You know you've been reading too much fanfic when you go to a wedding
and imagine the couple getting married is Nick and Nat. :)

Thanks again, Cousin Raven! I would have responded earlier, but I was out
of town for a few days.

>1. What *was* Myra really doing if she wasn't bowling?
I think she was sneaking in some shopping--remember Don's remark about
credit cards? Of course, Denise knew that or she'd have kept her mouth
shut, right?

>2. Do you think Schanke believes in psychics now?
No, despite her info about Myra, but she might have planted some seeds of
belief in psychic phemonmena that bore fruit later, during "Close Call".

>3. I know we've discussed the theory that Stonetree knows about Nick, or at
>least knows *something's up, but do you think Stonetree knew why Denise was
>flaking and that's why he told Nick?

>4. Do you think Denise would have figured out the images in her head or
>thought herself insane if Nick hadn't told her?
Perhaps Denise would have figured it out much later (as a psychic, she
should be a little more likely to believe in vampires, ghosts, etc.), but
she was too shocked to figure it out right away.

>5. If Denise hadn't gotten shot, do you think Nick would have continued to
>visit her?

Definitely, but he probably would have kept the relationship very low key
to avoid attracting attention--perhaps consulting with her from time to
time on cases. When I first saw this episode, I was sure that Denise was
going to become a recurring character, and was kind of ticked off that she
got killed.

Just a few thoughts here on how to bring back FK...since i'm new to the
list, if these ideas were already thought of...sorry :)
Since Sci-Fi seems to think that FK cna't be brought back due to the death
of the main characters, i think we all need to point out the fact to them
that it is not really true. Since it was never shown that LaCroix actually
staked Nick, Nat completely dying, and Janette being dead (actually). They
could re-start the main characters...or at least Nick, LaCroix, and Janette
moving on to another place. If anything, they could at least re-show the
last episode as part one and do a part two as it was just a dream sequence
from Nick or Nat or someone. There are ways around all of this, they just
don't want to try. What about trying to get major sponsorship from big
companies, and then promising to advertise for these companies that back us,
through whatever we use as advertisement. Maybe with the help of some large
organizations we could ruffle some feathers and actually get what we
want...Forever Knight back! I figure that if people can get sponsorship for
every day htings like marriages and cars and so on, then we could do this.

I was thinking the other day about some of the great times we've had at
cons, on-line, etc.

Syndicon in Baltimore was great, wasn't it? I'll never forget Nigel and
John reading Green Eggs and Ham. It was my favorite.

Now I'm writing non FK vampire stories, but I miss FK being part of my
regular routine.

The problem with this is that the actress who played Janette(I'm completely
blanking on her name) retired from acting.
And if they move just Nick and Lacroix to another place, Nick will need to
find another doctor(or similar) to help him search for a cure, or the whole
point of the show goes down the drain. Two of them in one decade seems to
be pushing believability, IMO.
(There's also the problem that while vampires don't age, actors do. I
haven't seen any of the FK actors in anything recently, so it might really
already be too late.)
It's also, I believe, up to Sony, not the Scifi channel.

Actually this isn't really such a problem. Nigel is the only
actor we need worry about the aging bit, and I doubt that his
appearance has changed enough to be a problem. As for Nick
and Nat, well Nat was already mortal and is supposed to age.
AND if what they were trying to do ACTUALLY succeeded then Nick
is mortal also. So all we need -- is to repeat part of LK and
then proceed to whereever they are residing at the present time
(be it Toronto or wherever) and have the date be current.
In that situation appearance changes in Nick and Nat due
to aging actors would be "normal".

(I think LC menacing a human Nick and Nat could make for
an interesting storyline.)

Has anyone collected any of our history? Is there a place where old con
reports are kept and viewable?

I have the program books from Odessy Trek '96 (Lisa Ryder), Toronto Trek '96
(Nigel Bennett, Katherine Long), Primedia '96 (Nigel Bennett, Lisa Ryder,
Katherine Long), and Visions '96 (Ben Bass).
I believe GWD and NB did Toronto Trek in either '94 or '95 as well. The
website, http://tcon.icomm.ca/ usually carries reports from past
conventions, but I don't know how far back they are archived.

In response to the first part of the e-mail,
I would like to say that once Ktk found out that Sci-fi was under the
misconception that the characters were all killed off, I myself sent a copy
of the show "Sci-fi vortex' which ran on thier own channel to clear up any
misconceptions. Ger/Nigel and James Parriott all appeared .
JP said this: "We didn't end it.We left the final frame with Lacroix with his
stake raised over Nick knight, but we never saw it come down".
and all three of them said that they would love to do more!1 its is As a
matter of fact how KtK got started.
Ger in reply to returning FK said "Yeah that would be great if we could get
this thing Kickstarted".
KtK does on a regular basis send packages of all your petions, your
e-mails,global worl chart reports, the works to not only Sci-fi, but Tristar,
along with the publishers of the pocketbooks, and everyone else we can think
of that might help us in the quest for more!!
this Halloween, another special project.
all your e-mails get attached to neon colored fangs, and sent to those Powers
that be!!

Subject: Nick Knight: Too 'sanitized' for TV?

Greetings, everyone...

On the Writer's Cube list that I'm on, we send in our stories to be
critiqued, and when I submitted "Dancing in the Shadows" to be reviewed and
critiqued before I sent it off to FKFic-L, I got a nice letter back from a
friend of mine who's also on the WC list.

While he praised my skill as a writer, he observed that the Nick in my story
wasn't all that much of a threat to Sara Louise or anyone else who crossed
his path. I quote what he wrote in his reply to me:

> We never
> really get the sense that Nick (one of media's most sanitized
> vampires, IMHO) is a monster, a ravening beast who is quite likely to
> chew his way through her neck until he gets to the other side.

That got me to thinking... do we as fanfic writers tend to 'sanitize' Nick a
bit too much, or when we write, do we take our lead from the writers on the
series who may have 'sanitized' Nick first? I'm asking the question because
I'm wondering how much can I 'de-sanitize' Nick in the next story that I'm
working on before he becomes less of the vampire that we've come to know and
love during the past 8 years or so?

Any and all thoughts on this question are deeply appreciated.

Hope that this will fuel some good debate as we move through midsummer.

(back to lurking and working on "A Gathering Of Shadows" and another short
story that demands to be written.. <weg>)

While I have not written any fanfic myself, I have read alot. I believe
every writer takes thier own view/slant on each FK character.

I don't read much fanfic, so I don't know if writers tend to 'sanitize'
Nick, but it sounds like your critic doesn't like Nick as he's presented
in the show, anyway, since he called him "one of media'a most sanitized
vampires" in the first place.

As far as being a monster or a beast, Nick seems to believe that about
himself, but do we? I don't. At least, not the way your critic seems to
think of it.

Nick is not someone who would "chew his way through" someone's "neck until
he gets to the other side," which is apparently what your critic wants. He *is*
someone who would pierce someone's neck with his fangs and drink out every
drop of her life.

At the same time, he is someone who will fight as hard as he can to keep from
doing that, and he is someone who will find a way to help people whenever
he can.

I think Nick simply isn't the sort of vampire your critic likes.

Thanks for the synopses, Raven, you're doing a fantastic job here!

> Questions:

Hmmm... I'm wondering if this was a cut out? Since it's one of my top faves,
I seemed to remember something about a guy... So I checked the tape, and in
the german version it goes like this: (might be slightly different from the
original)
When he calls Myra, he seems first to be surprised that she's at home, but tells
her, *of course* he knew she was there. Then they talk about her obviously
playing poker, and he asks her who has won, she or Angela? After listening to
the phone for another second his face drops: "ANGELO!?" Takes him awhile to
recover <g>
Well, the rest sounded familiar, he complains that he's out all night working
overtime, with her loving shopping so much, uh...sorry. Then something like:
"Well, listen, hun... Is there perhaps something you should tell me about?"
<end of call>

> 2. Do you think Schanke believes in psychics now?

Well, his attitude towards Denise seems *very* changed after that call, hehe <g>
When Nick and Denise wonder about him, doesn't he say something like:
He's a good cop, he can learn?

> 3. I know we've discussed the theory that Stonetree knows about Nick, or at
> least knows *something's up, but do you think Stonetree knew why Denise was
> flaking and that's why he told Nick?

He didn't know why, but was sure the reason was Nick, since he asks him directly
what he has done with Denise. Have to go with Billie Lee, that he somehow
suspected from the beginning that Nick had some special abilities, but could not
quite put his finger on it. I guess he feels it's something he wouldn't wanna
know, if he knew, so he deliberately doesn't think too much about it.

> 3. Do you think Denise would have figured out the images in her head or
> thought herself insane if Nick hadn't told her?

She would have wondered for awhile, but probably wouldn't see Nick again and
the images wouldn't come back. Chalk it up to... some temporary sickness?
if she stopped being so sure that it *can't* be real, the incertainty would
drive her crazy, just with curiosity. Look out, Nick!

> 5. If Denise hadn't gotten shot, do you think Nick would have continued to
> visit her?

Would have loved it! As a recurring character, with her knowing his secret -
ah, the possibilities, yum! And wish so badly he would take me on a flight
too!!! Better two. Or three, or each week <g>
Too bad Natalie doesn't seem to be interested in flying at all, sigh.
Don't care if it looks cheesy, I love him playing Superman in the first eps.
And isn't that what appeals to dark and light fans alike? No moral problems
with that, and helps me to understand better just how hard it must be for Nick
to fight his "condition", no matter how high the price.
But okay, even I realize that too much redoing Superman would ruin the drama
plot, the core of FK. Superman was fun, but FK is much deeper, just magical!
Sorry for drifting off topic, looks like I got distracted :-)

How do we 'sanitize' something when all we really have is Nick's word that
there's "a monster, a ravening beast" inside him? There's really very few
scenes of Nick, or any vamp, suddenly snapping and killing someone. And in
the few instances where Nick's angry, like in Undue Process, he's still
directing the Beast, making a very deliberate choice in who to kill. FK
vamps tend to be social (yes, even LC, and he admitted it in AMPH), and
anyone who's not in control of themselves in public is likely to get killed
themselves.

Killing is *not* the focus of the show. At least I don't think so. The focus
is Nick's struggle to deal with what he is. Inner conflict is very hard to
show on tv, and Ger does a wonderful job of it. But there has been very few
instances where we've seen Nick tempted to "chew his way through [someone's]
neck until he gets to the other side", at least in the present time. There's
Alyce in DK and, um, the killer in GVP and, um, someone want to help me out
here? (Note, I'm not counting the stripper in DBTLOTM because he wasn't
vamped out, or Nat in BMV, cuz he wouldn't have done it if LC hadn't told
him to.)

So getting back to fanfic, we either have to go with what evidence we have,
which isn't much, or do a lot of speculating. Is Nick tempted to killed
everyone in the precinct whenever he goes to work? That's up to the writer.

(And I hope this made sense.)
