Actually, I remember reading a wonderful story, I think it was entitled "Don't
Tease the Animals" (?) that had Nick stalking a suspect that turned into a
werewolf.  He starts teasing it and gets trounced -- very funny and well-done.
Wish I could remember the author!

Greetings FWC Members and Tidbits Subscribers

First -- some special announcements before moving on to the tidbits inside
this issue:

This is the last issue of Tidbits to go out to my general mailing list of
4200. Starting with the next issue, Tidbits will now be available only to FWC
members. Tidbits will continue to announce markets, contests, storm warnings,
conferences and other items of interest to writers. FWC members can also use
Tidbits to find online or offline critique groups and to toot their horns
about successes. (Occasionally, I might send out a Tidbits Special Edition to
the entire list if something comes up that needs wide exposure.)

In addition, FWC will not be holding any more online chats at this time. In a
nutshell, I am having to cease and desist with all free services I've been
offering. With 4200 subscribers the workload has become unwieldy. Only 200 of
those 4200 are actual FWC members, but 200 is a good size and I need to
devote my time to paying members. If 4000 of you decide to join, then we'll
be able to offer you even more than we have been.

As many of you know FWC has had a lot of problems with the website and
servers in the last few months. I am pleased to announce that a brand new
website will be up and functional in about two weeks. (The old one is still
there for now, too. www.fictionwriters.com.)

Membership in FWC continues to offer free consultation, free critiquing, a
hard-copy bimonthly newsletter with interviews with agents and editors,
discounts on FWC email courses, and all sorts of help on how to write better
and learn how to get published--but in two weeks the annual membership fee
will be raised slightly to help defray rising costs.

Those who join FWC now though, in the next two weeks, (or renew) can still
join or renew at the old fees: $64 for regular membership, $59 for full time
students or seniors (65+), $75 for outside the US.

GASLIGHT is back! Its been a long time...and we've missed you all. So we've
decided to return in 2001 with a bigger, better Gaslight: Tales of the
Unsane!  More fiction, more poetry, more incredible, fantastical images from
the darkest corners of the mind. Volume 1a will debut January 2001...and we
want you to be a part of it!  Our guidelines are simple: Just send us your
very darkest work. Fiction: Up to 10 typed pages; horror, dark
sci-fi/fantasy, mystery/suspense, the weird and bizarre, stuff that will make
people pull their feet up to the middle of the bed late at night. Poetry: Up
to 50 lines. Nonfiction: Essays on genre-related topics; travelogues of
famous sites of murder or other ghastly deeds. True stories about haunted or
cursed places. Artwork: Photography, line art...whatever you can stuff into
an envelope (don't send originals unless you insure them and provide adequate
return postage). Payments are token for the first issue**  The deadline for
the first issue is October 15, 2000.  But don't wait until the last minute...

STORYLINE
Storylines' first issue launch has now been confirmed as the month
ofOctober.The submission deadline for this is Sept 4th.
If you wish to submit short modern literary fiction 2500 - 4000 words on
anygenre or theme, please do so.  Articles, book reviews and interviews of up
to 1000 - 1500 words on any publishing/literary theme are also required.Apart
from the above parameters, no further guidelines are available. Payment will
be NUJ category D - £160 per 1000 words, payable on publication.
The magazine will be bi-monthly, full colour illustrated at a cover price of
£2.80.
