaces and persons are cleaner than those of not a few teenage
American boys I know.

I think that's part of what I said. Victorian, and since we were the first
country to industrialise, Georgian cities, were dangerously unhealthy
places for the poverty-stricken, but the reduction in height of the urban
poor, compared to their ancestors, didn't take happen overnight.(One of
the Ripper's victims was nicknamed 'Long' Liz for her exceptional height.
She was all of four feet, eleven inches, if memory serves.) City life had
been dirty, overcrowded and hazardous for centuries -- one account of life in
12th century York is hair-raising. <g> And yet the rural poor kept arriving,
so life in the countryside must've been unbearably grim.

I said 'worse' in the past for a variety of reasons, although of course it's
far from straightforward: the lack of medical knowledge; the poor treated
with harsh inhumanity; the paucity of philanthropic institutions to help the
old and weak etc.

A recent study of the skeleton of a teenage girl found at Herculaneum with
her arms protectively round that of a smaller child, led experts to believe
that the child had been well-nourished and was the offspring of the girl's
owner. The girl was evidently a slave since her bones provided proof that
she had been half-starved and chronically overworked with labour too hard for
her young frame. This also illustrates the point which I was trying to make,
obviously not too clearly, <g> --- the lack of control that most individuals
possessed over their life/destiny until fairly recent times, and the
harshness and lack of compassion to which the weaker members of
society were routinely subjected in the past.

Sorry, it's just an idea. Nasty foul smelling little imps walled in

Subject: Return of the Knighties

The Knighties website has returned!!!!!!

I have taken over the Knighties website from Karen Tobin.
Thanks for the files Karen!!

I have made a few changes to the site, so that it conforms to its new home.
However, it is essentially the same as it's last update in March 1997.
Therefore, many of the links and some of the info are still outdated.

I wanted to make its content available asap, so I have posted what I have
and will make updates and corrections as real life permits.

For all those Knighties that would like me to include your name and/or
email address on the site, please contact me at the sites email

I would also love to post as much knightie fanfic as possible to to the
site. I already have a few pieces.

Marel wrote...well, a lot of insightful stuff. Dragging this frantically back
on-topic before McLisa steps in, I do want to ponder that most of the FK vamps
were aristos of one sort or the other, with the exception of Screed. I wonder
if, when purposely making a fledgling, the master vampire would choose someone
who would be able to blend in more with later generations.
