I just wanted to add another note to Lib's well worded post. As hard as it
is to believe, there are still people out there who have never SEEN Forever
Knight, even ones with cable. I was that way until the summer of '99. If
Sci-fi hadn't been showing re-runs and I hadn't been stuck indoors feeling
under the weather and half-snoozing through stuff on TV that day, I never
would have found it myself! Then I wouldn't have found all these incredible
characters to obsess over! <gasp> Life without Vachon?????<G>

I probably would STILL not have a computer in my home, which I got
specifically because Sci-fi dropped FK from their line-up and I was feeling
bereft and alone, and the Internet was the only place I could find it. That
means I never would have found the FK Fandom, the fantastic websites, and
all the wonderful mailing lists and terrific people that I've met here. No,
I don't think it's a dumb thing to ask for re-runs to come back as well as
merchandise. As long as it's airing, there's always the potential new FK
addict to be "brought across".

Doesn't curare have an intoxicating effect on vampires in very small doses?
If that's true, theoretically a drink could be spiked with it.

Good thing vampires don't get colds, because this soup is the only thing I
ever found that helped me get over them

2 cups water
1 large BULB garlic
1 onion
salt
cayenne
1 beaten egg

Peel and cut up garlic cloves and onion; throw into boiling water; cook five
minutes; toss in salt and cayenne; pour in beaten egg while stirring like
crazy; remove from heat and eat at once. The cold won't know what hit it.
neither will your nearest and dearest, who will move to a motel for the next
3 days - but you'll feel much better! (g)

<snip> Heck, she put up a better fight than Vachon did: "Ow, you're hurting my
wrist, you snotty little girl! Ow!" LOL! <snip>

Oh, snicker! Teeheehee!

<snip> I just don't know when this epiphany would have happened. We don't see
Urs at all between Trophy Girl and Ashes To Ashes (of course, an appearance in
Avenging Angel would have been more than appropriate). Hmm, but here's something
interesting: what if Urs got sick in Fever like everyone else? What if she came
so close to dying that she finally realized that she didn't want to die
anymore?<snip>

I like that scenario! I vote for the fever as a nice reason for an epiphany.
We have no proof that she got sick, but she certainly wasn't a stranger to
people who did. And the thing about the fever was the 'first hunger stage'
was the roughest part. After that, the sick seemed to slip into fatigue. If
Urs had still wanted to die and was at the point of being very ill, wouldn't
it have seemed an opportunity to take advantage of, easier than walking into the
sun?

<snip> Um, ah. Huh? Cross-friendly whatever? Not to get off the Urs/Nick
wagon, but Bourbon was in two episodes, too. I mentioned Alma and Brianna
specifically because, if you take away HoD, Urs's lines could have been given
to just about anyone. <snip>

Okay, I went to Misinterpretation Land there for a bit. I see what you meant
about Brianna and Alma specifically in contrast to Urs. The reason why I added
in names like Bourbon to my list is that, though we saw him more than once, we
didn't get the kind of mortal history and motivations for him that we did with
that one episode for Urs. I was listing characters I thought were very incomplete,
so they didn't have a lot of room for debates as lengthy and verbose as the ones
we've had about Urs!

<snip> As far as the "She has a twin sister" line goes -- just so know one says
that I'm conveniently forgetting about it. Well, I say, maybe she's tipsy! Or,
maybe she's just referring to the little know fact that Vachon has a thing for
twins. ;-)<snip>

And does that line alone define Urs' intelligence? Naaaaaah!

Case in point: What comes out of my mouth half the time in no way reflects
my actual IQ. I'm talking what I say off the cuff, here, not what I've
had time to think about and write down. I can be a real twit in the flesh.
(Someone's bound to back me up on this. <g>) Okay, I can be a real twit in
print, too - but that's not my point!

My mom always prescribed ginger as a good cure it all. At the onset of a
cold boil some ginger beaten in some water with rock sugar (for the taste)
and drink it down as hot as you can take it, then bundle yourself off to
bed. Burns (not just from the hot liquid) all the way down but it makes you
feel good the next day. An sore throats? Chew and swallow some white
radish (ieww) it's supposed to help.

Well, my grandmother used to make a concoction of hot tea with honey, lemon,
and about 4 cloves of chopped garlic. It tasted like ick, but it made your
cold go away. My Mom makes natural home remedies, so she always had some of
this around when a cold or flu strikes.

 5 bulbs of garlic, crushed
 juice of two lemons
 1 pint of honey
1 pint of bourbon, whiskey, or rum

Combine the first two ingredients in a saucepan over the stove on medium
heat. Wait till it boils and then take it off the stove and let cool. Pour
into the honey and then stir in the liquor. Seal in an airtight container and
store in a cool dry place. If properly sealed, it is good for up to 3 months.
The liquor keeps it from going bad, and it also helps to get the medicine
into your system faster.

I never saw it last past 3 months because my mother gave two tablespoons of
it to me everytime I looked at her cross-eyed. It doesn't taste great, but I
would rather take that than Robitussin.

Hi,
Coming out of lurkdom to make a comment on Luc's post. I strongly
support working to get FK released on video, with all the missing footage
edited out for commercials and whatnot. I, however, do see a really good
reason to get the show back on the air even if it is only in reruns. I
notice that after FK was removed from Sci-Fi's morning line-up, all of the
lists got a lot quieter. Now, I really liked the show, don't get me wrong,
but I also love all the FK communities I subscribe to and would hate to see
them dwindle out because the show is off the air. It seems to me that we
also don't see nearly the amount of new list members since the show is gone.
Luc, I think you are 100% correct, we should put effort into getting the
show on tape and DVD, but also, we can't give up trying to get it back on the
air. That common goal is a large part of what has kept us united for ages
now anyway. If all we do is work on tapes, once everyone owns all the
episodes I think we could see the end of most of the lists.
Just my humble opinion,
Patty

It must be this topic that's pulling all the lurkers out of the shadows. I
watched FK from the very beginning when it was part of "crimetime after
primetime". I have all the episodes on tape (including the canadian 1st
season eps.) and have no real reason to contiune to fight for the show.
However, I have religiously sent my letter to TPTB each and every month
since the first airing of "Last Knight." I hated to see SciFi pull FK
because now in order to "bring people accross" I have to use my over-viewed
copies. Continuing to fight for the show can't hurt and with enough tenacity
we all can wear down TPTB untill they give us new shows, pro-videos, more
merchandise, more books etc.

Okay, I'm done ranting and going back to the shadows now.

Which is the best FK item below??

a.) Posting the last part of a great story

b.) Eating my first souvlaki (in Schanke's

c.) Listening to both parts of the FK

d.) All of the above...

In my case, the answer was d. I had spent the

Guys, please, let's watch the topics. Food and drink
only belong on the list if we're talking about them in
connection with Forever Knight. Also, vampire habits
need to be either specifically FK vampires or in
comparison to FK vampires.

There's a reason for the topic rule, which is one of
the oldest. It predates either of my tenures as

limited time, or both. Others aren't interested in
non-FK vampires. So, we have the rule about FK topics
and FK vampires only.

Or else I just may start e-throwing things. :)

Seriously, guys, please. The rules are posted every
Sunday. They plainly say that there is a 4-line limit
on how much of the previous post you can quote. It
also says plainly that you can't quote the entire
previous post at the beginning or end.

I'm making allowances for the fact that line lengths
vary in some mailers. That doesn't excuse the way some
posters repeatedly ignore the rule about quoting the
entire previous message. If you don't know whether
your mailer is doing this, check before sending. If
you don't know how to stop it, find out from your help
desk.

Lately I've had to take time I don't really have to
warn people about this and have been ignored.

Please realize that when you are asked politely
offlist to stop something, "these are not
suggestions." If you don't understand or don't know
how to stop whatever it is, then write and tell me so.
Otherwise I have to assume you think you don't have to
obey the rules and I _will_ enforce them by nopost or
even removal from the list.

To the vast majority, who make administering this list
a joy and who simply occasionally make mistakes (just
like me <g>), thank you.

Actually FK actors don't get residuals. Nigel Bennett
explained that at a con I attended. It seems CAFTRA
(or whatever the name of the Canadian union involved
is) had a policy of buyouts, whereby producers paid
the actors an upfront sum in lieu of residuals. It was
nothing at all comparable to US residuals, but the
theory was that Canadian shows didn't do the same kind
of reruns that US ones do.

This was, of course, established before so many US
shows were filmed in Canada. I think I've heard that
the policy has since been changed.

Ok, I know it sounds weird, but I'm sentimentally connected to Robitussin.
One night I was coughing up storm, and my mom came in to comfort me, but we
had no cough medicine. So my dad drove to the store at one in the morning
to get me some. I didn't mind the taste so much then. :)

Subject: Question for fic

I seem to recall that there are one or two people on list who
are familiar with law enforcement procedure. IIRC, there
is at least one person who is the spouse of a police officer.
I have a question regarding police procedure that I would
rather not post onlist. If someone with knowledge there-
of would please contact me offlist, I would really appreciate
it.

Thanks,
Laurie of the Isles

I apologize as well. Though I also thank all of you for the great cold
cures! I'm just going to go terrorize Nick with the garlic soup. And tea.
And the ginger tea. well, I could keep him scared for a while. I wonder if
he would make any for Nat if she got sick. Hmmmm.

Hey guys, let's try to give our listmommy more support and take the rules here
seriously! Having joined a list for another fandom, I've come to see how
spoiled I am by the excellence with which this list is run. My inbox is often
swamped with a lot of inane msgs, like -- "me too" and "well, my doggie is
getting her nails clipped" and on and on. I also find myself scrolling through
a long quote of the previous msg just to find the reply, which is usually along
the lines of "I couldn't agree more about your bunion doctor, and my tulips...."
"g" Anyway, believe me, the rules are there for a very good reason, and if you
have any concerns or confusion, McLisa and Don are always willing to answer
questions and provide help.

Subject: FK on TV?

Speaking of my other fandom, someone on that list just sent a msg saying that
some Canadian channel called Showcase TV airs FK everyday at noon?? Anybody else
know anything about that???

Yes, Portia, FK airs here every week-day in Canada on the Showcase
channel. Today was the ep where Nick joins the sun cult. Something fun to
do when you visit Canada is to watch the FK eps on TV, not on tape!

Yes it does. Showcase is a Canadian first-tier cable channel that
shows a lot of Canadian made shows. It has been airing FK non-stop
since 1996 and next weekend it will start re-airing Ger's program
Black Harbour.

Speaking of Ger, his ep of Robocop: Prime Directives aired in
Toronto last night. He's a delightfully evil megalomaniac genius in
this show.
