I think FK pretty much explains his relationship with his father, the way he
was treated by him, accounts for alot of LaCroix' behavior/personality. My
mind is mush today, and I can't remember the name of the ep. with the
flashback that shows LaCroix torturing a man for looking like his father,
with Janette and I think Nicholas also, looking on.

Mmmm...John Calicos, another *great* voice. I think he'd have made a nifty
vampire. I know he has since passed away, but he was very much alive while
FK was in production. He would have made a great "elder". Can you imagine
his and Nigel's voices on the same show? It would have been like "Anne of a

Calicos' voice or Richard Burton's.

I didn't, and don't, suggest telling Sony about anything but a copyright
violation that they're already aware of, On Holy Ground. But I would think
that the cat is already out of the bag. How do you suppose they found out
about the book in the first place? It's not impossible that a Sony lawyer
has already joined Forkni-L, with a view to finding out what other nests of
copyright infringement need to be cleaned up.

One of the reasons I feel strongly about protesting politely, instead of
just lying low, is because I think that fanfic sites may already be next on
Sony's hit list. After all, now that they've started, why would they stop
with Jean?

I thought about that, so I went to the Sony site intending to look for the

Ok I was going to stay out of the mix on this but IMO the difference is that,
in the case of The Book That We Do Not Have, money was exchanging hands.
Even though it was merely for actual cost and Jean wasn't receiving any
financial profit from the sales .. try explaining that to a lawyer. With the
online fiction sites there is no exchange of money. The 'Zines, however,
might be a different story.

Help!!! Anyone familiar with a story (maybe even a series) that told the
story of our dear ones through the eyes of a female psychiatrist(?) turned

ended with the awful events of "Last Knight."

Much as I appreciate the sentiments being expressed, I really have to echo
Nancy Kaminski's warning that we should *not* call Sony's attention to the
fan writing community. So I'd really rather no one write to Sony, or if you
do, please don't mention *or* send "On Holy Ground." There's far too much
information in it that can lead them back to you and all your websites and
fanfic. If you want to boycott Sony and want to tell them so, perhaps you
can say it's because they refuse to license any further FK merchandise.

Overall, it really is best for you all to "lay low" for a while until this
blows over (which I'm praying very hard that it will do).

Thanks, all of you, for your concerns. {{{}}}

Pioneer already has a TV/movie division; it's responsible
for the Tenchi anime series (Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi Universe,

Yeah, we should, but we don't. <G> The last time I tried the
feedback@s....... addy it bounced, although admittedly that was quite a while
ago now so maybe they've brought it back. Can't hurt to try. At the time,
after that addy bounced I searched high and low for any Sony email addys with
no luck. I think now the only way to send feedback to them is via their web
form. I had used that form and asked if there was a feedback email addy for
people whose browsers don't support web forms, but I never got any response.
If anyone else is able to find out anything, I'd love to hear about it so I
can put the info up on the KtK website.

Well, my two cents' worth is that we should all make an effort to write to
the Product Development people at Sony (address, someone?) and ask again for
merchandise. We don't need to mention "the book" at all. What we DO need to
mention is that we have money and we want to spend it on FK merchandise,
whatever form that takes. Remind them that the 3 novels are out of print, and
that we want more. Tell them we'd buy coffee cups, T-shirts, videos,
whatever, as long as it's FK. The more letters they get, the more attention
this will generate. They need to know that we're not going away, and the only
way they're going to know that is if they get a lot of letters.

Thank you, and I'll step back off my soapbox now.

If Lucius' dad owed a big favor to The Big Guy, he might be forced to allow his
son to partake in the entertainments. Having a patrician boy might add spice to
the event. But I'm just guessing here.

I second Nancy's opinion 100 percent! And I don't think she's being an
alarmist at all. While Angela's idea is well-intentioned, it could backfire
on us big time. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just such a well-meaning
message that drew Sony's attention to Jean's novel in the first place.

I'm sure the last thing anyone wants to do is bring down more grief on
Jean's head. Neither do we want to risk losing the freedom we've had to
play with and enjoy all things FK. For the sake of the fandom, please,
please think carefully about the possible repercussions of what you write
to TPTB.

Jean can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the best way to help her at
this point is to refrain from any mention whatsoever of "On Holy Ground"
when communicating with Sony or any of the other PTB. Like Nancy said, to
call any more attention to the situation would be like poking a beehive
with a stick.

And while they might be inclined right now to turn a blind eye toward the
rest of our numerous FK sites, fanfic, etc., if it's shoved in their faces
they may have no choice but to shut us down. It's not about FK or what they
may or may not plan to do with it. It's about protecting their more
"lucrative" properties. Let's not encourage them to make an example of us
for fans of other Sony shows.

Fanfic is huge on the net. If they wanted to stop all forms of fanfic, they
would quite literally have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to
prosecute average citizens who don't make a dime. It's the reason Napster's
not going after people unless they've taken downloading to an extreme.

Not to mention that in every fanfic I have read, there is always a disclaimer
that says the author doesn't own the characters, Sony does, and I think that
most judges would say that sending something by e-mail does not constitute
publishing. Will they now prosecute every school child who writes a story
about their favorite cartoon while they're bored at home or in class and
shares it with a friend on line?

Putting it on a web site is another story, but I don't think Sony would take
the time and effort to literally shut down every fan site on the Internet.
Without fan support, Sony has no merchandise to sell and no TV shows or movies
to get ratings from. They would be incredibly stupid, IMHO, to do this.
Granted, the stupidity of corporate executives who drice fancy cars and own
mansions hasn't yet ceased to amaze me, but it would not be in their best
interests.

Think of all the Star Trek fanfic sites, Babylon 5, X-Men, Highlander, etc.
that would have to be shut down. Not to mention internet search engines and
free web site providers will have to get in trouble for allowing links to
these sites in the first place.

Just a few thoughts.

Subject: Blitzing for the Knight: August

This is just a reminder to blitz those powers that be! :)
.............................................................
Hello Creatures of the Knight,

This entire month we are focusing on the two main powers, Tristar and
Sci-fi, PLUS TNT!

A lot of FK fans have wondered why we don't approach other networks about
possibly reviving the series. Well, we decided to include along with Sci-fi
and Tristar for this month a blitz to TNT to test the waters!!

E-mail: tnt@t.......
(and place in the subject line: "To The Attention Of The Vice-President of
Programming")

You also may call TNT's Viewer Comment and Question Line at (404) 885-4538,
however we ask that any phone calls be in addition to letters and e-mails.

For snail mail, send to:
Vice-President of Programming
TNT 1010 Techwood Drive, NW
Atlanta, GA 30318

Its going to be a triple dose of e-mails from each of you the fans that
would love to not only have FK back on Sci-fi's schedule, but want to make
sure everyone knows that we are want more FK with the original cast in new
episodes and or movies!! So, what do you say? Are you ready to sit down,
take that few minutes and send off three e-mails? It could make all the
difference in the world!

Remember, say a little or say a lot, but say it!! We can make more FK
happen!!!

For the "whole" month of August, we are asking everyone to blitz the
feedbacks!!! For the month, you can re-use the e-mails you did before, or
write new ones. They can be long, or as short as just saying, "Bring Back
Forever Knight."

Important info to add in your letters: Sunday July 16, at 9:00 pm, ET/8:00
pm CT, SciFi will be airing a monthly program focussing on sci-fi movies and
tv shows that have become "cult" favorites among fans. The program's called
"SCIography", During this current blitz, we could ask that an upcoming
"SCIography" ep feature FK! So far, they plan to do eps on "Battlestar
Galactica", "Quantum Leap" and "Sliders", so asking them if they plan to do
a "SCIography" ep about FK can't hurt.

Also, beginning this Monday, Sci-Fi will be airing "Sci-Fi World", which is
a 6 hour block of sci-fi programs with a different theme each day. It's also
possible to ask them if FK will be a part of the "Sci-Fi World" programming
block! So, be sure to include these new ideas in the summer blitzes!

ALSO REMEMBER!! Sci-fi will be changing its schedule around again in the
fall.... lets make sure that we get Forever Knight on!!!

Sci-Fi's E-mail: feedback@w.......

Sony/Tristar Mail Form: http://www.spe.sony.com/spe/help_feedback_index.html

When e-mailing TriStar,(especially) give as much personal info as you
can...rather than just an e-mail name. A bit more personal carries more
weight with TPTB.

There's also a button, I made, which you can post on your websites to spread
the word about the blitzes. Have it link to my "Save FK" page.

Happy Blitzing!!
Kristin
http://members.xoom.com/forever_nick/Forever_Knight

P.S. I'll be sending out reminders for the blitz once a week through out
August, just to make sure you don't forget! :)

I don't believe the disclaimers have any legal standing -- I know I wouldn't
rely on it to protect me in court. The basic fact is that we use copyrighted
characters without Sony's permission.

As for going to extremes to protect copyrights, one only has to point to the
fact that Disney sued a daycare provider for painting Mickey Mouse images on the
walls of her daycare center. They were perfectly within their right to do so,
although it is patently ridiculous.

They look at the big picture. Allow someone to use their intellectual property,
even one they're not exploiting, and that opens the door in the future to an
instance when they might lose tons of money. I agree, Sony probably wouldn't go
after every fan site, but they might go after fkfanfic.com. It's big and flashy,
and it would get a very big message across to the fans if it disappeared.

Let's see -- Paramount owns ST, Rysher owns Highlander. I don't know about the
others. I don't know what their attitude is towards tolerating fanfic sites. I
understand that whoever owns Buffy caused those fans a bunch of grief. It all
depends on how the various corporate legal departments decide to protect their
intellectual property rights. Fortunately most seem to agree that fan sites are
relatively harmless.

All they would have to do is to regularly search for material containing
keywords and then contact the appropriate hosts or ISPs and threaten
them with trouble if they don't remove the offending material or stop
supporting the illegal activity (by hosting a distribution list, for
example).

The disclaimers we put on our fiction don't change the reality of the
law, anymore than putting a car's hazard lights on flash makes it okay
to drive 100 on the freeway. To paraphrase Dr. McCoy in "The Search for
Spock," you can't get a permit to do a d**mned illegal thing.

Disney (successfully) went after a grandmother who put Disney characters
on birthday cakes. Someone else has already referred to the many Buffy
related sites that were erased when that show's owners decided to crack
down.

Even if he didn't owe a big favor, he might still have been 'compelled' to

Just a reminder that Conversion Day, August 24, is fast approaching! Yes, it's
the 1,921st anniversary of the destruction of Pompeii, and the conversion of
General Lucius to our own (sometimes) beloved Lucien Lacroix.

I think perhaps it's time for some Conversion Day fanfic. Get out your
keyboards, authors, and let's see what we can come up with to honor our favorite
Master Vampire. I'm going to!

You all do realize that the corporations are on the wipe out the fan sites
crusades.

This has happened and is being fought in the Buffy areas. X files was wiped
out practically.
Perahps we nned out own version of the Buffy fight, but with the FK fight if
they start to target us.
I hate to say it but the lady running it is quite well organized.

One of the reasons I feel strongly about protesting politely, instead of
just lying low, is because I think that fanfic sites may already be next on
Sony's hit list. After all, now that they've started, why would they stop
with Jean?

The disclaimers in the long run dont matter if they want to pursue it.
Almsot all of the X files sites were forcebly remvoed. IF the execs get
abug up their butt they dont give a rats butt. They are suits and suits are
stupid.
