Yes, especially if you have Lactose Intolerance?

Lactose Intolerance is an allergic reaction or inability to digest milk
sugar (lactose). In adults, symptoms include bloating, gas, nausea,
diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Children who cannot tolerate lactose will
often have diarrhea and an inability to gain weight normally. A deficiency
of lactase (enzyme that breaks down the lactose sugar) occurs normally in
approximately 75% of all adults coming from ethnic groups: 90% of
Orientals, 75% of Native Americans and Blacks. Only the people from
Northwest European descent have an incidence of less than 20% of lactose
intolerance- or lactase deficiency.

I've always been the death of my fave fantasy shows.
Vr.5, Beauty & The Beast, Millennium, all bit the dust
when I got into them. Has there been any FK fan fict
crossing over into any of those? Current faves are
Dark Angel (didn't the actor who played the serial
killer LaCroix kept in contact with by e-mail recently
play a child abuser there?) and Freakylinks, which is
already treading water.

Hi all,

I'm surprised in retrospect that only "The Fix" let
present day Nick briefly walk around as a mortal. I
can easily see a two-parter, where Nick finally did
get his mortality back, but had to deal with tracking
somebody really dangerous down without his vampiric
abilities, resulting in his needing LaCroix to bring
him across again.

I never thought Nick was dim, but I found his
inability to control bringing others across a bit
annoying. He was able to do it Nat's brother, with the
doctor during the plague, but killed Nat and his wife.
It's not like he didn't have the time to master his
abilities, as he was enjoying himself for awhile
before guilt kicked in.

I can't see Nick with Urs. On the other hand, Tracy
and Vachon weren't exactly a perfect match either,
even though they balanced each other off. I do think
Nat would've remained in love with Nick, even after
the loss of vampiric side. She seemed to have a
problem with Nick's long walk through history,
possibly a bit of envy there, with the historical
people Nick had met and maintained friendships with.
Example: when Nick was trying to regain his memory, he
started to recall being friends with Beethoven, and as
Nat sussed out who he was talking about, she begged
off. Only once, holding Joan of Arc's cross, did she
seem to want to hear more about it.

 From what I'm seeing, yeah that was pretty much it.  It made sense for
them to do more episodes because of the relatively low cost of the show,
but to be honest, they wouldn't have bothered if they didn't have the PR
possibility of using the fan thing to work for them.

Being a little on the other side of the fence now (in my new job, I helped
buy a television series to air on our stations last week), I've found a few
more people to talk to.  In fact, I talked to a rep who was a Rhysher rep
when everything hit the fan back in November of 1995.  He spotted my FK
jacket and that launched us into a great conversation.

We were sunk from the word go.  Period.

Our only two consolations are that USA had to pay MORE to get the rest of
the third season episodes than they would have if they'd stayed with their
original participation contract and that a way WAS found to found those
last episodes.

Look at the Nikita thing as a chance for USA to make itself look fan-friendly.

Personally, I locked USA from my channel box in January of 1996 and haven't
unlocked it since.  Vindictive?  Me?

The wallet that contained the license was donated to and sold at a Ger
Weekend.  I believe the license was in it without the
picture.  Unfortunately, I didn't write anything down or take detailed pics
before it was sold.  And I don't remember who got it.  But it's out there.

Greetings:

Aside from agreeing wholeheartedly with Libs about the
depth of Nat's ... sensitivity towards her ratman <g>, I
think I've always had a problem with the idea that NAT
believes/feels/thinks that Nick is the love of her life.

Of course she's attracted to him! Of course she cares for
him, and is fascinated by him. But I think that, rational
professional scientist that she is, she can with the proper
scepticism look at her feelings and (1) realize that some
of her reaction to Nick is what we used to call "a crush";
(2) that a fantasy life together as Mr. and Mrs. Mortal Knight
is just that, a fantasy; and (3) she would be honest enough to
understand that (as with LaCroix and Nick) the chase --
the search for a cure, the setbacks emotional, physiological,
and behavioral -- all make Nick that much more attractive to
her.

I respect Nat enough to believe that the most import thing for
her is to help Nick find a cure, not to land an ex-vamp husband.
(In the same ... er ... vein, I don't believe that Lacroix wishes to
crush Nick's rebellion, or to have an acquiescent Nick to follow
him slaveishly through the millennia <gak>.)

On the other hand, Urs is very attractive and Nick quite often demonstrates
that he has no prejudices towards other women in the series who lack
reticence about displaying their physical charms in a manner one could
uncharitably interpret as cheap and trashy. To take one example, he was
extremely attracted to a blonde killer in season one, and although she was
both an exotic dancer and a student of law (?), her intellectualism and powers
of conversation didn't seem to be the chief draw. In fact, and I found it
irritating as the series progressed, it seemed to me that apart from Janette and
Natalie, and a few, very few, other female characters, the casting/writing of
Nick's inamorata did the character a disservice, by suggesting a superficiality
to his sexual/emotion interaction with women that the depth and complexity of
his relationships with Natalie and Janette belied.

Hi All.  We have sad news (again).

 Our maternal grandmother passed away at 1:00 a.m. (Pacific) this morning.  We
have been here in So. California since Wednesday, since we knew it was coming.
She had cancer and finally lost the battle with it.
 The good news was that she didn't lose the war. She was a Christian and I know
that she is in Heaven. (I know some of you do not share my faith, but please,
bear with me.)
 I am just glad that she is not suffering anymore.
 We will be here until after the funeral, which is supposed to be sometime in
the next few days, and then we will head home.
 I've been checking my email on my in-laws computer off and on, so I've been
kind of keeping up on what's going on.  I am not reading any of the fic that has
posted or most of the other messages, as I will do that when I get home.  I have
just been too busy and too upset.
 Please pray for our family, as we struggle through this difficult time.
 Love and miss you all.

I can't recall the episode, or the ability in question, but there
was an instance where LaCroix taunted Nick to do something,
and then said something like "Ah, but we skipped that lesson
didn't we?"  It seems there were a number of things that LaCroix
held back from teaching Nick, I would think to keep Nick at a
disadvantage, and more dependent on him.  The fine art of
successfully bringing someone across could well have been
one of the lessons that was given short shrift.

IIRC, Janette too confesses that she hasn't had much success
with creating vampires, so maybe LaCroix adopted the same
"parenting technique" with all his children, as a control
mechinism.  If his children could successfully create offspring
of their own, their focus would shift from him to their new
progeny.  Can't have *that*! <g>

I believe she is a Medical Examiner, M.E. for short.

I don't think Urs is vacuous. I've met vacuous people in my day; two of them
work where I do and it's all I can do to restrain myself from slapping them each
and every time I am forced to interact with them!  Urs doesn't illicit this same
response from me.  I think Urs is shy, lonely, depressed, spiritually lost,
insecure, but not vacuous.

I can certainly see Urs having a crush on Nick -- he has been nice to her in the
few scenes they've shared.  And I can also see her being fascinated with his
quest for mortality -- it's probably the first time she's even encountered such
a notion, let alone seen another vampire actively pursuing it!!

Think about it.  Urs doesn't want to be a vampire and live for eternity.  Urs
wants to die, but she can't bring herself to do the deed.  Becoming mortal again
would solve her problem.  She's already lived 120-odd years!  What's another 60
or so years to be able to die at the end of a normal mortal's life-span?

So, their may not be a romance brewing here, but I definitely think these two
have A LOT to talk about!  Nick could tell Urs all about his quest for humanity
-- the whys and hows and consequences he's encountered.  And he may even be able
to instill in her a love for life -- which Vachon has obviously not been able to
do -- since Nick wants to be mortal even though he wants to live.

As far as Nick goes, well, I think he has a wide ranging taste in women!  You
never know what conversation with him will reveal in Urs -- she has lived an
entire century, and that's a long time to live without learning anything
interesting.  She and Vachon may not sit beside the evening fire and swap
astro-physics theories, but then how many of us do?  She may, however, be very
well read.  She may be fascinated with films.  She may have an insatiable thirst
for Medieval European History, or politics!  We simply don't know because we
didn't get enough screen time with her.

Why do you think this -- a feminist's nightmare?

Not to get into a feminist arguement here, but I thought the point of feminism
was to give women the rights to do whatever they chose -- whether that's to go
out and be some corporate mogul or to stay at home and raise the kids.

Maybe Urs LOVES to dance?  Maybe she dances in nightclubs because they actually
PAY her and she likes the security of having money -- Nick has lots of money,
and while he gives lots of it away to charity, I think he also knows that
whammying a person can't get you everything that money can -- and somehow I
don't think all that bottled blood at the Raven is free.  And maybe getting paid
to dance in nightclubs allows her to NOT date any guy who happens to cozy up to
her with a crisp $50.00 bill in his pocket.  And, maybe having money allows her
to NOT live in a sewer with Screed or a condemned church with Vachon.  Earning
money would give her what it gives everyone, a better chance at a bit of
freedom.

I think Urs showed strength when she finally confronted Vachon about bringing
her across.  I think she showed strenght when she confronted Jacqueline in HoD.
I think she showed strength when she prevented Nick from saving
Ellen/Monica/Jacqueline from leaping to her death.  I also think she showed
strength in going to Nick after she found Vachon injured in AtA.  Which, if I
may be allowed an aside here, is VERY interesting to me -- she goes to *Nick* at
this point and not to LaCroix, or anyone else.

I think there was a lot more strength in Urs than we saw simply because we saw
so little of her.

Enabler?  You mean Urs enabling Nick?  Or Nick enabling Urs?  I think there is
an arguement for either, but I think there is also an agrument for them actually
helping each other: Urs finally having a relationship with a man which wasn't
based solely on sex, and Nick having someone to help, to teach, who could also
make him feel that his quest for mortality isn't a solitary one.  I think a
Nick/Urs relationship would do a lot for each of their self-esteem.

Subject: FK on Pro Video!

Hi guys,

I just found out about this recently. Forever Knight is on professional
video. It is included in a vampire documentary called "Vampires- The Thirst
for the Truth." This video is 100 min. in length and features glimpses of
Nick, LaCroix, and even Vachon in vamp mode several times through-out the
film. There's also a short section for FK, which has short interviews with
Geraint and Nigel. It was made around "Dead of Night," because most stuff is
from that, including a cut-never made to TV, sword fight with Nick and
LaCroix.
