If anyone knows of any others, I would really appreciate it if you could send

Subject: FanFic Questions-Canada and Vamp "Diets" & "Donors

Greetings!
The following info is needed for a fanfic story that is in progress, and in
coming from a devoted Vaq from in the Philadelphia, PA, USA area with hopes
that someone, anyone, especially [but not only] our FK fans in Canada,
particularly the Toronto area can help:

#1-- I know -- from the Internet that Toronto has a zoo-- how far, time-wise
is it from TO City where Nick and Vachon and The Raven are?

#2-- Also via the 'net -- I found that there is a VERY beautiful place,
north of TO -- Algonquin Provincial Park -- from info, seems like its 3
hours from TO -- [and I'm sure that Canada has many beautiful places, from
what I've seen on television! I'd love to visit Canada sometime! :) :) :)]
   a) do ya'll think our FK Vamps could fly that far, non-stop, and would it
be LESS that 3 hrs for them-- don't think there'd be much 'air' traffic
they'd have to deal with, and travel, by plane, etc, is faster than by car,
bus, or train, right? {And hopefully they'd NOT be chatting on their
cell-phones while flying! :) }
   b) would anyone have a problem if an author were to "move" a known
Canadian area a bit closer to TO in fic?
   c) are there any Provincial Parks CLOSER to TO city-- and isn't there
also an island near TO-- is that for public or private use?

#3-- for these provincial parks and the island-- are they for tourists,
campers, can anyone own/buy/live in a cabin in these areas, aside from the
park rangers?

#4-- are there any 'animal reserves' in close proximity to TO where
animals-- wolves, foxes, bobcats, lynxes, cougars, in addition to deer and
rabbits and other animals -- can basically run free but have park rangers
and vets 'look after them', and would any of these kinds of animals also be
in the provincial parks? Is the public permitted access to these 'animal
reserves'?

#5-- are any of these considered 'endangered' in Canada-- the wolf, cougar,
bobcat, & lynx?

#6-- am I correct in my thinking here-- in "Francesca" we learn the after a
vampire consumes the blood of a human, for about 2 hours he or she would be
able to do things that the 'blood donor' could, e.g. play the piano or
violin as regarding that particular ep's unwilling 'blood donor'-- and they
also can 'enjoy' in some way what the 'donor' has eaten and drank-- remember
Francesca and Frank feeding their victims VERY VERY well before killing them
-"fattening them for the kill" didn't Nat say?
   a) if the 'blood donor' had recently been drugged or medicated, or had
taken drugs or drank wine, beer, etc-- would FK vamps also have/experience
the effects of the medication, etc-- both good and bad effects/ (I believe
in VTM the vamps do get some kind of effects if the 'blood donor' is a drug
addict-- even to the point of a vamp becoming addicted to the blood of drug
addicts-- so I'm not off-the wall here in considering our FK vamps being
affected, am I?
   b) would a vamp, in particular, but not only a carouche, after drinking
animal blood have-- for 2 hours-- some of the traits of the animal 'donor'--
e.g. if the animal were a wolf or cougar or cat or dog-- would the vamp be
able to hear and see even better than the average vamp, have sharper hunting
and tracking skills due to the animals natural abilities? Wouldn't'd Screed
be able to hear better or do some things better because of his 'diet'?
Wouldn't'd Nick have some kind of side effects from the cows blood? --maybe
that's why he's a tad calmer than LC? :) I'm thinkining though that human
blood, or even VAMPIRE blood would make a vamp stronger or physically better
than if he or she drinks animal blood-- what d'ya think?
   c) And would not --if the 'diet' is continued over a period of time--
would the vamp's body eventually adopt some of the traits of the 'regular'
diet? And what affect would the particular 'first meal' have on a newborn
vamp-- in addition to he or she desiring /preferring-- but not restricted
to-- whatever species he or she first drank, either directly or indirectly--
by bottle, blood-donor bag?

#7-- how could other FK vampires tell if another vamp is a carouche-- unless
someone told or it was assumed by his or her habits, living arrangements,
etc, maybe by their super sensitive vamp sense of smell-- be able to smell
what the other vamp has been drinking-- "You are what you eat"?! :)-- after
all, FK vampies are not RESTRICTED to ONLY drinking the type of blood they
first consume, just that they have a preference-- Nick's first 'meal' was
human, a mortal woman, yet he is able to drink cow's blood, but it is not
very appealing to him; Screed's first 'meal' was a rat-- yet in the MBIAV
flashback, he apparently had NO problem draining a human woman!

I do remember Nick mentioning this to Francesca, but I took it to mean that
this ability only applied because of the method she had used to acquired the
blood, not because it was always that way.

Actually, Nick's first 'meal' was from LaCroix. It was after he woke and fed
from LaCroix' wrist that the woman was brought in for him. If you'll recall,
he wasn't starving when she was presented to him, especially not in the way
that Vachon had described first hunger back in Fever (?).

When Nick was explaining to Natalie what it was like to drink blood
[Francesca], it was my impression that he was referring to the blood that
Francesca had specially acquired from the musicians. That's what he had been
remembering. The suddenness in which they were killed left their blood embued
with stronger sensations that let the vampires feel what the mortal felt,
perhaps gave them the ability to become them for a short period (figuratively
speaking).

Other than what was mentioned in Francesca, I don't recall the show giving us
much detail on exactly what sensations or experiences the vampires got from
the blood they drank, or any after effects. Though in Bad Blood, Jack the
Ripper's blood make LaCroix sick --- he said he'd been poisoned. And in the
flashback in Fever, LaCroix commented that he could taste the plague in their
blood. (I don't remember exactly how he phrased it).

Hi All,
I am on digest and have been reading the list only sporatically
so if this has already been mentioned please accept my appologies....

SCI Fi has just redesigned their website and I was happy to notice that
they have kept the Forever Knight data file. I can't help but think this
is a good sign. If they had no plans what so ever to bring the show back
at some point they would not have gone thru the effort of keeping the
Forever Knight file in the new website.

I alsways thought that NIck was describing how things usually were, not only
what happenend at Francesca's. I don't remember him referring only to
Francesca in his description.

I recently got to see the Canadian version of "Last Act" and was surprised
at what they had left out! The love scene between Erica and Nick is extended
from the US version. In it, Erica tells Nick she saw what it was like to be
a Crusader, knew how it felt when he was nearly killed, and he read her
suicidal tendencies in her blood and asked her about it. Since I'd always
seen just the US version, I didn't know that was possible until the 3rd
season.

Truly odd...

yesterday, i was waiting at a stoplight when a loooong car drove by. i
engaged in my usual behavior in such situations (checking for fins), and was
astonished to see that it looked exactly like the Caddy (white convertible
roof included), except it was painted a curious color -- blue or purple, i
couldn't tell. the light changed. half a mile down the road i turned off
on, i spotted the Caddy again!!! my thought was this: 'nick must be in
disguise.... he can't pick colors for his car that are definite colors and
not mixtures!!! wonder what the resale of that would be in an FK
auction....' i seriously considered following the car to its destination,
but it turned off at a nearby church. my reaction?

perhaps when he became mortal, nick repainted his car to celebrate?!...

Thanks for the reminder. I had seen the Canadian version and forgotten all
about that exchange. They both seemed to have picked up some pretty clear
images of each other without knowing exactly what they had passed along.
Erica was surprised that Nick had picked up on her suicidal tendencies while
he was surprised that she had seen his Moorish imprisonment form the
Crusades. I always figured that had to be something that happened
vampire-to-vampire, but not all the time. They can't exactly be an open book
to each other, otherwise how is it that Nick didn't know important parts of
Janette's past -- parts that were very important to her. [Reference to AFWTD]

The zoo is located in the North-East corner of Toronto. If they are
driving from the Raven, they could probably reach it in about 40-45
minutes.

*I* would have a problem with it! It's very jarring to read about a
place that's in the wrong, er, place. <g> I still remember a fanfic

Ontario.

Algonquin is the largest in the area, but there are lots of
Provincial Parks closer to Toronto. It just depends on what you want
to do. Is it just for a picnic, or do you want to camp there
overnight?

Some provincial parks are set up for campers (you have to phone and
reserve a spot in the busy summer season, though); some are for day
use only. Algonquin is the only one off the top of my head, that is
large enough to have hotels or lodges within the park property.

The Toronto Islands actually consist of a chain of several islands.
Most of them are public parkland. They contain a farm, amusement
park and several Yacht clubs and marinas as well as the Toronto
island Airport. Algonquin Island and Ward's islands, however, do
have a few private homes on them.

There's the African Lion Safari about an hour West of Toronto and a
large cat Sanctuary eastof the city.

and would any of these kinds of animals also be

If a Torontonian wants to see coyotes, foxes, rabbits, Canada Geese,
racoons or even occasionally deer, s/he need go no farther than the
nearest ravine. <g> Sunnybrook Park has all of the above in
profusion and i know there are deer in the Rouge Valley in the east
end of Toronto. And we won't mention the Moose that Mayor Mel has
all over the city right now. <g>

> #5-- are any of these considered 'endangered' in Canada-- the wolf, cougar,

I may be wrong about this, but I don't think you can find cougar or
lynx in Eastern Canada and bobcats are very rare. Wolves can be
found anywhere north of the City.

Unless Nick knew enough not to talk about it to her until the memories had

To a Classic Car collector [like myself] a car in a show condition could go
anywhere from $30,000 to $45,000 depending on what the buyer would want to
spend. If it was Nick's caddy [which is not for sale] then it would be up to

various auctions....the sky's the limit...especially since the money goes to
charity.

 Speaking of spotting the Caddy...
We're having 'Hot August Nights' here in Reno, so there are a ton of
classic cars around. Everyone of the casinos is hosting a classic car
show and I've been to most of them, searching for our Caddy. I've seen
four that come close, but none were that interesting shade of green. The
closest one was a hot 1962 Caddilac(sp?) convertible that was a wicked
metallic turquoise (more blue than green).
Also... I went into a local casino to pick up my grandfather (I usually
have to drag him away from the blackjack table) and I saw a new slot
machine... 'I Dream of Jeannie' and I immediately thought of none other
than Don Schanke. I thought to myself 'Schanke would love to play that
one!'.

In 1962 GM had another color close to the caddy. It was more blue than
green. I owned a 62 Conv olds in 1965 that was called "Pacific Mist .'' I
have the original color charts for the GM cars, Olds and Caddy '62. So you
may have seen the a caddy there in "Pacific Mist."

I think TNT would be the best; it has a proven track record
carrying shows similar to Forever Knight: Lois and Clark,
Reasonable Doubts, Due South; Kung Fu; and it is a basic
cable channel; Sci-Fi Channel is a digital cable channel in
many places; thus, TNT reaches a lot more people.

Does anyone know where I can find a good map of Toronto and outlying areas
on-line? Also, does anyone know approximately how long it would take in
normal traffic to drive from the outskirts of the city to the police station
and the Raven? Thanks in advance.

I was just recently watching "Sons of Belial," and had this feeling of deja
vu when Nick passionately escorted a woman into one of the Raven's backrooms
for some intense action. Although on this occasion the woman turned out to
be another vampire, the first time I had seen him act out his nature was
with a mortal woman in "Feeding the Beast." In both cases he was stopped
from killing in that backroom by either Janette or LaCroix. I have been
trying to remember any other backroom at the Raven scenes with Nick. Are
there any others, and are they all with him being so dark? What is it about
that backroom that makes Nick feel comfortable to be a vampire again?

Have you tried http://www.yahoo or http://www.toronto.com? They have maps but I
don't know how much detail you need. WIth yahoo you don't have to type in a
specific address. Just type in Toronto and change the country to Canada. You
will get the whole city.

UPN was showing Deep Space Nine, don't know if they are showing re-runs or
not.

In the Cleveland area they are showing reruns of DS9, and lately they've
been showing the episodes with Nicole DeBoer as Dax.

we've seen that FK vampires rarely if
ever get sick from human diseases, and the only thing that made them sick
was
a drug created in the lab.

I've been watching "Ultraviolet" on tape and it brought to mind a question.
If, say 50 years down the line, our scientists keep playing around and
mutating new viruses that turn out to affect the vampire community, do you
think that the FK vampires would organized and fight back and how would they
go about it?
