I would as well. I've come to value constructive criticism even more than
glowing, positive comments >>

I can take constructive criticism. At the appropriate time. I send out
every story to between two and ten different beta-readers... but once
something is finished and posted to the web, I consider it done. It's too
late to go back and rewrite it. If someone doesn't like it, then they don't
need to read it. What I discussed in my original posting was more about how
rude and thoughtless some FK fans have become, rather than a plea for
glowing praise. The theme of this post began in response to the hateful
remarks posted to the UV bboard. I think Gwenn summed it all up
beautifully, when she posted a few days ago, that perhaps the outcome of all
this will be to remind us to be more courteous.

OK, so there wasn't *really* a fire. More like a postal "service"
(cough cough) that dropped a 10-ton weight on a box full of copies
of my FK novel, ON HOLY GROUND. (Wahhh!)

Having "ironed out" what we can salvage of the shipment, we're
selling the damaged goods for $3.50 ea. That's mostly packing
and postage, with a small amount still going to the designated
charities. So, anyone who might have found the $8 + $2 s&h
price prohibitive, but would still like a reading copy of the book,
please let me know.

Or just send your $3.50 in US funds to: Jean Graham, PO Box
23383, San Diego CA 92193-3383.

Please note that these _are_ *damaged reading copies* with quite
a few wrinkles and bends in them. Not pretty. But still readable. :-)

I think many of us realize FK won't return as a SERIES, but there's much else
to work for:

1) a tv movie
2) the return of the reruns to the Sci Fi Channel(!!!!!!!!!!! the main thing
I'm wanting right now!)
3) more novels
4) more soundtracks
5) more merchandise
6) release of existing episodes on DVD and video tape

(Sorry if I'm a bit late with my 2cents - been sick for a week)

There's one more thing we could work for, a full length Animation Movie.
Anime like Vampires are ageless and contracting for a voice instead of
a aging actor makes sense. I'm not talking 'Ren & Stimpy' here but more
along the lines of 'Heavy Metal' quality.

To be honest with you, I've never received ANY vehement feedback, even just
slightly vehement, and I've written several things that I was absolutely
positive were flamer territory (I mean heck, I was preparing myself with
asbestos armor), but nope, never got a single one. I think that you may be
assuming that we're getting more than we're getting. I've gotten maybe four
emails that were actually constructive criticism (which I thought was great, I
like discussing what I've written with people, so bring it on!) out of about a
grand total of 500 emails (give or take a dozen), others have just offhandedly
mentioned stuff that they'd like to see me write (that tends to be much more
common).

Again, I think you/we might be making a mountain out of a mole hill, just to
use a good cliché :) In general I've found the FK Fandom to be very
understanding, very supportive, and very friendly.

Subject: The Raven Awards!

Posted with McLisa's permission. Feel free to pass this on.

Hello Everyone!

This is a reminder that this years Raven Awards Forever Knight Writing
Competition, will be officially opening on the:

~ 1st of October ~

We had a great response last year to this judged competition and have
endeavored to give it a go again this year.

This competition is geared up, not only for seasoned writers, but for novice
and brand new writers as well. There are 4 categories you can enter into:

~Primus - This is open to anyone and everyone entering PG13 fiction. Any
faction, any skill level!

~Adultus - For adult fiction only. Strictly NC17! Writers and readers must
be over 17 to enter this category as it will contain sexually explicit
literature. Again, all factions catered for.

~Novus - This section is ONLY for writers who have never posted fiction
before. I am hoping to encourage new writers to have a go! Do not be afraid
to enter a story. You my remain anonymous, to all but the judges, if you
wish.

~Novus Adultus - As above, this category is for NEW writers only, but like
the Adultus category it is for fiction suitable for readers over 17.
This category is now open to first time ADULT writers regardless of whether
they have posted non-adult fiction before

If you would like to sign up, either to just read, or to take the plunge and
enter...go to my website and on to the Raven Awards. All the Rules of the
Game and any other information you may need, can be found there, including a
library of last years winners and entrants!

To enter your story, you must join the Raven Awards list. This is the judges
list, so if it ain't here they ain't gonna see it. :
www.egroups.com/community/ravenawards

Go on! Give it a go! :)

For any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks.

As of this posting, we have 5 scrunched copies still unspoken

I'll have to quote Susan Garrett on this. She told me once that letting
someone read your fiction is like standing naked before the world. She was
right. :-) Back when I was posting fiction, I would get the same comments
from the same people time after time--"I don't think Nick [Nat, Lacroix,
etc.] would do this."

Well, maybe the Nick you have in your mind wouldn't, but the Nick in *my*
head would, and that's the Nick I'm writing about. So I started either not
replying to the critic at all, or sending something like "Thank you for your
comments." Period. I'll have to admit that, thankfully, I've never gotten a
really vicious comment. I don't know what I'd do. Probably want to boil the
flamer in oil, or turn him/her over to Lacroix for lunch.

And speaking of Lacroix, what kind of fiction do you think he reads?

Hello everyone.

The Merc Mommy General just found her way out of the Ratpack Tunnels (gotta
know your own territory), just in time to get medieval and go to the huge
SCA gathering in Pennsylvania called Pennsic. I'm wondering if there are
any other FKers who will be going. If you are, let me know. Maybe we can
get together for a small meet.

To think, walking around in clothes and carrying on in a way (with lots of
ice, hot water, and sanitizing had wash) that most of our vamps have had
experience with in their long careers....

If you want to find me at Pennsic, I am Lady Collwen Glynmes (Matriarch of
House WyndeDragon), camping with the Barony of Concordia of the Snows (in
W03), hanging out on a regular basis with Renegesfolk and Myrkfalen
(spelling is hell at times), Clan Cambell, and Clan Hamilton, and will be
waterbearing battles on a regular basis.

I'm answering on-list because I've received several private e-mail asking if
I've heard when the next war will be. Why I'm getting asked, I dunno <shrug> but
I don't mind at all ;-)

McLisa said a while back she's about to move so no war will take place until she
has a chance to settle in.

As for your second question, it will probably depend on the rules for the war.
Traditionally, you play yourself but there are times made up characters have
played a minor role with permission.

For newbies, each character is controlled by that character's faction. WHen
there's more than one faction, *usually* the character will be controlled by the
traditional faction if they choose to play. But that's all hammered out before
the War begins.

For the REAL newbies, a War is like a giant roleplaying game where we play
*ourselves.* It focuses more on our interaction than that of the FK characters.
The Warmaster is the gaming master who sets the plots and guides the game. It is
suppose to be PURE ***FUN*** and is NOT like a traditional "serious" roleplaying
game. The posts are dropped to FKFIC-L with a special "war" setting so you can
chose whether or not you want to receive the posts - and there are a LOT of them
over the normal 2 weeks.

It is a great way to meet new fans from other factions and use your imagination.
Even if you don't want to "write" yourself in the war, you can give permission
for yourself to be used by others.

Hope that answers some questions ;-)
