Argh!
I just tried to send a story part to the fic list and got this!
What *is* this?!!
Why can't I get this darn story out for gosh sakes---its worse than getting
Nick to give up angstying.

Ah, heck.
If anyone on this list is also on the fic list, you can access The Awakening
by going here:
http://weirdknight2.homestead.com/Stories.html
Otherwise, wait until whatever is wrong at PSU gets fixed.

You know that newspaper comic strip 'Shoe'? Where the Professor bird has a
desk that is so loaded with papers that it looks like the Matterhorn?

Well, my Bookmark Matterhorn has gotten too unwieldy to search thru and fell
on me. So could some kind soul (aw, heck---even a Cousin.. <eg>) forward to
me the addy for the Raven Awards?

And a nice St. Bernard (non-slobbery variety) wouldn't be amiss either.
Have the keg filled with CarboSoy Kafix SoyMilk Cappuchino.

Thanks much!

For those of you who are fans of Jon Cassar's work, the episode of "Sheena"
he directed will be showing tonight. It's on UPN but you'll have to check
your local listings for the time.

Mel works for a small information systems company that got absorbed by a
bigger company. She is part of the "transition team," which means she's
been working absolutely relentless hours. Plus, she's spent the last four
weeks on the road back and forth between home and the new corporate
headquarters. Which is to say that she is: a) too busy even to check her
email at least six days a week, and b) exhausted beyond belief on her
few-and-far-between days off. She is well aware that the site needs
updating and that people are anxious to hear about the fiction awards, but
this work schedule is just about to kill her, particularly since she's not
in perfect health to start with. So please continue to be patient, and send
good thoughts Mel's way--she could use the positive karma. Thank you!

Well, if she needs help, I am more than willing to help her out with some of
the stuff on the site. Updating and stuff. I'm sure that there are plenty of
us around here that are willing to help Mel right? <looks around, arches
eyebrow>
If she would like for me to help with anything, let me know ok? I've got
plenty of time on my hands now that my back is all messed up and I can't work.

In this context, 'bonnie' isn't a proper name, it's an adjective,
roughly equivalent to 'pleasing to the eye' or 'lovely,' with
connotations of healthy/robust and cheerful.

The spelling 'bonny' is also correct.

Other examples include Bonnie Prince Charlie and the song "Bonnie
Susie Cleland." The girl's name was Susie, as was the Prince's. :-)

As for his calling her 'blossom,' I remember the quote she's
referring to, too.

"Ye can do that to me forever if y' like. Will ye, Connor?"
"Aye, blossom, I will."

Personally, most of my YKYBWTMFKW moments lately have been musical.
You know, songs on the radio that you could swear were written for
FK, or normal songs that you start imagining FK lyric changes....

And 'My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean' isn't about a gal named Bonnie; the
guy's just longing for his pleasing to the eye sweetie *with another name*
who's far away.

Then there's the common affectionate form of 'Bonnie' - 'Bon Bon.' Once on
par with chocolate, the nickname now brings to mind Ricky Martin's
'Shake Your Bon Bon,' and he's not singing about wiggling a box of Godiva.
Some of my friends and my grandmother got a big laugh at my expense over that
one.

Hmm...what potential uses of their names could exist to bother the
FK characters?

Could Nick cringe every time he hears a thief describe a job as 'nicking stuff'?
Does the phrase 'in the nick of time' bring on the angst over his endless,
forever night? When Schanke complains that he 'nicked himself shaving,' does
Nick feel linguistically tormented that his name now insinuates the drawing of
blood?

Or does he sit back and enjoy that Ricky Martin song the Nightcrawler's
playing on 'Nightwatch'?

Subject: how much blood do vampires need?

A question which keeps recurring to me lately: how much do vampires drink,
anyway? I find it hard to believe that they need the equivalent of 1 adult
person's blood per day - that would mean that if Nick, Janette & LaCroix
decided to holiday in Vienna for a month, 93 people would vanish from the
streets of Vienna in the course of the month; hard to hide even in a major
city. Staying in a small hamlet would be impossible, even for a single
vampire. If the place only has a population of 1000, missing 365 in the
course of a year would be pretty obvious! If vampires drank that much, they
would all have been hunted down and slaughtered by enraged townsmen long
before Nick ever became a vampire.

When we see Nick, LaCroix and Janette hunting, they seem to bring down only
one person for the three of them in a night. On the other hand, when they
find themselves trapped in a building with 2 runaway slaves, a man and a
boy, LaCroix proposes draining them both. So it seems that they can survive
.3 person/vampires per day (if not less), but they can drink more than that
if it's available - 1 man + 1 boy = 1.5 people (say), divided by three
vampires would be .5 person/vampire.

We often see Nick drinking a glass of cow's blood, or a bottle of it. A
bottle is about 1 quart. There are about 5 quarts in a human body (am I
right about that?) But perhaps he needs to drink more cow's blood than he
would human blood? My point is, if he had to drink 5 bottles of cows' blood
a day, would we see him sipping it from wine glasses? Or would we see him,
at the very least, swigging out of sports water bottles?

Does anyone have any idea how much blood a vampire really needs? Would one
person a week per vampire be sufficient? If it were one person per month,
the rate would be low enough that perhaps a small vampire community could
survive in a city for awhile without detection. Perhaps they fill in with
rodent blood, but don't talk about it because it embarrasses them?

I'm just trying to figure out the logistics here...

I know that as a vampire gets older, he doesnt need as much as often as when
their younger. they dont need an adult every day...but what happens is that
when they become a vampire they die...and they need blood to keep things like
their muscles working..and the blood in their systems is slowly used up and
absorbed so they need to keep replenishing the supply..its like gas in a
car.....if you fill it up every time you use up 1/4th a tank, then you don't
need a lot before the car's full again
