He probably thought that if he could beat Lacroix, despite not feeding
lately, that Lacroix would suddenly decide to let him go. Nick isn't very
good at learning from his mistakes, otherwise he wouldn't still be asking
for his freedom.

MMmm. I think the conversation that night was about the other
mortal women that have known Nick and not survived him. Which
is why he is so torn up about Alyce, wanting her but knowing that
his track record is he will kill her.

> 4. Which jade cup do you like better? I favor the one in "Nick Knight"

The first one looks more menacing. This one is too plain.

> 5. Why did they replace the first old guard that died with another old

Could be the museum was run like my office is. They figured if
the told the second guard to "work safer" he'd be OK. Besides, he
is just an employee. Not like a manager got killed or anything
important like that. Just replace him and your all right.

> 6. Where did they get the idea for that frilly cape that LaCroix was
> wearing and did the one who suggested it get slapped?
I liked that cape. And I like the upturned collar of Nick's jacket
in some of these early episodes. They look like some of the
stylized Dracula capes that have been worn down through the
years. It amuses me that these two vampires would wander
around looking like vampires in this subtle way.

In the lab where I work, we warm whole blood products by letting them set at
room temperature for 1/2 hour, or if we need them more quickly than that, we
(how shall I put this) place the bottles close to our hearts to let them
warm up. This prevents the cranberry sauce problem.

It's Chinese. Vietnamese is not so tonal, and the vowels are different. This
scene is shot in one of the Toronto Chinatowns. Somwhere near Dundas St, maybe?

I believe it's this flying scene that Ger describes himself as looking like a
flying guppy. <g> Whatever, it's very cheesy!

For people who don't have the Canadian version, this is the spot where Nick
critiques the suit of armor. He tells Alyce that "the tassets don't match the
rest of the armor -- the guy wouldn't be able to relieve himself" (or words to
that effect -- not an exact quote). Nick goes on to say that it only has to
happen once [for the wearer to be more careful]. <g> Despite the fact that when
Nick was mortal, knights were wearing chain mail, not plate armor, it's a rather
charming little scene.

> 1. Which caddy *really* has more trunk space?

Who cares? The Great Green One is a lovely set of wheels. And remember -- fins
are sexy! (I was lucky enough to see the Caddy at LCA2 -- it was a featured
prop -- and I am happy to say it's even more impressive in person. That car has
personality!)

> 2. Doesn't Nick portray the 'scruffy look' elegantly?

It's my understanding that he was told to sport that unshaven look to look more
tough and menacing, to offset that boyish face of his. (sigh) *Very nice*.

Nick acts first, then thinks (usually after he's had the snot beaten out of him
by his disapproving sire). That's our Nicky, all emotions and impulses! Ya gotta
love him.

> 4. Which jade cup do you like better? I favor the one in "Nick Knight"
> personally.

The DK one looked marginally more Mayan, so I vote for that one. Question:
hasn't Nick ever heard of Super Glue? He could have scooped up all the pieces
and spent the next year gluing his magic cup back together. He was an
archaeologist, after all, and should have been familiar with putting pots back
together. He could have had Alyce *and* the cup!

> 5. Why did they replace the first old guard that died with another old

Ah, the traditional Rent-A-Cop guard. Night watchmen used to be retired cops or
guards out to get a little money to supplement their pensions. Or to get away
from their wives. <g> DK taps into that movie stereotype.

> 6. Where did they get the idea for that frilly cape that LaCroix was

Nigel can wear anything and still look severely elegant, as long as you can get
past those 3rd season eyebrows. <g> What I want explanations for are the "air
filter" ruff on Nick in Sons of Belial, and the Sta-Puff Marshmallow Man wedding
outfit in Dead of Night.

Since we don't know much about the FK vampire's physiology, this could very well
be cheesy rationalizationed into not being a mistake about armor not being
around while Nick was mortal. There's elements in blood that vampires probably
can't digest (not so much elements as "polutants" such as alcohol, that vampires
mix with blood in the FK universe, and other things). If so, there's probably
some sort of need to relieve the body of those undigestable bits of waste.

In other words, I've always used this as a reason that FK vampires still have
need to ... relieve themselves on occasion.<g> Can you see LaCroix's amusement

Ah, well, I remember reading that Nick knew vietnamese from somewhere and I
know it was in that episode where he flashed back to Vietnam (can't remember

Yes, Canadian blood banks are all voluntary--the only 'payment' donors
receive is tea (or whatever) and some cookies--but we also have mobile
blood donation clinics, which are set up for a day in shopping malls, high
schools (lots of kids make their first donation at age 17 in high school),
community centres, etc. From there, it's not a far leap to a "bloodmobile".
In fact, I think the city of Red Deer just acquired one for mobile
donations.... However, the homeless population would doubtless be
considered high-risk, so I don't think anyone's likely to intentionally
solicit donations from them on the street when there are many better-suited
volunteers out there. BUT, she said, munching a nice big chunk of Havarti,
if someone who was homeless wanted to donate blood at a 'bloodmobile' which
was soliciting donations from, say, downtown dock workers or warehouse
workers, they would just need to produce a photo ID with an address, and
show up on the (in 1991) Red Cross' records as not having donated in the
last 2-3 months. They could then have a treat of juice and cookies
guilt-free for fulfilling a civic duty.

Doubtless there are some homeless Canadians who actually do donate safe
blood. In fact, in my city (Calgary), it's almost a certainty-- W. Canada
has a high proportion of blood donors (I'm told we often send blood back
East, where they still have shortages), and Calgary has a *very* tight
vacancy rate, which has resulted in lots of recent arrivals with good jobs
but no place to live. Hmm, this cheese is a lot better than I expected...

If you like scruffy, I guess. I too have heard that they thought Ger was too
"pretty" for a cop. Certainly the Canadian publicity for the first season
called him "ruggedly handsome." IMHO, handsome, yes -- very. Rugged, no.

First season Nick, my favorite, always reminded me of a Peanuts cartoon
which was common on t-shirts in my misspent youth during the Viet Nam war:
It showed Charlie Brown with his football and the caption was his plaintive
question about his football team, "How can we lose when we're so sincere?"
:)

They probably figured what happened to him wasn't necessarily his age.
Homicidal, blood-draining maniacs can happen to anybody. :)

I don't know, but Vampwrtr had a picture of LC in a later episode holding
another character in the classic hostage position and saying, "it's either
him or the cape." V, if you're out there, please know that we miss you
terribly.

Seriously, I think they figured that vampires have to dress as though
they're going to the opera in 19th c. Paris.

This was done with the help of one of the FK groups at Toronto Trek in I
think '95 or '96. They had costumed vampires helping to recruit donor among
the convention goers. I can't remember how much was donated, but I remember
them saying at the closing ceremonies that they were pleased with the
turnout.

Well thank you for your larceny, Billie-Lee. <g> Your idea has certainly
livened up the list.

I don't know about anyone else, but the way this is said has always sent chills
up my spine. ;-) I think this is one of my favorite quotes, so thanks a
million for including it in the breakdown, Cousin Raven!

I think it was the motorcycle. Really. ;-)

I'm torn between the two looks, actually. He pulls off that scruffy look
admirably well, but I tend to like clean shaven menfolks....

Well.... Nick hasn't always been known to be the smartest of vampires *ducks the
bricks flying in her direction*, but wasn't he trying to abstain from drinking
blood at that point? Of course, he didn't make it too far, but hey, give the
man a cookie for trying!

After seeing the pics on your site, and being able to compare, I think I like
the one featured here better. The other one is a little bit too rounded for my
tastes, I think.

Maybe they felt sorry for him? Or maybe better yet, it was a relative of the
first one who was bent on having revenge! *shakes head* umm, nope, that's not
gonna work. Well, let's just attribute it to a brain fart.

I most certainly hope he did. The cape probably would have looked better on
anyone else but him.... *sigh* The things Uncle must endure for his favorite
son....
