Subject: Blood and Donuts

This movie has been on recently; I've bumped into the middle of it twice now and
am anxiously searching for the beginning.  Lost this month's Direct TV Guide
(probably recycled it thinking it was the September issue) and so every day I
read the klutzy satellite guide as far into the future as it will go, looking
for this movie.  I believe it was on at least two of the following channels:
Encore, Starz, and/or Showtime.

It was from 1995 and the actor who played the vampire was Michael Currie.  He
looked enough like Vachon that I wondered if TPTB were seeking a Currie look
alike when they hired Ben Bass.  Did it come out early in '95 so that there
would have been sufficient time before casting third season for this to be
true?

There were a number of similarities to FK, including a close-up of some keys
on somebody's belt (hommage?) but perhaps it was all coincidence magnified by
my, uh, special interest.  [Now who said "obsession"?!  Let's be nice.]

This film was more light-hearted and campy than FK (loved the scene where the
camera pans from the deceased pigeon to Boyo, who, trying to look ever so
innocent, quickly blows away a pair of incriminating feathers stuck to his
mouth).  Yet it had its tragic ending.  So, not as comic as _Nightlife_ with
Keith Szarabajka (another doctor tries to cure vampire movie) but not as
introspectively serious as FK can be.

The "donut shop junkie" was played by Earl Pastko, better known around these
parts as Miklos, if I'm not mistaken.  He's evidently in the part I keep
missing. Anybody out there have a Direct TV guide?

I was once going to buy some story audio tapes of original stories, but I
lost the site addy from whence they were being sold.  (They were mostly
UFfish, but had some general ones as well.)

Anybody have it?

Many thanks to those who have helped me acquire some FK in Spanish!  I've got
a few episodes from Spain and a few more from somewhere in Spanish America
other than Argentina or the Carribean area, judging from the accent.  The
Spanish-American version was apparently edited to fit a half-hour time slot,
often omitting amusing dialogue in favor of filler scenes supplied only to
flesh out the Canadian version.  I suppose it lowered the cost of dubbing, since
the fillers featured the mute Caddy and the equally mute Nick-brooding-in-
the-loft-with-candlesticks.  The Spanish versions seem to be complete (all
second season).  In Latin America, Natalie has a higher voice than we're used to
hearing and it's hard to distinguish Nick's voice from LC's.  In Spain, Natalie's
voice is back to normal and Schanke sounds exactly as though they'd hired Kapelos
to do the dubbing after teaching him to speak Spanish like a native.  In Spain,
Schanke is pronounced with a /sh/ by absolutely everybody (so far) and Nick
seems to have been brought across twenty years later, though he looks not a day
older... or younger. <g>  The introduction we all know and love and can recite
in our sleep was translated differently in the two versions. Titles differ,
too:

Spanish America (or some Spanish station in the U.S.??):
        El hombre de las tinieblas                [tinieblas = twilight]
        E'l fue transformado en 1228.
        Despojaba a los humanos de su sangre.
        Ahora quiere ser mortal otra vez,
        compensar a la sociedad por sus pecados,
        emerger de su antigu(dieresis)o mundo
        y dejar de ser.... el hombre de las tinieblas.

Spain
        El señor de las tinieblas
        Sufrio' la transformacio'n en 1248 (sic)
        Se alimentaba de sangre humana.
        Ahora quiere volver a ser mortal,
        compensar a la sociedad por sus pecados,
        salir de su mundo de oscuridad,
        salir de su noche eterna.

In my opinion, the second translation is more elegant and more liberated from
awkward anglicisms, even if it is somewhat less accurate.  But it still
rounds off to 800 years, so what does it matter?  [Nick:  "Roughly 20 x 365
fewer souls to atone for!]

I'm picturing Milord with an ink eraser, carefully rubbing away the
'Canadian' on his fake birth certificate so that it can be changed to
'Spanish'.    20x365 Souls less is nothing to sneeze at!

You want Dragon's Lair Studios -- http://www.dragonsroar.com/ . They have
hilariously funny FK parodies, and at least one drama tape as well.
Definitely a must-have for anyone wanting a *complete* FK collection. All
stories are original, and not remakes of the episodes. However, the
parodies are definitely "R" rated, and you must be of legal age to purchase
them.

Actually, now that I have discovered that there is such a thing as The
Internet movie database....
  I discovered that the actor was Gordon Currie.....

    I haven't seen either Forever Knight or Blood and Donuts on TV for at
least a year or more. (ever since they cut it from Sci-fi)
  So I assume that you can all understand my confusion in remembering either
one. (sheepish smile)
 And I had thought that Oded Fahr played Miklos. At least that is what I
gathered from here. I honestly don't remember seeing him that often on the
show and according to several FK affiliations on here... it is Oded.
